GUITAR WEAPON AMIRITE

I'm assuming that's a guitar taunt killcam achievement. Would be very cool if there was a guitar that replaced the wrench.

Strange about the achievements. I don't see the standard milestones. Those are normally part of them, right?

I don't think so. It should be 35 achievements + 3 milestones. That'd fit in with the numbers for most classes.

Huh? No, still sounds boring.

Manually controlling the sentry and being completely immobile while doing so is the complete opposite of what I want out of the engineer update. More reasons to turtle! Hurray! NOT.

I was hoping for more offensive/mobile items.

Manual control of Sentry also opens up the possibility of long range offensive Sentry because it's no longer limited by the automatic detection range.

Boonoo said:
I dunno, if he's got the wrangler up that's a perfect time to backstab, as his death might invoke the 3 second pause, thus allowing for easy sapping.

So you just put your back to the wall and shoot anyone who gets close.

Javaman said:
The engie might just be able to hang out in his spawn. This'll probably make it much easier to stop uber rushes since a skilled engineer can ignore the medic (who should be drawing the sentry in order for the ubered person to advance) and shoot the demo/pyro/heavy exclusivly. The additional pushback + shield + further range is going to make these VERY tough to break through.
Except I am assuming you can't repair it when you do this.
Confidence Man said:
It should be even easier for spies, since you're almost certainly going to be aiming turret-like from the gun's perspective.
Presumably you don't have to sap. Just stab the engie and not worry about the gun.
Heck even shoot the engie now.

What I'm seeing is that these new weapons are going to make Engineers become more offensive and think differently about how they operate and what role they fit on the team. Should be pretty interesting to see how it works out.

Spire said:
Yes. I'm just wondering why you're complaining about a class whose unique aspect is their turtling ability not being made more mobile when there are plenty of mobile classes already.
I wanted unlocks that encourage the engineer to play DIFFERENTLY. Making him more mobile/offensive is the best, easiest, and most appealing way to do so.

My favorite unlocks so far are the huntsman and the sword'n'board because they completely change the way the class is played.

It's not a difficult concept.

IF the wrangler doesn't make the engy immobile, then my fears are for nothing. If the wrangler DOES make the engy immobile, then it's the worst most boring weapon ever for someone like me.

Ah, that's right. For some reason I was thinking most classes had 35ish with the milestones.

What possible reason would it have to make the Engineer immobile?

My guess is that's the taunt killcam cheesemint.

...there are two ways it could work

a) The engineer is rendered immobile and the camera moves to a third-person sentry view.
b) The engineer simply points with the wrangler where he wants the sentry to shoot.

We've been through this already, man. Geez. D:

There is literally no reason that after stating that their goals with the Engineer unlocks was to make him more mobile, then to have an unlock render him immobile.

Not to mention it would make the Wrangler useless. Being unable to move, spies, snipers, etc, would have a field day.

Did they say their goal was to make him more mobile (I think that you'll be able to run around with the wrangler, but that doesn't radically alter the standard engie nest) ? Looking back they seem to have decided that making him more mobile had a direct negative effect on the team.

Lesson 2: The Dispenser and Teleporter are really good. We already knew this, but we didn't know that they were really, really good. Encouraging Engineers to either avoid building them entirely, or to build them in weird ways, broke the game's pacing immediately. New buildings in the Engineer update will probably take the form of upgrades, or entirely new choices alongside the old buildings, instead of replacements.

-----

Ultimately, the Repair Node was cut because it made the game more of a grind. While it definitely made it less stressful to manage a base as an Engineer, it wasn't fun. The Engineer gained a little bit of fun, but nearly everyone else in the match suffered as a result.

If only they had learned this before they did the demo update. You used to be able to stick an uber on just about every demo and get a sentry kill; that's a lot harder to do now, and as a result offence feels a lot slower than it used to.

No, making him more mobile at the cost of teleporters and dispensers had a direct negative effect on the team.

Any sort of radical mobility is going to be at the expense of teleporters and dispensers because without a engineer to babysit them they'll get sapped pretty quick.

I'd guess it's that one, since killcams are like photographs and IIRC previous killcam achievement icons were photos.
Yeah after posting that I looked at both images again and was like "derp photo derp derp".

Either way, essentially confirms guitar weapon. :D

I don't recall ever reading this, but if it's true, that's good and it gives me hope.

But this is where you're dead wrong. It would still be extremely effective. Engineers are rarely alone, and if they are it's stupid to use the wrangler - remember, it's not REQUIRED to have it on at all times.

Alright, I have surmised. Here's what I predict the achievements are for.

Doc Holiday: Heal (some large amount of) health using a Dispenser. (More than any Medic on your team?)
No Man's Land: Capture 25 control points by yourself.
Trade Secrets: Kill an enemy carrying the Intelligence (with a Wrangled/New Sentry?)
Death Metal: Destroy 10,000 metal worth of enemy buildings.
Land Grab: Steal a GOLDEN WRENCH!
Git Along!: Either: Remove (some large amount of) Sappers; or, related to third item.
How the Pests was Gunned: Remove (some number of) Sticky Bombs with your Shotgun.
Honky Tonk Man: Guitar tauntkill.
Breaking Morant: Kill 10 snipers with a Wrangled Sentry while they are out of its targeting range.
Rio Grind: Wrangle 50 Sentries.
Patent Protection: Kill an enemy attacking your Wrangled Sentry using the Sentry.
If You Build It, They Will Die: Unknown, but may be related to CTF. (The background is the "intel is that way" graphic.)
Texas Ranger: Unknown, related to third item.
Deputized: Taunt while an enemy dies by your Sentry.
Drugstore Cowboy: Not sure, may be what I thought for Doc Holiday.
Circle the Wagons: Wrench kill an enemy that's pushing the cart.
Built to Last: Have a Dispenser survive (a lot of damage/a long time).
(Not So) Lonely are the Brave: Be healing/supplying a Heavy as he gets (some number of) kills.

Battle Rustler: 100 teleports (in a life? in a round?)
Revengineering: Revenge crit an enemy (that destroyed/attacked your sentry?)
Search Engine: kill a (cloaked?) Spy with a Wrangled Sentry.
Pownd on the Range: Kill an enemy outside of the Sentry's tracking range.
Building Block: Using the Wrangler, absorb more damage to a Sentry than it would otherwise survive.
Unforgiven: Dominate 8 enemies with Frontier Justice.
Quick Draw: Kill a Spy within 10 seconds of them sapping your buildings.
The Wrench Connection: Melee kill a disguised Spy.
Silent Pardner: Unknown, related to third item
Fistful of Sappers: Not sure. Possibly related to third item.
Doc, Stock and Barrel: Repair (some large amount of) Sentry damage.
Best Little Slaughterhouse in Texas: Kill one enemy of every class with a single Sentry.
Frontier Justice: Kill a (cloaked?) Spy with Frontier Justice.
Six-String Stinger: Provide a killcam of you strummin'.
Uncivil Engineer: Kill an enemy with your Sentry while dead.
Texas Two-Step: Kill an enemy using your Shotgun and Sentry.
The Extinguished Gentleman: Extinguish a (several?) teammate using a Dispenser.

My suspicion for the final item is that alternate toolbox; in it is some kind of alternate Dispenser and alternate Sentry. The Sentry may be a Sniper-type precision weapon (more damage, less firing rate) or something with anti-sapper capabilities, and the Dispenser may be slower healing but overheals. The boombox style of carrying is meant as a cue to teammates that you've got this alternate gear.

Land Grab: Steal a GOLDEN WRENCH!

We hope and pray.

I think you may be right. They rubbing it in a little too hard. I could see it being pretty tough, though, maybe dominate and then kill him with your wrench or something tricky like that.

awesome. If the wrangler works like a infra red bombing beacon things where you just point and it shoots wherever it hits without range restrictions. Sentry probably do more DPS than a Heavy gun at range because of the better accuracy. Blows up sentry from afar, then you just crit the bastard.

I'm thinking you'll have to dominate an enemy Engineer as an Engineer (tough in itself), and land the dominating blow with your Wrench. Very specific and tricky.

The golden wrench frenzy is Valve's cruel way of getting everyone to burn through their excess items before the craftable moustaches drop on Thursday. I predict a TF2 blog update that is nothing but their maniacal laughter as they point at us sobbing in anger.

I think considering they wanted to make the Engineer more mobile, it has to be some sort of alternate buildings. You have a more powerful shotgun, better buildings if you turtle so there needs to be something with more mobility and a diverse play style

Is anyone else playing on Mac having serious problems with TF2 post update?

Yeah, serious problems. I eventually gave up, because I couldn't join servers, or it would stall to the point where I had to force-quit

Yea, there was a stealth update and it glitched on OSX a little. They're fixing it.

Word. I'll wait for the update, then.

Haha, I see some people on the list changed their name to say the golden wrench is a curse and made their profile private. I can only imagine how much they're getting spammed. :lol

Basically...the wrench thing, plus the raised item cap this week is just asking everyone to idle. I don't even know what Valve is trying to do really. :lol

I'm realizing this now :(

I kept all of my demo unlocks so I'll just play him for awhile I suppose.

oh i long ago picked up on it but the giant dildo they're ramming up my ass is nice and lubed so i'm just rollin' with the punches

Anyone wondering what they're doing needs to re-read the staff blog post from a month or so ago.

"I like how we haven't found any hats yet," said Brandon Reinhart. "It sets up the suspense better. I'm all, 'When am I going to find a hat already?'" Everyone laughed.
