TF2 Engineer update incoming?

I would suggest maybe changing your crosshair to the big circular dot (I don't know what number that is), and using the regular gun. If your aim isn't good enough or the pyro gets anywhere close enough to set you on fire and airblast you, then try natascha instead to hamper his or her little feet.
Yeah, that was the other thing I was gonna say. Natascha.

But damn . . . I need to work on my Pyro. I used to only use the Backburner. I crafted it so now I have the air blast but I never use it. I better try to learn how to use it . . . it does seem really useful. But the back burner is nice when you suck because it really melts foes if you can get behind them. :D

And I've been too stupid/slow to use the axetinguisher. I should learn that too.

I'm addicted to mini sentries. Can't stand normal ones now.

How is the Wrangler+Mini Sentry?

Its incredibly powerful in the midst of a battle if your able to get up a sentry and activate the wrangler before anyone notices. I find that throwing down a mini sentry and using the wranglers shield to block some damage is also a pretty effective strategy. Problem is if you fail to get the drop on your target you or your sentry are going to get destroyed before you do any real damage and the lack of firepower from the loss of your pistol is a real setback.

When I have both the wrangler and gunslinger in my load out I tend to avoid the frontier justice. Its a fantastic weapon and works great with the mini sentries however in my opinion you need the extra firepower for the more heated battles.

Medic obviously is all about teamwork.

Pyros are super juicy to medics equipped with the bluts. If you know the map and can run backwards from the pyro chances are you'll take him out before he does you as long as he isn't right on top of you. Usually the chase you without jinking too much making the bluts hit almost every time.

The only times I've ever had a use for that over just shooting fire at the enemy is against heavies who haven't seen me yet (one puff + axe). Against other people it's either too risky or too impractical. Or both.

Some heavies take two flaming axe hits too, I'm almost positive (maybe overhealed) so yeah, even more risky.

*edit* I just heard the engineer music. Wow, if you wait for a bit, it gets really nice.

When you're blue on stage 1 of thundermountain watch the NPCs for a bit and eventually they'll all pull off the thriller dance.
I guess they're practicing for Halloween

Why does the Scottish Resistance say you get +6 maximum pipebombs out at a time, when it actually seems to be more sticky bombs out?

Yeah, it seems too slow to switch to the axe.

Q for quick switch to Axetinguisher.

It's faster to kill a Heavy by blasting them once, circle strafe and hit him with your Axetinguisher once or twice than it is to circle strafe and continuously fire your flamethrower.

I use the Axetinguisher if I can sneak up to them, they don't notice me, or they're Heavies and/or terrible soldiers and demomen. It's the most satisfying way to kill someone in TF2, I think--even moreso than the backstab.

Nothing beats the 4+ backstabs in a row. Where you go through an entire lot of them in under 5 seconds. :lol

It's quite a rush when you catch an entire group crossing a bridge or going through a tunnel, true, but there's something immensely satisfying about lighting someone on fire, quickly tapping Q to switch to the axe, then critting them in the face.

Yes, you need a good connection though, otherwise the internet can eat your melee hits.

One of the most effective techniques, and I say this more as someone who has had it used against them than as someone who's mastered it, is to set fire to someone and then airblast them into a corner. If you can quick switch to your axe before they hit the ground, you can usually kill them just as they land before they start running away or shooting back.

I can usually pull it off against a cloaked spy I've ignited since there's no risk of them shooting back and they're not that fast, so that's a good way to practice it. It's a real bad idea to airblast a heavy and then go chase after him though.

If you're quick enough, you can also flaregun a heavy as you're running up to him and then switch to the axe to start wailing away on him. If you're lucky, they'll just assume some pyro is taking pot shots at them from a distance and won't expect the axtinguisher follow up.

I got killed by an overhealed (I guess) heavy after the flame and axetinguisher hit failed to kill him this very night. ;_;

Simply burning them then quickly getting the axe is dangerous though. You need to puff them after burning to make them very vulnerable.

I guess it depends on the heavy then. I just burned and puffed a heavy against a wall, and almost before he even hit the ground again, before my axe could barely come out, I think he turned around and killed my pyro from full health. Unless I missed the crit sound, that's scary. o_O

They do, but two axtinguisher hits is still faster than flaming a Heavy, which takes forever. That is its main use, but the Fireax is totally useless so it's still a no-brainer unlock.

So Ive had TF2 since launch and never really played it.... Now.. I have tons of time to actually play it :D So I have a question...

Is the community friendly... because I know if i start playing it Im going to suck horribly... I really wish there was a bot mode So I could get the hang of things first.

Is it too late to jump in as it is with Counterstrike source?

Wow . . . that airblast is powerful. It seems cheap that it doesn't extinguish the other team after you've lit them up. But I had fun blasting 3 people in a group off the edge of that mountain top level. :lol

On that payload race level, you can really get them stuck by having a pyro and an engie at that payload corner near the cliff right before the hill . . . sentry for shooting strays and pyro blows people off the cliff.

TF2's community is much better than Counter Strike's.

Just hop into a server. Don't bother with bots. >_> If you want, join one of those 32+ 2fort instant respawn clusterfucks, and start killing people by the dozen to get the hang of the game. Or join a real server and play as a medic to get used to it.

You're in luck; there is now a bot mode.

No, its just fine to jump in, I just did my self. Luckily the game is set up where no matter how hard you suck, you can't really bring down the team (Other then maybe taking up a player slot :lol)

I think both the reason why I enjoy TF2 so much, and it is so assailable is that it doesn't have a Team Death Match mode at all. Sure, there is the Arena, but thats still not near your standard team death match.

Also, maybe 100 other FPSs did it before, but I find Payload one of the most fun and unique modes of the game, its just great. Really hope they add more Payload race maps, since there is only 2 and only the new one, Hightower, is any good.
Pipeline sucks because the first two rounds are pointless to the final outcome, and its not that great to start with. You don't even blow anything up at the end!

Oddly enough, while Hightower seems to be designed to have super heavy combat at the crossing area at the start, it always seems to pass without a hitch. The ramp is where the real battle starts.

there is a bot mode. but dont worry, just play. no one will even know you're there failing.

Even as a newbie, you're a much greater asset to a team than those damn idlers.

The one aspect of TF2 that requires no learning curve at all is the fun factor. The mayhem, the taunts, the dialogue, the animations; TF2 can be quite enjoyable just as a spectator.

Oh man, I once had 11+ backstabs a year ago or so, using the scout disguise even :lol Even got it on video! That shit was good. Nowadays everyone is paying too much attention. And I need to record more stuff, but I keep forgetting.

People are way too spy check happy now, sometimes I see a pyro next to a dispenser just flaming the entire area so you can't pass, it get's my heart pumping like mad trying to pass :lol

Biggest problem is that as a spy you usually hold one unique gun in disguise, so that more or less makes some classes easy to spot as a spy, engineer imo is the worst one to use (but lately with so many engineers it's working well lol)

How in the fuck does this crafting stuff work? I haven't played this game in ages. Fun as fuck, but man I just want to get some new weapons. I'm missing so many!

Cant you change the gun you are "carrying" as a spy in disguise? I thought you could but I'm not a spy expert.

I pretty much play nothing but Payload. Badwater Basin is such an amazing map. Every single class is useful.

Also, play the game for like 5 hours a week and you'll get on average 3 random drops.

If you're missing a ton of items then your chances of getting something you don't already have should be pretty high.

It's hard to remember, as someone who's been playing since the Beta, that for people just starting now, the random drops aren't just a source of duplicates, but most will be new weapons to those people.

I can't wait for the polycount pack, not just because every class gets new gear but for a while sometimes you are the only one with a rare weapon due to the random drops and crafting, I like it.

I've picked up two Sanviches, a backburner, and 2 huntsmans. I had the first two from a long time ago.

=(

I don't know where you're getting this info from, but that's not in line with my experience at all; it seems based on random luck. I started playing exactly a month ago and after 10 drops half of them were Charge N'Targe's. FIVE OF THEM! After about 25-30 drops I've gotten 5+ Scottish Resistances as well, with countless other dup's of weapons I've unlocked through achievements. Yesterday I found the Force-A-Nature - the first scout unlock yet!

Yeah, I'm almost certain you can. I don't remember exactly how though.

Yeah, randomness can be a bitch sometimes. I've probably gotten every one of the Pyro's three original unlocks about six or seven times now...

"New unlock! Yes!" "You have found the Flare Gun" "fuuuuuuu..."

At least a dupe is 2.8% towards a new crafted hat!

And no matter how many sentry's and snipers there are the intel is always able to be captured by one person if they know what they are doing, I love teufort so much but it does get boring after a while.

I have yet to play it with the new engie update so I may have to test it out later with all the wrangle users :lol

You have to switch the weapon the spy is holding then renew your disguise to switch weapons. Here's how I have it set up. Quick Weapon Switch is G, Last Disguise is C. Let's say I want to be an Engi. The default disguise has you displaying a Shotgun (which not many Engis run around with) so I will switch my Spy's weapon to the Knife (using G), then hit "C" to refresh my disguise. To the enemy, my Engi switches from the Shotgun to the Wrench without any smoke or anything to show I'm a Spy. If I want to keep the disguise going, I just spam G then C over and over and over. It makes it look like I'm quick switching my weapons and increases the likely hood my disguise will be successful.

Charron said:
Press B. Or whatever you have "previous disguise" bound to.
Switch your weapon and press B (by default), your disguise weapon and your real weapon don't switch together, so you can have a sticky launcher out but have your knife, or bust out a knife while actually holding an ambassador, or something.
