Hmm... the game defaults to borderless as the window mode but for some reason when I set it to full it there are some stages that will drop into the 40s in both the story campaign and in the practice mode. Switching back to borderless seems to have fixed the random drops and I'll keep an eye on it.
I'm assuming there's some bug that's causing these fps drops.
Just wanted to thank you for indirectly fixing my performance problems. Basically, I'd been running this game fine at max settings 1440p/60fps until last night (GTX 1080/6700k). Suddenly, I was getting frame drops down to the high 40s with the bears on screen, and very occasionally minor dips elsewhere.
After trying all the usual fixes, google brought me to your post. Guess what? My game was outputting two images! When I switched to Borderless Window through the in-game settings, there was a 720p window of the game running identically on top of the full screen 1440p one. Exiting out and restarting brought everything back to normal and a perfect 60fps.
The source of this is resolution scaling. I'd done plenty of tinkering in the past between 150-200%, and like the rest of you, was baffled why the image quality looked no better and no performance impact. Changing the resolution back to 100%, as I did last night, seemed to trick the game into outputting two images linked with the last resolution scaling. The scaling is in reverse, but 1440 is 2 x 720, 200% being my last scaling.
Check the same thing isn't happening to you if you're having performance problems. Borderless Window will unmask it.
