Team Fortress 2 Sniper Update Info, Pyro Megaton

8 hours and nothing unlocked =(

Except for axtinguisher which i unlocked by achieving mileston 3 for pyro.

I already have all the medic stuff too and nothing for the rest of the classes.

I had 8 of the unlocks (all 3 medic/pyro, 2 heavy, 0 scout) before this update. Now I have 14. I still don't have the KGB for the heavy, but I have the bow and jarate, the ambassador, and all 3 scout unlocks. I know the system is totally random, but I wonder if Valve doesn't want to give out stuff based on how infrequently you play classes, because I never play scout, and I got all 3 of his unlocks pretty fast.

Before Update:
3 Medic
0 Scout
0 Pyro
0 Heavy

Now (5 hours of play):
3 Medic
0 Scout
0 Pyro
1 Heavy
0 Spy
0 Sniper

Out of all those classes, I play Medic and Spy the most followed distantly by Heavy. So no, don't think that's the case =/

In the achievement_idle server I'm in now, a guy has 12 nataschas. I've only got up to 4 of something (for three different weapons)...

*edit* He just got a 13th one.

achievement servers? lol weaksauce.

i have 5 unlocks over 4 hours of playing yesterday. maybe im just lucky.

whats next? aimbots cuz aiming is teh hard? :lol

Took me 10 hours to get my first unlock.

2 x Flare guns
2 x Ubersaws
2 x Kritzkrieg

1 x Ambassador (pretty meh weapon)
1 x new watch (the motion sensitive one)

many hours of playing... a bit annoying getting old weapons.. whats the point?

Yeah, because aiming is a completely random over 9000 sided dice roll.

Results so far (only added no unlocks recently, so that's artificially low)

The problem is you feel like your actions are having no effect on what you earn.

Because they don't. That's why it is so great. You don't have to play a certain way -- all you have to do is play.

I can't wait to get that, but the Dead Ringer has some funny moments too. My funniest was probably getting chased by a demoman, pulling the watch out when he bonked me with a bottle, then he TAUNTED while I got behind for the backstab.
...

Was it on the last stage of Gold Rush...?

All you have to do is play, and enjoy your 13 nataschas in a row. :P Would you like 3 spare huntsman?

Oh--I'm not nerd raging, just saying equating manual aim with the omnipotent weapons handout scheme isn't really fair.

I'm just ready for this week to happen. The TF2 blog should be a fun read considering what went down after the video leak.

So why exactly are we allowed to get multiple copies of a single weapon? It's not like we do anything with the extras.

We'll probably be able to trade sometime next year

Or not play. Same thing really under this system.

And play a certain way? If you're not helping your team and just griefing, you won't be earning points. I'd rather those people didn't get rewards. If you're trying to help your team at all, you do earn points in TF2. This is universal to newer players and older players.

I have found the very inverse to be true. Since the update I've been playing Spy a ton, and sniper... not so much. I have 4 Cloak and Daggers, a Dead Ringer and the Ambassador. Whereas I only have the (shitty) Razorback for sniper. It must well and truly be random.

Edit: Although over all Spy is my least played class. But 2nd least played is Sniper (33% more play time). Hmmm...

I FUCKING HATE YOU

rage

well, maybe in the future they will do it based on playtime. I forgot that I did get duplicate medic stuff (duplicate kritzkreig and blutsauger) but that's another class I barely play, because I just hate having to convince shitty offensive players to go rush in with me, and I also hate building an ubercharge.

wtt [Sandman], [Kritzkrieg], or [Backburner] for [The Cloak and Dagger], pst

lf2m heroic Badwater, 1 healer 1 ranged dps, must be geared pst

I got 2 cloak and dagger and (I think) the regular cloak in one instant. The splash page that popped up to inform me had all 3 listed from left to right. I had to horizontal scroll to be able to see them all. But they're all listed in my briefcase, so it was legit. I don't know how it happened.

I already had Cloak and Dagger when that happened
:D

But HEY if they implement the trading system ASAP I know who I'm giving my extra CAD's to.

You do have an extra Huntsman, right? ;)

7/10 of my friends list that are in TF2 games are in achievements_idle. #8 is in a pyro achievement server for some reason.

Seriously, huge buzzkill. I was looking forward to actually getting stuff just by playing with friends, (I never got stuff like the Ubersaw or KGB, and I have none of the Sniper, Spy, or Scout unlocks except for a Cloak and Dagger I just found today). Instead they're all in lame idle servers.

SMH, GAF.

Add me: Slavik81

I'm playing right now. (And have decided against idling)

achievements_idle is actually a really cool map :lol

What's cool about it? Not interested in visiting, since people are so knee-jerk and bitchy about Achievement maps now. (Blacklisting people for going to Achievement_Scout, christ. :lol )

Eh, not really. There are lots of things you don't earn points for that help the team. A scout using Bonk to distract a sentry so someone else can take it out, for example. Or a pyro using his airblast to put out his teammates. It would be a lot more frustrating to be doing those things, being a team player, and getting a lower drop rate because of it. Better to just pyro rush over and over.

Okay, you people DO REALIZE that people go into Idle servers when they are doing something other than tf2? Like instead of just straight logging off, you slap yourself in an idle server and go to sleep. People aren't going "Hey I'd love to play some TF! I'm gonna go to an idle server and stare at my screen!" No it's "Wow that was a fun X hours of TF2, time for bed! <logs into idle server>"

Do people here actually think that any more than a small, vocal minority of people is actually using the idle servers to unlock weapons? Because people said the exact same thing about how "everyone" was just going to achievement servers to unlock weapons when weapons were still tied to achievements, yet the stats show that less than 26% of people have ever unlocked a single weapon.

Just like every single TF2 update ever released, people seem to be overblowing the whole thing and its effect on the community at large.

+100...some of us actually have real life commitments and can't play TF2 24/7.

Ok and 60% of people have not won 20 games.

You are not directly rewarding players for their actions. It's a flawed system on the most basic level.

It's not even on an MMO level where more kills gives you more chance.

That 'vocal minority' is the minority that actually plays the game. How many copies of TF2 and/or The Orange Box have been sold? How many people still play regularly?

You should be thanking us for leaving our computers running achievements_idle while we sleep/eat/participate in family life because come this week Valve is going to recant or something and we'll all have a better system for _earning_ achievements.

Yep. I have tons of friends who bought the game and never played. They won't get the weapons either, because they don't play the game.

As was already discussed, merely saying "26% of people" doesn't really mean much, since that could be 26% of all people who have ever played TF2, including free weekend people. It would be more interesting and relevant to see the opinions and behavior of people who had played TF2 a lot before this update and already had the previous 12 weapons.

Also, as someone already posted (inlining this for effect...I can edit it out if you like):

nofarming.jpg

Sure, hundreds of people may be a "small, vocal minority" but that doesn't mean that it's insignificant. And really, what are you trying to say? Many people here have explained their own situations and what results they've seen. What's the problem with them using idle servers to get a slightly better chance of weapons that they haven't gotten from actually playing?

so far I got 2 different weapons each day for the past three days. If I get two different weapons again, I'm going to think it's just a pattern and be satisfied with getting two a day.

only problem is that I get things I don't really want.

I've not been in one. Tons on the friend's list are. I prefer to do my grumbling in the thread and avoid achievement servers at all releases. But, yeah, these have always been extremely popular with gaf. I always find it humorous.

Only 31% of players have "surgical prep." What does that mean? Absolutely nothing.
