I don't like Tony much either, but I don't think you're supposed to. He's fulfilling this season's crazy person quotient, but he's not being so crazy that he's taking up all the editing time. He hasn't quite reached Phillip-level annoying. Until then, he's fun to have around.

If I remember Phillipines correctly, once the Purple tribe was down to Malcolm/Denise/Russell Swan, the challenges were 3 vs 3 vs 3 (and then after that, they just put Malcolm and Denise on the remaining tribes). Going back even further, to Palau, they just let the decimation happen, until it was just Stephanie all by herself. They're not going to have an early merge just because one tribe is terrible (though they might switch things up a little if it's looking really bad).

Yeah, I find Tony entertaining as well, like he's living in his own little world. Love how he apparently has absolutely no problem telling lies to anyone, potential for some interesting situations down the road.
 
Damn, Brice is gone! He was hilarious. Weak, man. At least we still have #spyshack Tony. If he goes soon, I'm going to be bored.

I'm feeling like a switch will happen soon because that will really let the true colors of the contestants shine - and they will get to define themselves more. Is LJ more brains? Is Tasha more brawn? Is Woo more beauty? It'd be interesing to see who finds similarities in whom and which new alliances are forged.
 
I've loved the last few episodes! First time in what feels like years where I've been genuinely surprised at a vote - Garret getting the boot over J'Tia was a shock, and I also wasn't sure which way Jeremiah was going to sway at the last vote too. I am fairly disappointed to lose Brice so early though, he was fun and seemed to have his head in the game.

The editing has also been really solid so far. The only people who haven't had much airtime at this point are Alexis, Jefra and Woo, and even then it's not like they are at Carter levels of invisibility. Hopefully this continues for the rest of the season! Blood vs. Water was okay, but man did they telegraph everything that was going to happen weeks in advance. Remember when Tyson talked about blindsiding Aras every few episodes up until it happened? It was also incredibly obvious from the merge onwards that Tyson was going to win. None of that anymore, please.

Spencer is an early favourite of mine. I think he's done about as well as could be expected of him on the ridiculous 'Brains' tribe. I know he isn't in the best position at the moment, but you can't really fault him for it - who could have predicted that Kass would decide it was a good idea to jump from the bottom of one three person alliance (with Garret and Spencer) to the bottom of another three person alliance (with Tasha and J'Tia), in the process saving the crazy lady who dumped their food over the ONE person on the tribe who could keep them competitive in physical challenges. Then again, this is the same woman who told J'Tia to her face that she wanted to vote her out, so I guess it's wrong to have much faith in her thought-process. Either way, I'm confident Spencer will find a way out of this. I've been impressed with his ability to step back and be patient especially considering the people he's been stuck with. He's the only true 'brain' on that tribe tbh. I actually found it hilarious that Probst mentioned the tribe has an average IQ of 130 as if it was something impressive.

The cops are pretty cool too. I was a little disappointed that Sarah blindly accepted Tony's bullshit story about Cliff conspiring against her, but I guess it was a believable lie and she obviously trusts him because of their 'blue blood' cop bond. I think she'll wise up to the way he's playing fairly quickly though. As for Tony...he has grown on me a bit. I like that all of his best moments so far have come completely naturally, as opposed to someone like Phillip who does outrageous things just to get airtime. It's also clear that Tony is a big fan of the show. Did any of you notice his shoutout to Fairplay in the last episode? He said something along the lines of 'you can swear on your kids, on your wife, on your dead grandma - words mean nothing to me out here'. He won me over with that!

I'm also a fan of LJ as of the last episode. He's definitely the smartest person on his tribe, and is probably playing the best game of the season so far. He was put in a horrible position right off the bat when forced to alienate Morgan, yet managed to recover from that and quickly secure a majority alliance. He has both embraced and discarded the leadership role that he was given; he leads the tribe in challenges but knows to step back and allow others to speak when in camp. His confessionals have shown that he is very game-minded, and also that he really knows when to keep his mouth shut (he isn't calling the women out on doing fuck all around camp). Finding the idol based on his hunch that Morgan must have gotten a clue was pretty awesome as well.
 
Woo seems like a fun guy. I wonder why we haven't seen much of him yet.
 
Strange, I think Tony is hilarious. The guy is just playing the game the way it should, I don't get a sense he's an asshole or being malicious. Plus the kid is like a big child.

He's making up unnecessary, easily (un-)verifiable lies to someone who saw right through him from day 1. He's overplaying, and it will bite him the ass. But it'll be interesting to see him fall, or mellow the fuck out, LJ-style, or somehow get his kooky strategy to work for him.

Eh, that part was kind of messed up. But I still didn't see it as malicious. What he said is true "you can swear on whatever you want, it means nothing to me". I think the guy gets the game. But I agree with you, that it was foolish to lie to her - specifically. She's obviously loyal, he should read between the lines on that.

All she has to do is talk to someone else, and find out it was a lie. I'm guessing he's banking on her not being STUPID and openly bringing it up. Usually when people openly bring something up, they are seen as a liability anyways. I just found Tony to be funny, because he's always scheming and thinking steps ahead. His entire tribe is kind of dense, which is why I find it funny.
 
Tony might be able to get away with the way he's playing on Brawn, because everyone seems to be fairly laid back and not thinking about the game, but it isn't going to fly in the merge. Oh man, I hope he makes it there. He's going to crash and burn so magnificently.
 
He'd be a fun winner for sure, but there is precisely zero chance he's able to get to the end in a way that ensures a plurality of the votes. Assuming a final 3, who could he beat? J'Tia? Whatsherface from Solana? The other whatsherface from Solana?

It'd be Matt von Ertfelda all over again.



As long as it isn't another boring post-merge with LT and his girls coasting to the end, I'm fine. The first episodes have been very good.

The closest we've ever had to a winner that "played crazy" and could have legitimately won a jury vote would have been Jonny Fairplay in Pearl Islands.
Had he won that final immunity challenge and taken Lillian to the finals I believe he would have won that season.
 
Enh, I don't think Fairplay played that crazy a game. He definitely set out to be a villain, but I don't remember him ever being full on nuts. That dead grandma thing was probably worse than anything other villains have ever done, but it also made a lot of sense, in a diabolical kind of way.

Lillian, though..she played a crazy game, and she technically finished second (though she was helped by the fact the producers used one of the dumbest twists in the history of Survivor). I don't remember if her craziness fully blossomed before the finals, but if she'd had the sense to take Fairplay with her to the Final 2, that would've been an amazing Final TC.

Lillian just didn't have a clue how she came across. If you want to win the game, you need to own your crap or you won't get respect.
 
Nope, I'm thinking of the Outcast twist. It was like a proto-Redemption Island, but without any of the slightly good qualities.

I'd completely forgotten about the Jury Immunity challenge until you just mentioned it. That was another terrible idea. In retrospect, they're lucky that Pearl Islands had pre-douche Rupert, Jonny Fairplay's dead grandma and Sandra being awesome, because otherwise that season would've been a disaster.

The Outcasts twist was fucking terrible.

It wasn't fair at all. For starters, a select few contestants were essentially given a 'get-out-of-jail-free card', and the two people that were voted back into the game (Burton and Lil) were immediately given immunity without earning it. Plus...I know it was said that the outcasts were given similar food rations to the other players, but I don't believe they were living on a beach. They definitely weren't competing in the physically demanding challenges that the other contestants were. They were given a massive advantage over the players who actually deserved to be there. The fact that they both outlasted so many people after they re-entered the game must have been a slap in the face for them. Even Probst admitted the twist was a mistake post-game.

At the very least, all of the players should have known about it at the start of the game, so they could use that information in their voting decisions.
 
Good call not letting Cliff do the blindfolded thing. He'd get killed by low fences. Plus his reach is insane they don't have to hoist all the way up.
 
JaTia seemingly has no common sense. Placing a flag on a surface you can feel around and make out the size of should not be that hard especially being that it is surrounded by grass.

I mean have Spencer move the flag. J'Tia cracks under pressure every time. Not voting her out Day 1 because Garrett/David were having a dick-waving contest was catastrophic.
