Ted Price: PS3 is 'Whipping Boy' for Press

"I think the PS3 has become the whipping boy for the press, quite honestly... I wish people hadn't been so ready to criticize Sony, because we're certainly affected by that as well, since Resistance was synonymous with the PS3. Obviously, Sony has come out and said that there are things they could have done better, but I could say that about any of our games too. The fact is that PS3's out there, it's sold well, and we're looking at an upcoming Christmas that should provide a lot of unique content to players, which is pretty exciting... and top among them Ratchet, of course."

He called the new Ratchet for PS3 "the largest and most complex game we've ever made."

Really looking forward to Rachet... It's holding hands with Uncharted, HS, GT, and MGS in my circle of ps3 gaming love...

but it is true what he is saying though.

And within 5 posts the haters are out.

I like Price he needs to be on the Insomniac podcast more(since ya know he hasnt been on it), if he can get away from partying with Shakira that is. :D

Ryan: I'm not going to abandon this team.
Horatio: [Puts his sunglasses on.] And we, Mr. Wolfe, are not going to abandon you.

What.

When you price your console that high and you make some of the statements that the Sony PR made...it's kind of hard not to be called on it by the press. But Sony is certainly doing some better things here lately, especially with their games.

Since Insomniac is ostensibly an independent company, if it bothers them that much they can always go and make Wii or X360 games.

Yeah, and the press wasn't "ready to criticize" the PS3. Sony and the PS3 were the media darlings leading up to E3 '06. But when you **** up that badly, of course it's not going to be ignored, no matter how much the media may have loved you hours before.

Why are they... btw so loyal to Sony...?

Seems to be a bad business move to only support a console with the smallest userbase.

Welll, he's obviously right.

yup Could you imagine the media reaction if the PS3 & X360 defect rates were reversed?? There'd be huge coverage from game & mainstream press

but IMO the changes the last month or two Sony has been doing has started to help correct some of this. They get the price down, get some great games this fall and things will start to quiet down.

but they'd get owned by last-gen media :(

He said the team is now putting the finishing touches on the title, which he called "the largest and most complex game we've ever made."

Dang, that's some mighty efficient game development. Insomniac are brilliant developers, can't wait to see what you guys have to show at E3.

They're good to Sony because Sony has been good to them. We'll see what happens in the long run, but a developer can do a lot worse than hooking up with a hardware manufacturer that throws their full marketing weight behind their games.

There isn't a full transcription ... but it is pretty unlikely he just came out of nowhere and stated this.

It seems obvious this is in response to a question or comment by the interviewer.

He's only stating the obvious. Still, there had to be something to disrupt all the good Sony news lately. It never fails :lol

Reliable, trustworthy last-gen media. Did you know that the two most successful gaming consoles use last-gen media? That's the kind of reputation you can bank on.

Whatever. They keep crying like there's no reason at all people are negative about the PS3.
Im not going to open that can of worms, and just say do you ever not live up to your tag?

I dunno, but that made me lol.

Ignoramus 101
anyway, they (sony) deserve the support, especially with how well Insomniac has done on their platforms. R&C is a great franchise, and the Insomniac-developed Spyro games were a lot of fun.

Sony have been partnering with Insomniac for a long time and it has seemingly worked out for both.
Resistance has sold well over a million now, it's also Insomniacs fastest selling game ever.
Also, I guess they can see where it's all headed beyond this year.

.. This is a blatant lie.

No, it hasn't sold well. The REASON (price, not interested in games, whatever you think it is) doesn't matter. It just hasn't sold well.

Well IIRC they always made games for Sony consoles, I guess they trust the company and the brand enough to continue that way.

Still, there had to be something to disrupt all the good Sony news lately. It never fails

Conspiracy?!

Resistance has sold over 2 million as was reported recently.

Ted Price: Man up or GTFO.

People had legitimate reason to go after the PS3.

Just as people have legit reasons to harp on MS for their hardware issues.

Address those concerns (that are based on valid complaints) and the negative focus would disappear.

Yeah, that's the whole point of the complete interview. He talks about the efficiency of their team and how they've built the company so that quality of life is not adversely affected.
