Team Fortress 2 - Bidwell's Big Plan [Microtransactions]

This will be great fun on my xbox 360.

Gee . . . now I only need 50 more underwater kills to get Krazy Ivan.
I am sure you are wishing you worked on that last night instead of the assists one.

Generic Recipe to all Polycount weapons:

<Unlockable Class Weapon> + Reclaimed Metal = <Polycount Item>

IE:
Cloak and Dagger + Reclaimed Metal = New Spy Knife

Explain this difference and why the two other games arent competitive, i'd like to know why so many people are doing it wrong.

Honestly, it applies a lot more to MW2 than TF2. If I kill someone in MW2 a lot of the time it was one of the retarded things in the game, it doesn't mean I'm better than him at all.
TF2 is much more team/objective focused obviously, but if I play the game to get a great score (what I would describe as a competitive manner) it becomes either dull or class dependant (I've found the unlocks to be balanced ok compared to MW2, no idea if more hardcore players would agree). I prefer to just do what I want, have fun and get an ok score instead.
I'd call them both public games (TF2 being a better one for me) because they are fun to hop into and mess around shooting dudes. I wouldn't want to play either game my team vs your team on a private server. Someone mentioned TF2 does work in this setting, but it isn't the same game you normally play because of a lot of restrictions, I guess it's like some pro mode.

Really it comes down to definition and me being picky. I don't think every game where you do something against other people should be called competitive; you wouldn't do it (unless you were an idiot) for money.

Reclaimed Metal isn't that hard. It's just three scrap metals. If it was Refined Metal that would be different.
You're right, for some reason I thought reclaimed was the highest. Not so bad, especially since my backpack is full of stuff. And the spy's knife you should still be able to make through Melee Token + Spy Token + Scrap Metal, since it's his first.

Ah, I guess it comes down to differences in definition then. Where I'd call any game that isn't played with a specific competitive (or pro) rule set in mind a public game (so standard TF2 server or CS servers or whatnot). So that anything able to be played competitively can also be played in a pub.

In other words most everything you play is a pub game until you take the time to develop specific comp constraints.

Look, people have been asking for trading for ages. The only way to implement trading and not have an e-bay black market is to offer the option to buy from Valve.

No no, I'm actually for the death of Team Fortress 2. I want my Unreal Tourny friends back. They all migrated to TF2. The lack of a triple rocket launcher, white boy hops and no good mid range weapon just kill the experience for me.

Also the community is, for the most part, completely obnoxious in-game. It's like a coffee shop you wouldn't mind going to but it's not worth wading through the hipsters that live there. Especially since there's better coffee down the street.

Sets give you an additional bonus.

This update is fucking awesome. Will be playing tf2 all weekend now :lol
Totally just realized that since they count the hat as part of the set that hats are going to have an indirect impact on gameplay now. Oh nooooooo

Not a big fan of microtransactions, but you know what? If anyone deserves to use them it's Valve. After all of the free content they've given me over the years I can't bitch and moan about this new twist.

Off to buy some shit for TF2. :)

BTW, what's the GAF server? I usually play with the BRBUninstalling guys, but would love to have another community to hang with as well.

This is Karate Kid mother fucker, you're gonna have to earn it.

I'm looking for hats that have managed to elude my grasp - which is in fact all of them besides that Master's Yellow Belt. Namely though, the Soldier's Stash.

Oh, I must have missed where you asked if anyone wanted to trade for the belt. You made it sound as if you were giving it away.

Basically, although the best games generally don't need any constraints to make them work.

I offer my VINTAGE Bald Scout Hat.

Hell I offer it to anyone with any hat that isn't a bald one.

Don't die.

It took me a while. I haven't played tf2 in a few months, I usually play my best when I haven't played in ages. Had a 9 kill streak then died, then rejoined, had a 8 kill streak both as scout (I love scout) then the map changed. Didn't realise it was dying causing it for a while.

the obvious problem is stop being so good.

I'm convinced that people get mad about this stuff because they're such whores that they'll feel compelled to spend money against their will.

Anyway, store is down for me. I played the hell out of the beta and only came back to the game a month ago so this is an awesome way to catch up to other players with my favourite classes instead of getting drops I don't want. I've got a bunch of Heavy, Sniper and Scout things but I'm still waiting on an Ubersaw and Axtinguisher. Good stuff, Valve.

Welp, I guess we know where Valve Dollars or whatever are heading.

Microtransactions up the ass, paying $5 for a fake currency in a store where everything costs $4 or less.

I'm fine with what TF2 is doing. I'm not fine with Valve's fake currency. Is there an option to directly use my CCard and never ever touch the fake money?

Q: Can I put whatever amount I want into my wallet?
A: Yes. We won't force you to buy “bundles” of currency. You can put the exact amount you need to buy the specific items you're interested in. However, each time you fund your wallet, the minimum amount of funds that you can put in your Steam Wallet is $5 / £4 / 5€ to keep transactions and payment service provider fees to a minimum.

just buy everything. you know you want to. and it's not fake money. it's using real world currency

HA, looks like that Robin Walker email saying "polycount items won't be craftable" was a fake after all. I'm glad I have been keeping duplicates of virtually every single item in the game for like 2 months. :lol

As for the microtransactions, I'm not a fan. I'd be perfectly fine with it as long as there was a way to craft/earn the items eventually, but already there are some items that you can never get (due to events/being lucky), some items that you had to pay for, and can now never get (l4d2 preorder, worms preorder, sam and max preorder). There is one item that you need a Mac or Mac friend to get. THOSE have all been cosmetic (though the golden wrench death effect is presumably really cool), but given that people probably didn't expect Valve to start selling hats, maybe people expecting them to not offer any non-cosmetic effect for paid-only items are also in for an unpleasant surprise eventually.

I hope not, though. Paid-only items being cosmetic only is acceptable though meh. Paid-only items having game effects means heyo, you're pretty much into Gunbound/Battlefield Heroes territory, as far as I can tell.

good thing it's optional ;3

they really should remove set bonuses for hats tho imo
I can't really read it all now -- are set bonuses for paid-only hats, or any class-hat in general? I have hats for MOST classes so that wouldn't be too bad for me. But still, adding gameplay attributes to hats == something people didn't expect, and hoped wouldn't happen, right? :/

Microsoft points use real world money too, y'know. They just call them something else after the transaction.

And while their reasoning is sound, it still seems a bit silly.

I already have two hats that I can probably trade for anything I currently want, so no need to give Valve money for hats yet.

Yet...

yes, you require the hat to complete the set and get the bonuses

Whoa... So, comparing the new items stats and the set bonuses... Valve actually did a crappy job at making interesting set bonuses (they're actually pretty bad i.e. sniper not able to get headshotted, but then not able to make headshots himself)... Or maybe that was their idea all along... Ha!

what the fuck valve let us use paintcan on hatless

red haired sniper do it

would probably make hatless not suck

Jesus, the prices in the store are horrible. $5 for a lot of items, with some "normal" hats running as high as $17.49. Buy a pack of Polycount items for $20, or save on the bundle and pay "only" $50!

Even the customization gear like paint and the supply crate keys are $2.50 apiece.

I totally need someone to remind me that you don't have to pay for these, and that this will go wrong in no way for the future.

By the way, there's an exclusive hat for buying your first purchase in the store.
