Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

This is a leak, guys. Evilore and Intelliheath confirmed for Smash!

This. I mean, why do people want Toad, or even Rosalina playable? I just don't get it. ><

I never understood the concept of exploding Pikmin either. But some people think that's awesome. So I imagine the same thoughts must coincide with Toad and Rosalina being candidates on a playable roster.

It wasn't quite sealed at the time. When Peach was revealed, Sakurai clarified that her moveset wasn't finalized and some of the moves we saw her using could be changed. Which implied that maybe Toad wouldn't be her side-B down the line, which implied that he could be playable.

I think at this point though his non-playability is a pretty sure thing, which is a personal relief to me. Mario newcomer should be Paper Mario! I'd even take Bowser Jr over Toad, he at least has a lot of moveset potential.

At the time I, too, believed this was a hint that Move!Toad would be changed. Perhaps merely reskinned so Peach would be holding Toadsworth (which would make sense given he's meant to be his personal servant) and the Toad we all know would join the fray. But yeah, it seems it is not to be.

Paper Mario and Bowser Jr. seem likely candidates to me ... and I'm sure I'll deservedly be considered crazy for even suggesting it, but something about the way Sakurai referred to Waluigi when he unveiled him as an AT back in the Dojo (almost lamenting he wasn't playable) makes me think that, at the very least, he's been considered. Which from a gameplay POV, would actually be pretty fun, should they go nuts with moves from the Mario spinoffs.

Don't see the relation, or the relevance to my post. How long have you been waiting to use that one, by the way?

Not at all. Just saying that some people like the thought of certain characters being playable based on the imagination of others making characters interesting or they just like the character. This can also include PM's implementation of exploding Pikmin, or Kirby's Horizontal Final Cutter. They do have their uses regardless of what anyone thinks.

I know that. However, I asking why do people want them there (in Smash 4) in the first place, since other than "Hey I have Rosalina in Smash Bros.!", they couldn't possibly add anything interesting to the gameplay that the other 5 characters already cover. Without making up a bunch of moves.

That has nothing to do with a Brawl Mod that changes the properties of a single characters move, that didn't bother me the way it does you. ><

As far as I'm concerned. Any character can work once effort is put into it. How a character animates, gameplay mechanics based on what they've done in respective games.

For example Rosalina could focus on Spinning attacks or even go far as to use a Luma for support. Or use Galaxy mechanics such as Launch Stars for recovery. Toad could be a lightweight but has a high run speed. Just depends on what Sakurai decides.

As it stands however I think Toad will stay as one of Peach's attacks and that will be that.

Smash Bros. has a history of taking characters that usually aren't suitable for fighting games and then in turn making great characters out of them. I wouldn't have thought Fox or Captain Falcon or Villager or Wii Fit Trainer would make exciting fighters but here we are. In some sense, I think Rosalina and Toad especially offer more source material to make into a fighting game character than either Villager or Wii Fit Trainer. (or Mii)

I really don't understand why anyone would want Rosalina in the game as her own character, sounds like a terrible idea. Rosalina (and Daisy) should definitely be a costume swap for Peach though.

Highly doubt we'll get costume swaps though :(

At least you'll get Pit/Dark Pit and Link/Dark Link

That's true. No doubt they could come up with a movelist loosey (and I used even that lightly) around their lore, but what's different about Fox, Falcon, Villager and Trainer is that at the time of their inclusion, no one from any of their games (or in the two former's case, it was the first Smash game) had been represented in Smash before.

Not the case with Toad and Rosalina. We are just asking for another 2 Mario characters. Characters that in concept and game presentation are clones. Even in their own game they are just clones. lol

We have Peach. Blond soft spoken princess is covered. We have Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Bowser... why would we need them two again? But yea, everyone can want who they want. I just don't see it...

Maybe as Alts. That would be acceptable. It was Daisy last game, now everyone wants Rosa.

Same for Rosalina (although my knowedge of her is very limited), I know she can jump and spin. lol

Honestly, someone enlighten me. Cause I'm not seeing it.

She's implied to be a star goddess. She can pretty much involve shooting star bits and throwing Lumas.

Prediction: It'll be just a pic of Link or Toon Link tomorrow, no reveals!

I under Mario 3D world not having any reveals Yoshi isnt in the game and nobody else from the series is prob playable.

But for Zelda tomorrow they can have Gannondorf, or Zelda so I expect someone tomorrow.

I don't think anyone posted this as several people would be fuming by now but here goes.

Lots of talk about how things are working on the new title. The biggest take from this is Sakurai has once again taken the responsibility of being the sole person balancing all the characters.

“In all previous Smash Bros. games, I’ve entered in all the data for fighter skills and hitboxes by myself, and it’s quite nearly that way with this game too. I’ve thought about leaving this work to others and I’ve actually tried it once or twice, but it hasn’t worked out. I don’t want to release an incomplete game, and I want everything to be as successful as possible, but it results in a massive amount of work for me. It’s a big problem, but there are reasons for doing it this way.”

Sakurai on how once he completes work on damage rates and hitboxes for a character, they’ll already fairly playable at that point…

“Characters’ in-game balance and features are something that I’m thinking about from the start while coming up with motions. If I left that to someone else midway, that’d make things more difficult. It’s faster and more accurate to just input the numbers myself than try to explain it in words to somebody.”

I have mixed feelings.

Sakurai pls...not again...not like this...especially after that bat and snake's horridly disjointed weight and hit boxes.

Someone should make a new thread on this. I'm pretty sure the thread would get raw reactions. Anyway, I guess he gave it a tries and it didn't work out for Sakurai. I guess he felt that other worker didn't do great job, so he had to take over the job.

Ehh, it doesn't say he won't be taking in what the team says and stuff, it's just that he will do it himself.
Apparently the snake model was supposed to be bigger and they ended up shrinking it a bit but forgot to change the hitboxes. Not sure if that's true but I've heard that repeated a lot.
That would explain it.
