TF2 Engineer update incoming?

Where does that come from ? It seems like the kind of thing that would be easy to fake.

Edit : just checked the wiki page for the golden wrench, it's not fake.

On the night of July 4th, 2010, sixteen accounted for players received the Golden Wrench after a drop was triggered by Robin. The following is the process of events according to Nineaxis, TF2 Wiki moderator and contributor.

According to him, he queried Robin Walker about whether or not the wrench was a preorder reward for another game, which it is not. Robin then invited him to play, promising more answers. After playing, Robin told him the code had a bug. A while later, Robin invited him to a server, supposedly having fixed the bug mentioned before, and proceeded to trigger the drops, mentioning that they do not drop randomly after Nineaxis asked. Shortly after, Robin left and halted any further drops, to presumably fix a bug that affected the wrenches which had been dropped.

It is rumored that only five Wrenches were supposed to drop on July 4th, however a bug in the system caused many more to drop due to lag and strange issues with the drop system. This would go a long way to explaining why the currently available wrenches share the numbers 1 through 3 with each other. Whether or not these are the only wrenches that will be dropped total is to be seen, though it is logical that more will be dropped in the coming days.

Oh wow, lovely comic, this! I can't wait to do some speculating.

Some tidbits in reply to the thread:

  • Redmond and Blutarch were in the previous halloween update already
  • Seems the not-dying-machine isn't going to be built since Engie discovers a Guns bluprint from his grandfather

So basically, a new teleporter upgrade?

If they give the Engineer a new PDA slot and have an upgrade sitting there, I suppose it could change what buildings he can make. Unfortunately, with that, you wouldn't be able to change all your buildings at once, just one. :\
 
Is it me of has a lot of items had a buggy drop or released early? such as the crit-a-cola and other misc weapons you can craft, seems fishy.

Seeing as I've gotten two pair of earbuds despite it being an OSX gift, I'm inclined to agree with you.

Also, that comic is impressive, loved the "wait, he's just dead" page. But learning more about the years before TF2 and the Mann.co history is awesome.

I remember being pretty impressed with the graphics and art direction in this screenshot back in school. Saw it printed in a game mag or something. So cool:lol

TF2 really turned out great!

Pfft, as with every update this will cause the servers to be filled with all sorts of random people playing engie horribly.

I'll probably have a blast sapping shit as a Spy, too. :lol
 
But now everybody will counter Engie, so I'll be playing Engie instead :D And I've gotten more than enough practice being offensive engie!

I dunno but the page says the people on the list sat around pressing the "craft it" button. So even if they got it some other way it's probably fixed by now.

on the wrench page, it implies that those who have wrenches were hitting the "craft it" button.
 
So, assuming they are giving out 25 wrenches a day through random magic...

Today: 1-25
Tueday: 26-50
Wednesday: 51-75
Thursday: 76-100

It would end on a Thursday, so...Engineer Update Thursday, with accompanying free weekend?
