Take-Two talks about the future of Battleborn

Borderlands 3 will flop just as hard, people hate Gearbox games and take joy in their failures.

Must suck to be a fan of their games but it is what it is.

Battleborn is the first game of theirs that I've enjoyed and I have no idea how the company is still around with the amount of hatred and vitriol constantly thrown their way.

Everyone will buy Borderlands 3. It's not bombing.

Hmm, why does that seem so famil-

Oh, right.
Hahahahaha that's funny and I love borderlands it's my favorite series ever. To bad they had to make this and as their number one fan on borderlands I should be their target Audence but this game does not look appealing at all

Make no mistake, Borderlands 3 will be big. People's hate for Gearbox won't make a Borderlands 3 sell bad. Battleborn and Aliens: Colonial Marines won't poison the Borderlands 3 well.

That said, if Battleborn had come out months after or months before Overwatch did, it probably wouldn't be quite so hated.

They're going to make it f2p like Evolve and are currently adding in the missing monetization elements like microtransactions to make that work.

Mind, much of the game is already that way so I suspect this was a fallback plan for a while.

They will first sell out the channel inventory and iterate on the game until it is in tip top shape before doing so however.
I see, thanks.

This begs the question, did this game fail because it was $60 or did it fail because it was fundamentally unappealing? I suppose we'll find out.

Why does everyone think that Battleborn is bad for all the reasons Borderlands is bad yet they have no issue with Borderlands?

How can people say they hate a game for being a certain way, and then have no issue with the game that they say it's bad for being similar to?

Is it also weird to anybody else that they still charge money to buy the console version of Evolve?

I imagine getting a F2P game set up in a closed marketplace must be a lot more difficult than on PC at the moment.

Also, the F2P-shift came as a surprise to most people, so I imagine the PC is a good test-case scenario to see if F2P is even viable for these games to try and make sure the monetization and royalties set-up (for consoles) is worth the effort.

Because one is a free roaming loot based shooter/RPG and the other is an arena shooter with MOBA elements.

Them playing the same is not a good thing.

Borderlands 3 will sell great.

I just wonder if it will sell great enough for Gearbox to be afforded the same leash they had to put out the high-profile bombs they did after Borderlands 2 again.

You're being extremely disingenuous.

Nobody gave a shit about Battleborn at any point in time. Borderlands was a smash hit. People who buy 2-3 games a year know what Borderlands is and will be interested in buying it.

I dislike Borderlands but denying it is popular and will sell would be facetious.

I would put money down on Borderlands 3 being a pseudo-MMO ala Destiny or the Division because they are taking their sweet time with their biggest franchise, so BL3 might be able to hold up the company for a while.

I'm not one for letting some art stop me from playing a game but, when 20+ characters weren't appealing from the jump and after playing the beta I said no thanks. Overwatch had me from the first trailer.

The real question is: which audience?

People that have actually played the game.

I know people think they saw everything there is to see during Beta, but just toning down the particle effects and getting the Stats properly balanced for launch made a huge difference in the moment to moment gameplay.

I agree that playing the Beta gave you a taste of the game, but the retail release is a whole different game than Beta was.

Issues with marketing and art design aside, I fucking hated how long it took to unlock characters in this. I hate "competitive" focused games that lock you to gimped rosters for hours and hours of play. The game wasn't that deep, it should have just let me pick the role/character I wanted off the bat.

Because they are different games.

How is this a foreign concept to you? What works with one thing may not work if you extrapolate its elements while missing its soul.

Those elements are not extrapolated from borderlands because they're not in the game.

Battleborn is nothing like Borderlands as much as people want to simultaneously compare it and not compare it at the same time.

Honestly, ive seen people shit on it for being too much like Borderlands while hardcore Borderlands fans who should know that franchise better than anyone else, shit on it for being too different from Borderlands.

It just seems like you're salty a game you liked failed.

So many people shit on this game it's amazing. I have not played it so I can't say. I played the overwatch beta, it was good but I did not buy it. I would download this if it is F2P tho and give it a shot!

A waifu needs to actually look good/cute

There's a bit of truth to this statement actually.
Battleborn over stylized characters make them look weird or unhuman like, so it's really hard to feel any kind of connection or empaty with them.

The rigging and animations are a bit stiff which it even increases the "weirdness" feeling.

Im sure it's a great game but the art direction really doesnt help to feel connected to the heroes (Which are a big part of the game appeal).
I really dont want to derail the thread but Overwatch rigging and animation is some of the best i've seen on games.

That's the funny thing about Battleborn; people like to compare it to Overwatch and in all honesty, the two games aren't alike at all. Battleborn is a fucking MOBA. Overwatch is an Arena shooter with a lot of similarities to Team Fortress. I think everyone would agree that Overwatch is similar to TF2.... but would you compare Battleborn to TF2? No. So why the hell would you compare Battleborn 1:1 with Overwatch?

In all honesty, the only problem with Battleborn is it's price... it should've been F2P from the start and it would've done much better. When I last played it, I was in a Smite-phase and it was a good alternative to that. The gameplay is decent, it's fun, characters are interesting etc etc.. No fucking way I was going to pay $60 for it at launch and even when the price dropped; I can play Smite for free and League of Legends for free... why not follow the model of similar games if you are going to make a similar game?

I see, thanks.

Hears how I see it. This game just looks unappealing. But if it goes free to play people will try it becuase why not it's free. Then if the people who play it right now and say it's good then it will get a lot more players. All try it at least hha

Ugly ass game is ugly. It's going to struggle with FTP as well, and their adoption of a more complete micro-transaction model will be a short term return effort.

"Lol you lose get gud".

You don't want an actual discussion dude. You're not even trying to understand people you're just mad that they don't like Battleborn.

No, I explained how people use whatever justification they can to throw shade at the game which is apparent when people go and blame it for being too much like one game while other people blame it for being too little like that game.

Why do you personally hate the game?

I don't hate the game.

I think it's a bad game.

You can not like something and not hate it. I'm not going to bother explaining why to you because you wouldn't care regardless.

No, you didn't, you didn't address the point of what I was saying, at all. You completely sidestepped it to continue making your non-extant point to nobody but yourself.

I must have missed you point because it's non-existent, if it's such a simple point then re-iterate it.

What are you trying to say then other than "This game sucks"?
