Sad to say that one of the best new TV shows in years, Terriers, was canceled today. You all will catch this a year or two later on Netflix and complain about only having 1 season. Well, not watching it despite my best efforts made that happen. Hrumph.
Let's not bring Justified into this. It was an amazing show as well and I am anxious for Season 2.Spookie said:This was better and more focused than Justified's first season. That gets a second and this gets fired in to the sun?
Fuck FX. Fuck the American public. Ugh.
CajoleJuice said:As bad as FX's advertising for the show was, the pilot still got 1.61 million viewers. So I'm just going to blame it on people fucking sucking.
I'm trying to switch it up because people are hating on FX and overall, the network is pretty fucking fantastic. This was just a really sad story of awful advertising and some FX viewers not warming to it. Example of a kid I know: loves Sons of Anarchy (even this season) and The Walking Dead -- he stopped watching Terriers after 5 episodes. People just suck.Clevinger said:This is one of those rare times where blaming the network's advertising is correct. I hope that whole marketing team are feeling like the assholes they are right now.

No, it's better than F&G. Definitely more cohesive. EVERY episode was fucking good. Fuck.Tim the Wiz said:It's probably the best and most cohesive one-season show to grace television. Apart from maybe Freaks & Geeks

Agreed. FX does a lot of great stuff. They botched the advertising on this, and then they weren't left with much of a choice once the ratings bottomed out. Ratings were unsustainable at the end of the season, but look at what Justified did (Premiere: 4.2 million viewers, 1.5 18-49; Finale: 2.0 million viewers, 0.8 18-49) versus Terriers (1.6 million viewers, 0.5 18-49; Finale 0.8 million viewers, 0.3 18-49) and it's hard to not blame the initial advertising. Retention looks similar to me percentage-wise.dead souls said:Not really. The advertising might be responsible for the weak start, but that doesn't explain why the ratings dropped like a rock after the pilot and never really recovered.
Once the season got going Terriers had the exact same advertising as any other FX show. For awhile FX was even encoring it after new episodes of Sons of Anarchy.
It's a true shame that it wasn't renewed, but FX had no choice with its pathetic numbers.
Interesting numbers. I guess we'll never know what better ads would have doneCornballer said:Agreed. FX does a lot of great stuff. They botched the advertising on this, and then they weren't left with much of a choice once the ratings bottomed out. Shawn Ryan says:

Definitely. It sounds like he's truly lost sleep over the show tanking.Clevinger said:I feel really bad for Landgraf, maybe even most of all. I can't imagine enjoying a job like his when he's so obviously invested in the creative side.
