Team Fortress 2 Trading |OT|

After not having playing TF2 for months, I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not going back to it. I just don't have the time or desire to play multiplayer shooters anymore. But at one point, I was way into item collection, and I'm pretty sure my stuff still holds value.

http://backpack.tf/id/divisionbyzorro
(Estimated cash value: $179. Highlights: two earbuds, low-tier unusual)

I'd much prefer it all going at once rather than going piecemeal, but I'm open to offers. What am I looking for? Cash/Paypal would be nice, and I'd be totally happy with getting less for things if we're dealing in cash. If you'd prefer the security of Steam trades, I do have a Wishlist:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/divisionbyzorro/wishlist/
(The order is completely arbitrary and means nothing.)

PM me if you're interested. Note that I'm in Australia, which means that I might be slow to respond to you if you're in the U.S.

You guys use .bat for getting items right? It's very legit since you're playing the game with low settings.

Am I doing it right though?

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam"
start steam.exe -applaunch 440 -console -textmode -novid -nosound -nopreload -nojoy -noshader +map_background ctf_2fort

mines looks similar. If your is not working, you can use mines:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -novid -windowed -textmode -nosound -nopreload +map_background itemtest sv_password "fffffffff"

Itemtest, it's like a boxed off version of Gorge's spawn room that you would otherwise use for testing items on static bots and stuff.

Ahh okay. Thanks.

Been missing out items since I last played months ago. I want to trade again but lack stuff. Hahahahah!

What do earbuds go for? Was just thinking of throwing a bunch of stuff on the market and I dont see earbuds on the market to get an idea of their worth.

Current price of earbuds if you were to sell it for Paypal is around $30.

If this item were allowed to be sold on the market, it would definitely be higher than $30.

If I traded...would it go for:

Bioshock Infinite
DmC
Resident Evil 6

or a combination of any of the 3 games listed?

edit: nm...just traded buds and 2 bills for DmC

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Would anyone be here interested in a bunch of non-vintage hats and older strange weapons?

In my continuing effort to sell off my virtual items since I don't play the game anymore, I'm pretty much down to these. Mostly looking to get refined (or simply just keys) that I can then swap for keys to sell on the Steam Market.

So I'm curious, because I haven't found a good answer to this on Google:

My understanding is that the factor driving the cost of keys down is that people are selling keys for metal, and then the people buying those keys list them on the marketplace.

Here's what I don't get though: Why would anyone sell keys for metal? It doesn't seem like metal can be used to craft anything truly valuable economy-wise (no stranges, no unusuals, no promo items, etc.), so I'm not sure what the inherent value of metal is, other than a way to value the kinds of items that are worth less than a key.

Now, I suppose metal is somewhat more valuable if you are a newer player in search of specific normal items, but does this really cause enough of a demand for metal to justify the value?

Crafting can give you really valuable items if you are among the first 100 to craft a new item, especially the first 10 (a numbered item).
Also, crafting can give you items much cheaper than buying them from store/black market, but that doesn't happen too often.
It is pretty much a gamble, just like unlocking crates, where you for the most of the time get crap worth way less than a key as well.

This is an excellent point. The TF2 economy certainly is bizarre.

I've been trying to figure out what the odds are like, as far as using keys to open crates hoping for a good unusual to trade vs. buying what you want from someone else. Based on statistics I've seen, I get the impression fishing for unusuals is a terrible gamble, and it makes me wonder why the market prices for in-demand unusual hats haven't increased as a result.

Is there only so much a person will pay for a digital hat with a particle effect on it? Say it ain't so!

It is indeed a terrible gamble, but you can hit jackpot sometimes.
New unusuals are constantly created, some hunt for those.
Some unusuals are very rare and also note that there are different hat tiers and different particle effect tiers.
I've seen unusuals range from 10 keys to +10 buds (~$340), so the price isn't written on stone.

This is why it's recommended to only open valuable crates, like Salvaged Crates #30/#40.
Although, it kinda fails anyway, since those are very expensive as well, so the chance is that you lose anyway. The payback is greater if you're lucky though.

I'm a total noob so I'm just going to throw this down here, someone said I can get like $15 for Summer shades and I didn't even know they were tradable, then he introduced me to gift wrap.

Anyways I have that and some other older stuff I'd like to offload if anyone wants to explain this to me.

I made a list I crosschecked from the Wiki page, these are gift wrappable I guess.

hunstman

Only thing worth gift wrapping on your list is the summer shades.

If trading in Tf2 Economy, it would go for around 5-6 keys. If you sells the keys on the current Steam Market, then you would gain around $11.35-$13.62 in Steam Wallet funds.

Yeah, at the prices those crates go for, I can't see that being a viable solution.

I was thinking today: They should let you craft 2 unusual hats together to get a new one. Two unusuals that are completely different would provide a random one, two of the same hat would provide a random particle effect with that hat type, two with the same particle effect would give you a random hat of that particle effect.

It'd barely get used except by super-rich traders, but I think having a way to encourage unusual destruction would be good for the rarity of them.

This all came about in my head because I noticed TF2Finance seems to think there are only around 10k Max's Severed Heads in existence, but it still feels like I see other people wearing them constantly. It got me thinking about item rarity, and ways to preserve that rarity.

Thanks man I appreciate it, I could use some extra game funds right now.

So I have SUMMER SHADES for trade if anyone wants them here.

I'm pretty much a noob at TF2 trading and I have a question. Does the price of genuine items normally rise or not? I'm planning to sell my Genuine Shred Alert and Genuine Brütal Bouffant. Originally I decided to hold onto them for a while, because I thought the price would go up, but according to the graph on the Market page, it's been slowly declining. Perhaps I should sell them now or is it just a temporary thing?

Sell them ASAP, genuines are generally not very popular and they decrease a lot in value over time. I remember saving some genuines a while back, big mistake, they lost roughly 50% of the value. You get the best value from them if you sell them the as soon as they become tradable/marketable.

Thanks for advice! Put them on the market, the price is still good: about 70% of what I paid for the game.

Can anyone tell me if I have any valuable items to trade or sell? I haven't played TF2 regularly in a while so I don't really know anything about the market anymore.

Just look up all the genuines (green) on the community market. You got some fairly valuable stuff there as far as I can tell.

Excluding Summers Shade, you can put up your green and blue items on Steam Market .

Summer Shade will have to be giftwrapped and trade to another person for ~5 keys. Then you can put the keys up on the market.

Roughly you are going to get at least $25 in Steam Wallet funds if sold at the lowest price.

Some guy offered me $20 in Steam cash or PayPal money for my strange festive huntsman. Anyone know if that's a fair price? He linked me to his sourceop account to show he's not some scammer but I know nothing about trading items for money.

Wow, I didn't even know that existed. Steam Market says there are 28 of these starting at $31. I might just list it there then.

edit- damn they make that easy. Come on, someone buy this from me lol. I wish I could sell it for a PSN card tho...

edit 2- wow that sold fast. $27 in my steam wallet for a stupid looking huntsman. Nice! I actually prefer the regular strange huntsman so this worked out just fine.
