Take-Two talks about the future of Battleborn

You know, every time i see this, i can't help but wonder, what's the context of the character who says "All units be advised, feminism is awesome", like, is that a random taunt? Is it a mission dialog that relates to the plot? Does a mission in the game involves female liberation?

Because im all up for feminism, but it's such a strange thing to have your character randomly shout during a match, specially in a game with a very healthy selection of female characters already.

Probably because it's a mish mash or weird busy styles and there's nothing that looks awesome?

But it does look awesome? It's the Borderlands art style. That's all I see. I don't see anything different.

Gearbox is praised by a lot of feminist sites for it's diverse cast. The Mary Sue loves everything Gearbox. As for the quote Oscar Mike is a dudebro who shouts a lot of things that come off as very dudebro-ish but sincere.

Killing a female character multiple times is what triggers him saying that apparently.

Does the new character count as one? Water bender girl or w/e.

If you enjoyed The Legend of Korra then you'd deff like her.

I feel like i've never seen a gif prove the point of the post it's responding to compared to your gif. The art style of this game is just so offputting to me. Possibly because the characters are a bit over designed.

Oh my lord...that can't be true.

What if I told you that the borderlands art style is equally as ugly but there's a sense of cohesion there that makes it not so bad?

He says that every time he kills a bunch of female characters because he believes that's equal rights.

microtransactions are gonna let you remove all this garbage from the screen so you can use their awful FOV unhindered

I think Borderlands looks awful, but it's 1 type of awful

Battleborn looks awful, and it's 10 different types of awful.

Something like Heroes of the Storm has characters from 20 years of video games and they brought them into an art style that looks cohesive

You see, the voice work sounds sincere, but the placement in the game doesn't sounds sincere, comes off more as "look at us, give us a cookie for saying feminism!"

Compare to the integration of LGBT characters in borderlands 2, like finding out Tiny Tina had two moms, they don't come waving it at your face and wanting praise for it, you find out as you uncover the plot of the game through a plot mission's audio logs that state Handsome Jack was holding a [female] scientist's wife hostage and this woman turned out to be Tina's mom, which serves to give context to the experiments Jack was conducting, Tina's back story and general lore, it was pretty cool, because the fact that she was a lesbian was integrated in such a way that felt sincere and mundane and about as realistically tasteful as BL could get.

I'm not seeing it. Maybe another big sale, or a GOTY version with all the DLC included. Can someone help me out here?
They're going to make it f2p like Evolve and are currently adding in the missing monetization elements like microtransactions to make that work.

Mind, much of the game is already that way so I suspect this was a fallback plan for a while.

They will first sell out the channel inventory and iterate on the game until it is in tip top shape before doing so however.

Not that anyone would bother to do even 1 second of research to find out, but that is and always has been a bullshit screenshot because someone took the absolute craziest moment in the entire game (in beta before they massively toned down effects) and the effects on screen last for less than 1 second.

If I took a screencap of a gameover screen that was completely black with nothing on screen and said that's what the game always looked like it would be called out as misrepresentative just like that BS screenshot is.

Here's what the game actually looks like when shit's going down:

But posting that would go against the narrative that people need to lie about to convince themselves that it's a bad game.

F2P makes sense. I haven't played Battleborn, but everything I've seen of it just looks completely uninteresting.

As an aside: Take-Two is an interesting company, because out of all the major publishers, they seem like the only ones who try to give games they publish a fair chance with regards to dev time/budget etc. I almost wonder if stuff like the Rockstar games has them take a very hands-off approach in hopes they might have something truly great pop out of the game dev oven. Examples I'd include such as Spec Ops: The Line, Mafia 2, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Bioshock Infinite.

Not all of these games are great mind you, but I just feel like in the hands of any other publisher, the amount of development troubles these games had would've resulted in either sweeping development focus shifts or just straight-up cancellation.

I'm not exactly the best critic when it comes to this, but whatever art treatment Gearbox does to characters in their engine does not look very good. I'm sure that design is alright, but the actual 3D model looks...bad.

I don't know what it is about this game, I've never even played it.

But anytime I see anything about it, it makes me want to gag.

She's far and away the most appealing character to me design-wise, and man did they hit her with the ugly stick. There's just so many miles between the art direction of Overwatch and Battleborn, and that's what makes the latter so unappealing to me. The entire reason why I decided to even give Overwatch a try was because I fell in love with the characters via fan art.

That's true, they seem to be willing to invest a lot in projects that other publishers would shy a way from.

It helps that they also have sales juggernauts like NBA 2K and GTA to allow them to make these big bets, but still, props to them and to Gearbox for trying out a new IP instead of going straight to Borderlands 3. Personally I find the gunplay, art style, humor and gameplay loop of this game extremely off-putting but at least they tried.

They could have been swimming in mounds of cash if they would have focused all of their efforts on Borderlands 3. What a waste

Borderlands 3 will flop just as hard, people hate Gearbox games and take joy in their failures.

Must suck to be a fan of their games but it is what it is.

Battleborn is the first game of theirs that I've enjoyed and I have no idea how the company is still around with the amount of hatred and vitriol constantly thrown their way.

You misunderstand Gaf for all game players. Borderlands 2 sold like 15m copies.

Gearbox is terrible though.

Is that real Gearbox/2K marketing for Battleborn? God, I never ever use the word "tryhard" but that's fuckin' tryhard.
Yeah... They really wanted people to think the game is badass and it just fell flat on its face.

The art direction and character design in this game is just no good. It's a mess.

I know what it looks like when shits going down(I own it) I just think its a funny screenshot.

btw the UI is not what makes it a bad game

and the art is inconsistent and pretty atrocious to look at

Got it in the humble bundle and it is fun as hell so im happy they're not giving up on it. This game scratching that itch I had when i used to play ratchet & clank full frontal assault.
