Teenage son discovers his deceased father's ghost car in Xbox rally game

Losing a parent at just six years of age is unimaginable. You may vaguely remember some of the wonderful memories from that brief time spent together, but the pain surely never goes away. I imagine you cling to those memories dearly, grasping hold of them and praying that over time you won't forget.

For one teenage YouTube commenter (00WARTHERAPY00) that scenario is real. And in the comments section of a piece about whether video games can be a spiritual experience, he told his touching story:

Well, when i was 4, my dad bought a trusty XBox. you know, the first, ruggedy, blocky one from 2001. we had tons and tons and tons of fun playing all kinds of games together - until he died, when i was just 6.

i couldnt touch that console for 10 years.

but once i did, i noticed something.

we used to play a racing game, Rally Sports Challenge. actually pretty awesome for the time it came.

and once i started meddling around... i found a GHOST.

literaly.

you know, when a time race happens, that the fastest lap so far gets recorded as a ghost driver? yep, you guessed it - his ghost still rolls around the track today.

and so i played and played, and played, untill i was almost able to beat the ghost. until one day i got ahead of it, i surpassed it, and...

i stopped right in front of the finish line, just to ensure i wouldnt delete it.
Bliss.

His story moved many fellow commenters to tears, with one saying: "Dude I can't handle this. This hits me so hard. I used to play video games with my dad too. We'd play Mario Kart 64 and Zelda. He died when I was 16. How I envy that Ghost racer."

Yahoo Autos was unable to confirm the identity of the original poster, but if we receive a response we will be sure to update the story. The teenager's comment has been picked up by various publications in Asia and since gone viral. He claims to be overwhelmed by the response, saying he "just commented on a video, which happened to be about spirituality in video games" and "never expected any of this."

Nothing replaces the loss of a loved one, but it's those memories that we cherish so very dearly. Or in the case of this teenage son, the ghost of his deceased father that still races on.

What an awesome story!

My father died of a massive heart attack when I was 24. I'm 39, so my father was of another time and had no love of video games, but he loved the PBS show 'Nature' and he, my brother, and I all watched it together every Sunday. Every time I see it (which is rare these days), I smile and think of him.

I remember reading this over 3 years ago, maybe longer. I'm sure it happens quite a bit these days.
