Team Fortress 2 Sniper Update Info, Pyro Megaton

I'm going to LOVE the new Payload gametype. I went through a phase a few months ago of playing exclusively on payload servers - I just find it so much more fun than anything else :D

apparently Im the only person who ever enjoyed CTF and still prefers 2fort to every other map. I really like two-sided CP maps like Well and Badlands too, but again it feels like im in the minority.

I hate defense and payload maps because my success is too reliant on my team

none of the updates outside of medic have provided me new weapons that actually match my style of play. It's rather disappointing. Sniper has been promising thus far however.
Pyro did, but I went back after a couple weeks of no longer being able to flank with backburner. Now I'm pushing the flame to airblast and axe combo.

Opposite. I love trying to fill the gap for the team and save the defense. I love RED way more than BLU on them.

Maybe TF2 isn't the game for you? Sounds like you want Team Deathmatch.
And I agree with benjipwns. Joining a losing team and helping them help makes you feel badass. Like yesterday when I joined a team that got rolled on Dustbowl 3-1, but then held BLU for 18 minutes and won. It was awesome.

Man I really want a new CP map in the style of dustbowl and a new CTF map. All made by Valve, not these custom ones.. 2fort is a pretty crappy ctf map.

I like Arena maps a lot more than other maps as well, but I actually find it is more reliant on your team to have good positioning in the map then with other map types such as payload. Though I love me some Gold Rush as well.

He wants more classic CTF. In TFC the maps were bigger and if you were good enough you could lone wolf it into a base, steal the flag, and get out regardless of what defenses they had set up. The new versions of CTF maps valve made (Well and Badlands) aren't really conducive to that kind of play anymore as they're more focused on choke points.

Of course you could argue that TF2 isn't about that kind of play anymore, but having played good remakes of the old CTF levels it works more or less as well as it used to.

Ugh, more Arena maps for me to avoid. Awesome.

At least the Payload map sounds like fun. I wonder if when on that uphill part at the end of the map the payload will roll down without a countdown per usual mechanics.

If only this game was balanced. I would have kept playing it...
The only balance problems I have are crits which I try not to worry about. Other than that it's a highly situational game where every class has pros and cons, there's never been a "best" or "worst" class.

I haven't even seen decent a fan-made version of these yet

You and me both. I loved Rock so much. Setting up a turret and defending that last hallway before the Capture Point was always tons of fun. I also want another "Shutdown" like map where you have to de-activate a laser grid in order to get access to the key/flag. And even though I have no idea if it would work with the current class structure, I would love to play Hunted again (even if Payload was it's replacement). Get that Civilian class animated Valve, and throw him in.

Living proof that posting on NeoGAF requires no skill.

What unlockable was Valve hinting at earlier on their blog; something that'd make the sniper move out of his camp hole ...

Can the arrows just be stuck and not kill the player? For example, you see a pyro running back into your area with an arrow in its back? :lol

edit: Also the snipers who camp at one spot all the time are retarded and make up for some easy and juicy backstabs. Yes, you know that was me you #%#@! :D

The triumvirate of awesome for me is Dustbowl, Badwater, and Badlands. There's no Valve map I really hate aside from Turbine, though. Turbine is just ass and I don't get why Valve added it.

I've almost single handedly won a round of payload on Badwater Basin as Heavy. I just parked my ass in front of the cart, let it push me forward and murdered everything in front of me. I was a few feet away from the final cap point when I finally died. That had about as much to do with my play as it did with how bad the other team was. Point is it doesn't matter what the mode is, sometimes one player can make the difference and other times you live and die by your team.

Your team didn't win the match because of you, your team won because the other team was shit.

Updated.

A shield to protect you from backstabs.
Valve said:
The Razorback is a beautiful hand-carved tribal shield, built using indigenous techniques passed from father to son since before recorded time. Sometimes the old ways really are the best ways. And after using the Razorback in the field, we quickly discovered this was not one of those times.

All the tribal craftsmanship in the world, it turns out, cannot stop a modern butter knife. So we taped a car battery to it. Sure, the added weight of the redesigned Razorback’ll slow you down a little. But any poor sap dumb enough to backstab you while you’re sporting one is getting a surprise to the tune of 10,000 volts. Plus, if they want to stab you again, they’ll have to wait until their knife cools down. Which is lucky for you, since the Razorback collapses into a million finely crafted pieces after a single stab.
Background looks like new payload map?

Oh wtf, that is so awesome. :lol

I hope there is some kind of sound to alert the sniper that his shield is down as well. (Who am I kidding? It's Valve- of course there will be.)

Turbine seems...unfinished...to me. Like the room in the middle should be expanded on somehow. I don't know.

They need to rotate the shipping containers so they give some cover from Snipers, and maybe lower the platforms so Spies can get up and sap the sentries.

I doubt that you can equip a sniper rifle/bow and the shield at the same time if it's to replace the submachine gun. This just helps the sniper get away should the initial backstab attempt fail.

It may be a one-time use item. Since as it says, it can only withstand one stab.

It also sounds like a spy can survive the shock, but just can't use his knife again right away. He can probably cloak and escape for a few seconds to come back and stab again.

Pretty much this. I was huge into TFC, which I felt had a better balance of personal vs team success.

In theory teamwork is appealing to me, id love to fill a specific role. But more often then not Ill choose a class underrepresented on my team, just to have 3 other people switch to that class 5 minutes later. This creates an endless cycle of people leaving gaps in our makeup, which I then fill, which then becomes over saturated.

Guarantee this is a passive buff you have even while zoomed in. I hope this is the melee replacement and we still have a real SMG alternative in the pipeline.

The part about slowing you down is a bit troubling though. Seems like it will be better suited for the old sniper rifle

The only change the middle room on Turbine needs is a giant laser on the ceiling that immediately destroys all sentry guns set up in there.

What's with people complaining about the SMG though? It's perfectly fine for killing spies, scouts, medics, other snipers, and then helping out with killing all other classes as well. It's a lot better than the scout and engi secondary pistol.

If a class gets close I always use the Kukri and I win over 60% of the time. If they're at medium distance but shooting at me I'll try to noscope (Which isn't hard if you've played Sniper long enough). SMG is almost completely pointless.

Awesome, camping snipers should still be scared shitless.

*nods*. I can't even remember the last time I pulled out the SMG. Close range, you're much better off going for a machete kill, medium range go no scoped or quickly pull into scope for a slight charge.

You do realize that a real SMG alternative would be a weapon equally as crappy as the SMG, right? Something like this makes sense for the SMG unlock because it comes with an inherent disadvantage. That way it can be reasonably useful while still leaving Snipers a reason to keep the useless SMG. Same reasoning behind the Sandman.

This is one thing I regret about TF2. I loved the original, and mainly played scout. Despite the increase in offense with the scatter gun, I preferred the more open maps, concussion grenades, and the nail gun to what the scout class is now. I could never even concussion jump in the original either.
