The Aluminum Strip Under the Amiibo...

If you truely are looking at it as an investment then shouldn't you actually be happy its this way. It will make the amount of mint boxed amiibos rarer.

In the case of Skylanders/Infinity, is no issue since you need the portal and the figure on it to use them.

In this case, since most games will just unlock content, someone with a 3DS could walk by, unlock it and leave.

So, in that aspect makes sense.

Is there a rational reason as to why Nintendo put that strip underneath the figure so as to force consumers to open the packaging?

are you serious right now?

a rational reason?

how about a product that is sold to be used and not to be displayed?

seriously.
"force consumers" i mean come on.

Some people in this thread need to realise that for some of us, these products are long-term investements. Not toys, not gaming aids. This complain is valid.

If it's not a gaming aid for you, then complaining you can't use it as a gaming aid is a little bit contradictory, no?

There sure is a good reason, because once the New 3DS are out here, what's to stop people from just scanning the figure from the store? they won't need to buy it then!

It really is a nonsense issue. I collect many figures myself and I already understand why they need to do this. Many of the amiibo-supported games only them to be scanned once to unlock shit, it just make it easier for cheap people to not buy them at all if you could scan them inside stores, or for them to return it without having to keep it.

Just buy two if you're so bent out of shape about keeping one of them new in box.

It's really an untold horror of retail during the holidays. You hear complaints about customers, hours worked, and so on, but rarely is the stockroom brought up. It's completely packed. Boxes upon boxes haphazardly stacked one on top of another. "Clear areas" that are marked to be clear 24/7 are filled with overstock and returns.

It's a nightmare. Honestly I'd rather deal with shitty customers than sort through that disaster zone.
Worked at a Walmart during the holidays once. I didn't even work during December and it was a nightmare back there.

People saying "buy two" or "play with your toys":

I'll just buy figures that let me use them in the packaging. Like both of their competitors. Nintendo is the new dog in this arena and doing things like this isn't how you make a good name for yourself.

I can only imagine what would happen when 3DS Amiibo compatible games come out if they didn't have the strip.

"Hey let me just take my 3DS to Best Buy/Target/Walmart/etc and scan all 50 Amiibo's through the packaging without spending a single cent."

It'd get even worse when the n3DS comes out since you'd be able to scan right on the 3DS screen itself.

Lol and those packaged Disney and skylander toys will probably be worth less than an opened amiibo 20 years from now.

Sux4u m9 ure gonna miss out on teh amiibos now.

This is bullshit. I just bought Shnset Overdrive and installed it to my HDD to play, but it still needs the disc to start. Why? If it's instaled why can't I return the game to Best Buy and be on my way? Fucking Micrsoft.

They're selling a merchandise that is supposed to be opened and used and handled like the toys they are. Just like their competitors. All sensible people think like this and know that this is how these things are supposed to be used. You're the fucking anomaly here.

I'm good with this if it means that the amiibo I buy in the store hasn't been used and returned to the store or used in the store on someone's 3DS or something else awful.

One to go; one to show

You are ALWAYS supposed to buy two of everything

LOL do some of you have opened Lion King Platinum Editions without a backup unopened for when that market skyrockets in a few years? SMH

Ok, but you can't use those other figures in Nintendo games defeating your argument entirely. They made the figures to be used in their games. Yes you have to open the package to use them. The whole point of keeping them in the package for resale value is that they have never been used before. If you have stuff written to the product that you have sealed in the box, it isn't the same.

Wow, people are genuinely mad about having to open their Amiibos to use them? I thought I'd seen everything, but apparently not. It's like getting mad about having to open a game to actually play it. The nerve of these companies!

There's probably also concern with someone taking their 3DS to the store and scanning the Amiibo and then just walking out I guess.

If they're not toys or gaming aids to you then what's the problem?

this is the most ridiculous thing i've ever read.

if you want to invest in something, hit the stock market. the vast majority of people who buy these are going to either use them to scan things in their games or actually just play with cool figures.

If the last decade taught me anything, investing in amiibo will probably be safer than the stock market.

You should read this post out loud so you can hear how stupid it sounds.

Goodness me.

Paint, detail, figure quality, structures, pricing, and actual game utilization.

Paint, detail is your opinion. Figure quality is not up for discussion here because I guarantee you don't have one of these in yours hands yet. What is structures? Pricing is practically the same, and game utilisation is better in every way because you don't need amiibos to play games in the same vein as Disney Infinity or Skylanders.

If you're gonna be so hard to convince otherwise, don't buy them and stop shitting on them with bullshit, flat out incorrect nonsense.

Collectors have always, always bought two of something if they want one pristine.

It's like complaining that you can't play with a GI Joe because you'd have to remove it from the package. Well, yeah, no shit.

Yeah I have trouble finding any sympathy for the OP. Welcome to the world of collecting breh. It's an expensive hobby.

as many said the product could easily be used and returned... or in some cases just used.

as a whole the video game space is becoming a mine field with retailers and returns. certain consumers are looking for anything to profit from when it comes to returns of consoles/video games, retailers are increasingly getting pushier when it comes to policy and dealing with vendors on certain terms.

i've had communication floating around to start rejecting certain consoles being returned because retailers are seeing consumers purchase bundles to only sell download codes... they consider the product not being returned in "complete" if the codes are used.

I think this is just to prevent people to adding offensive info the the Retail Amiibos, remember you can name them and stuff like that.

If you just want to unlock free stuff you can just borrow a friends Amiibo, as simple as that. But if you want to use them in the box so YOU CAN RESALE THEM then no wonder Nintendo wouldn't let you, not because they are greedy (Maybe they are, maybe they are not, the are a company, who knows?) y, but because it goes against the point of the figurines: Collecting them and unlock stuff for different games, and since a lot of games are getting patched to support them... yeah, just remove the package and play with them. Or buy it, keep it in the package unused and sell it later, that is fine too.

Most of you people who planned on buying them are just going to buy them anyway.

Due to the New 3DS, there's really no way for Nintendo to not do this. It would have been really easy to just scan the amiibos on the New 3DS right there in the store, name them all "PENIS!!!!", and then freak out parents in your area without them knowing how that happened.

Probably because Skylanders require the figure to be present, while Amiibos do not.

I imagine a secondary bonus is nobody can troll Nintendo by going through the store with an NFC reader and making all the figures names "ButtFart McCheeks"

I've seen the amiibo display and the paint and detail were horrible even compared to the skylanders on the opposite shelf.

Sorry; if you want to collect AND play - buy two.

I have a sealed copy of Atari 2600 Pitfall as well as an opened one for example.

Although Pitfall isn't exactly rare by any means so the sealed copy isn't really worth much anyway.
