Terriers - Season 1 - Wednesdays on FX

I've got no problem with standalone episodes. My favorite episode so far is the bank manager one.

But this was a weak episode. I think the tech nerds and ice cream pharmacist were a little too convenient and sort of a cop out for the writers. Why wouldn't they use these guys every episode if they can do shit like hack into airline's servers?

But I guess my biggest problem was the the case/home life paralleled just didn't feel as organic as it has in other weeks. Hank's speech to the kid at the end felt forced and contrived.

But the Stephanie stuff was really good. It was really a little bubble they had lived in with her being there, and they handled it well.

I really liked this episode. A lot of great little moments, from the tech geek discussing his sex life to the question of why and what does an amnesiac remember.

Because they aren't a firm that can offer much monetarily, or at least they don't appear that way. It's help in exchange for help, in a bum's network sort of way.

edit: As for the AVClub review, the writer is missing one of the major missing persons from the actual episode: Hank's ex Gretchen. The neighbors seem to know or care more about her than they do Hank, and Steph's departure returns Hank to an empty house. You could draw a parallel between the strangeness of what an amnesiac remembers and the selectiveness of what an ex remembers or say a survivor remembers.

Thought the episode was fantastic. Absolutely love this show.
Seriously gonna be devastated if this show doesn't come back. Shawn Ryan's gotta have some cache at FX after making The Shield, something to ensure this gets renewed.

Given the ratings, I can't see why FX would renew it. They have no need to keep something on the air that gets an eighth of the ratings Sons of Anarchy does.

It's my favorite new show of the fall so I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

A pic of one of the execs...

Good episode. Not as awesome as pretty much everything from 3 on, but still great. Brit is really losing it, I can't wait to see what happens with that.

Really loving the show. Hope it's renewed.

I hope the cheating with the teacher secret gets out. Would be interesting.

Yeah, so I just finally watched this episode and Katie was wayyyy to drunk to give consent. The whole thing seemed more like rape than cheating to me. It's unfortunate that they're handling it like the latter...

I think the way it's handled that way is due to Katie's reaction to it. SHE doesn't see it as rape or getting taken advantage of, she's upset with herself for allowing it to happen.

Holy fuck that was an amazing episode. That was like a 40 minute thriller. The lack of posters in this thread saddens me :(

Agreed. This show has gone from an afterthought to the one I look forward to most every week. More people need to watch it.

Wow that episode was probably the best yet. This show keeps getting better and better. Please FX, just on faith, please renew this.

Yeah, that was the best episode of this show yet. So damn good.
EDIT: I immediately reconsidered this; some of the Lindus stuff (like Fustercluck) was better. But this was still an amazing episode.

Found out about this show in a really strange way, glad I did. Never would have watched it otherwise. Hopefully they put some money behind it next season, use some of the Rescue Me money they're going to free up.

I really hope this show gets renewed despite the atrocious ratings... it is so fucking good and I don't even normally like this genre.

Having this and Lone Star get canceled would suck. At least Lone Star only had 2 episodes, so I couldn't get too attached. But 13 episodes of Terriers will have me begging for more.

With Mad Men gone, this is my favorite show each week. This week's episode really stretched the idea of these guys being too small to fail, or in this case, too inconsequential to be cared about.

I think my favorite line was the DEA guy asking if Hank was a undercover cop, which sort of highlighted the sort of work he actually does for the police. The Hank and Ex-partner relationship at first seems like Hank trying to con his way into extra help, but the police get just as much out of the deal if not more.

The jail-break was a little too easy but it was an awesomely intense episode nonetheless. I actually don't mind them not getting back into that whole Lindus story arch if they keep us this interested each week.

Yeah i think they might go more the Psych route for a few eps...... different story each week with maybe the Lindus thing on the back burner for a while.

I think where Terriers shine is how it manages to nicely balance episodic plots with multiple overlapping story arcs (Katie's affair, Britt's history with Ray, Steph, etc)
