Switch Pro Rumors Are Heating Up…

Yeah but that's the fun of it
I suppose if that's your goal then there's nothing more I can say. Personally, while I'm glad to give someone a hard time if I feel like they deserved it or are too arrogant for their own good, I would not stoop to making a rumor designed to trick children who wouldn't know better and being unconcerned with the scale of damage.

No, the rumors and speculation are not that serious, it's just banter, and the meltdowns are unintended consequences that happen to be funny.

I'd love to be excited except Nintendo seems to have perfected the art of underdelivering on hardware since the wii launched. So 10 years of disappointment. I'd love to be proven wrong.

You'd be surprised how many of the thread creators are the same ones having the meltdowns when the non-announcement happens.

Typing "Nintendo news" into Youtube brings up a wall of the most cringe disgusting channels ever created. Mostly a load of grown men who have decorated their studio/background to make it look like a small child's bedroom.

I think people get forgetting that Nintendo doesn't play by Sony and Microsoft's rules. Just because they chase power and release mid-gen refreshes doesn't mean Nintendo will. I don't think we'll see a switch pro at all. The oled model WAS the updated system. There won't be anything else until the next Nintendo system.
DS and 3DS both got mid-gen refreshes with more powerful hardware. So did Gameboy if you consider GBC a refresh.

So if anything, Nintendo are the ones with the strongest track record when it comes to refreshes.

If it says pro, or feels like a mid gen refresh, I aint buying

Might as well wait for the full on sucessor at this point

Let's be realistic, we can't have Switch Pro rumors and Switch 2 rumors at the same time, one of these aren't happening and I'm willing to wager that either Pro is Switch 2, or Pro was either scraped or doesn't exist.

Some of us have those consoles, but still love the games you only get on Nintendo consoles, but lament the fact that the low resolutions and frequent jaggies don't look so hot on the big screen.

I'm not asking for much, I don't even need better graphics. I just want better IQ.
Exactly this 👆

No, I'm thinking next year. Nintendo buys up their raw materials a year early and they have been buying up a huge amount for this fiscal year.
This came from their recent financials:

I build electronics for a living, the company I work at has done the same thing this year. I would guess that everyone is hording right now, because of the supply issues we've had, to secure future manufacturing.

I'm tired about this switch pro obsession... People who bought a switch don't care about graphics or resolution, because for that already exist sony and microsoft consoles. And even a switch pro won't be able of compete in powerful with a next gen console so what is the deal?
It does not have to compete. It just needs to be more capable than the current switch. Who said anything about competing with MS and Sony?

That definitely makes sense as many of the suppliers, across many industries, are saying that 2023 will be probably be no better than where we are currently sitting.

As Furukawa said, they now keep more raw materials inventories than before. They are securing the inventory as soon as possible (which makes a lot of sense witch the current global situation).

Also, there's a change in accounting that has a big impact in those numbers. From the 66B Yen, 36B are coming from this [accounting] change.

I think it'll look better on the shelves since the hoarding has already been going on for awhile now, but within manufacturing the battle is a bit further out in time and that's still a struggle with increased prices, some components has increased several 100% in price.

I mean, just because Nintendo releases their 10th gen system, doesn't mean the Switch will stop selling. Most consoles have a "cross gen" period, to ease the company as they transition, as they most likely won't be able to meet the demand of the Switch 2 for a good year or two.

In that tineframe, either by having a discount, or simply by being a diserable product with new games that almost certainly will be cross gen, the Switch will still be sought after, even if at a slower pace. We are past the system's peak, sales-wise, and while it still selling stupidly well, it doesn't make much sense to wait until the demand for the Switch is completely dried out to only then release their next system, as that will make the transitioning harder(Brand power is stronger now than it would be in that case)

Having said that, I still expect for the Switch 2 to launch at holiday 2023 at the earliest, with 2024 making more sense.
I don't think there's going to be a next gen console until 2024. The main clue right now is the DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's going to finish until fall 2023.

My guess is that the next gen console will launch with a new Mario Kart. Zelda BOTW 2 is going to be the Swan song of the Switch with a "remaster" port the following year at launch. I also imagine it could be announced next year after BOTW 2 releases.

A Switch PRO makes sense this year to hold on until Q1-Q2 2024 for the next gen. It could be that it's not portable. We have the portable-only, the hybrid and now the Pro could be home-only. However, don't expect more than a console that allows for 4K and higher (more stable) frame rate. The reason I think that is that there would be no reason for a the OLED to exist if there is a Pro with Oled too.

Switch Pro rumors literally started in September or October of 2017.

Is DLSS possible?
Nintendo patented their own version last year.

Pro model for a 6 year old console is dumb as fuck, not even worth the silicon or R&D at this point. Just make a Switch 2 and let it act as the cross-gen "Pro" model like Sony and MS are doing with PS5 and SX.

Metroid Prime Trilogy remastered in 4k is the dream.
Tobey Maguire Reaction GIF
PCMR will respond with
But you can do this already it's called a PC costing at least four times the switch.

As for switch pro, unless it's a new3DS XL type upgrade I don't think a pro will happen.

II think the desire for a Switch pro is less about competing with SX/PS5 and more about wanting to play stuff like BotW 2 at more than 900p and 30fps with drops
That's definitely it for me. Xenoblade series at dynamic 720p 30 FPS is just criminal. I really don't care if it competes directly with PS5, there are plenty of games that could greatly benefit from even just having last-gen performance e.g. mid-tier games or last-gen ports.

Where are the rumors? All I see is "is it possible...". And it might be, but it also might definitely not be.

Edit: Ok, read more of the thread, there might be something there? But we've thought that many times before.

A Switch on the level of the base PS4 could at least in theory get PS5/XSX ports, the current Switch is too hopelessly underpowered at this point.

Although I don't personally buy those games for Switch, I buy Nintendo games and indies that work well on a handheld. But even with Nintendo's own games the Switch is showing its age big time, a lot of games run at awfully low resolutions and framerates.

I don't actually want a Pro though, I want a Switch 2.

no matter what rumour, we know for certain Nintendo will release the next switch alongside a new game to show off its best features.

Prime Remastered / Prime 4
BOTW2
Bayonetta 3

what else?

Couldn't they have just increased production of current models + rising costs?
Anything's possible, but also that's a pretty huge increase over the year the Lite was introduced, double the costs for current models that are already plenty available.

Was it "fun" when hypetrains like this ended up over-glorifying an overpriced emulators-n-ROMs package like Super Mario 3D All-Stars? Or, you know, the OLED?
...of course? It's fun to speculate and imagine the far-fetched possibilities of what gaming companies could do, regardless of what they actually end up doing. Nintendo being both the most and least predictable makes watching them extra entertaining.

Anyone who is going to pitch a fit over their predictions not coming true (especially when it comes to Nintendo) deserves a good meltdown, and watching those is at least as entertaining as the big show itself.

Sure, but the value of the yen has fallen pretty sharply against the dollar in the past few months (as I have good reason to know >=/). That could account for some of the bump.

Would be just like Nintendo to release an OLED lite, so unnecessary. But classic Nintendo. Hope it's something good, getting long in the tooth now for sure.
