The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

So i tried the 1942 demo and it's alright. The hit detection is a mess but I've played BC before and the gunplay was tight so its all good.

They patched the full game to vastly improve the hit detection, so the demo is not a fair representation of the patched full game.

Where do I find the original versions of these vids on IGN?
I'm Insider but I don't see them anywhere.
I'd like to know this as well (Also an Insider). I often see videos uploaded somewhere and can never find them when I look for the originals.

man the game looks empty. 24 players is really gonna hurt this game.

I dunno, 24 player Warhawk matches always seem to turn out fine on even larger maps...time will tell, but I think it'll be just fine.

Especially since the action will focus on 5 specific targets of the map, and not a TDM type game, it should produce plenty of action. (probably why there is no death match). And when the dogfight map is opened, 24 planes in the air will be crazy.

But doesn't Warhawk have dedicated servers? (Does BF1943? Haven't seen anything about it)

Honestly, I don't think I ever played Battlefield with more than 24 players anyway. I don't think the limit will hurt it at all. I just can't wait to be back on Wake Island on Wednesday.

As I've said before, the team sizes in Bad Company where the same as they are in 1943, and the maps in BC are fucking huge, I would argue a couple actually seem larger than any of the three for 1943, and the games don't feel anywhere near like a wasteland. There's constant chatter going on telling you what the enemy team is doing, your team's progress, etc. The game always let you know when shit was going down.

On a side note; most of the gameplay demos I've seen feature people playing 1943 who clearly have never touched BC's multiplayer. Many of the outlets who did previews seemed to be going into it expecting an HD 1942. But everything I've seen thus far indicates to me that instead of this being 1942 with a better engine, it's actually alternatively a Bad Company texture pack.

I don't mean that in a bad way by any means, since I love Bad Company's multiplayer. But gameplay wise this definitely looks like it'll feel more like BC then 1942, which I don't think a lot of the reviewers expected (or even thought about).

Then again I may just be talking out of my ass :)

Yes, but in BF:BC there's only one target at all times in gold rush. I never played conquest mode (traditional BF gametype), but I heard it DID feel kind of empty.

That said, I used to play on a 32player Wake 24/7 server in BF2 and it never really felt empty, and I imagine a lot of those times I played it wasn't full.

I took those of the official forums. They had only the youtube links up.

I hate how you have to keep L3 pressed to sprint in the Bad Comany demo.

You could customize the controls.

My apologies if this has been asked already:

Will I be able to play this online with my old lady on the same ps3, similar to how we play halo 3?

Halo 3 on PS3 Confirmed! :lol :lol

I am not sure if 1943 has guest support, I really hope it does.

I haven't heard anything regarding that. I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Since BF:BC doesn't support guests and it's using the same engine my guess would be no.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. in BFBC, in rush mode, 12 on 12 works well. in conquest mode, it just doesn't work that well, except on ascension, which s a pretty small map.

Don't put your CC onto LIVE. It's such a hassle to remove and the infrastructure is set up to just take money out of it everytime you need to renew your subscription.

This misinformation needs to stop. You can remove your CC from xbox.com, so it's not a hassle at all.

But, yeah, buy your Gold subscription elsewhere (it's probably cheaper anyway).

EDGE gave it a 9/10 and it has Wake Island? This is going to be the best downloadable game since Bionic Commando Rearmed.

I am down for this. I have zero games to play right now so it's perfect timing. Now, if only Lucaspoocusarts announced a Tie Fighter remake for Xbox Live today it would be a pretty good day.

you can only remove a card if you have more than one on there.

when there is only one left, you can't remove it.

go ahead, try it.

Two more days right? Looking forward to my first arcade title.

you sir need to loosen your pockets! so many good games can be found off xbla. some are over priced, but you should definitely go shopping one day.

I hope the PS3 version doesn't suck. The XBOX 360 always gets the polished versions of games.

EA's multiplatform efforts have been pretty solid. I wouldn't be worried about the PSN version at all.

Can we talk about sharing PSN games on here? If so, I would be interested in splitting the cost among some other people (if it's even shareable). If this is not allowed, please advise and I'll remove my post.

what made you decide to get this on 360 over ps3? Not trying to start system warz, I only ask because it was either you who sent me a psn friend request or vice versa for this game.

Just a reminder to folks who haven't seen it, there is a thread for 1943 listing GAF XBL Tags and PSN ID's over in the online discussion forum.

Get in there and post your GT or ID and I'll promptly update the list. We're building quite a hefty community of GAFers for the game. :)

Many reasons. But I am 360 only for near future. Add TheInquistor on live, feel free to delete me off PSN for now.

Yeah saw that. I need to add some more GAFers when I get home. What is the friends list limit on Live?

wow, getting close now!

im pretty excited. Party Chat mode will be awesome for this game.

cant wait to get a good GAF squad going.

Battlefield really got it with the Battlefield theme. Gets you pumped up as hell. I've never really played BF games outside of the demo for Secret Weapons of WWII (Jetpacks were awesome, haha) but I'll definitely get this.

nice trailer. yes, awesome theme. got me pumped!

really? man, you missed out. :(

I just considered how awesome BF will be when pretty much everyone has a headset.

Excellent. I'm gonna need to play with GAF people though, I don't know how well the general XBL population will handle this.

i've played tons of BFBC on both platforms, and it's a pretty good port.

in fact, the sound on the ps3 version is fucking phenominal.

this is using the same engine.

then again, the PS3 version does freeze on occasion. maybe once every 20 hours (of gameplay) or so...

^This. That's all I wanted because anything above that is just stupid chaos. For one, you never get any of the vehicles come some jack ass would take a jeep by himself and end up driving it into the water and you'd have 10 guys waiting for 1 plane to spawn.

24 works because the action is centered on the flags. When a game on wake starts up the japs hold all the flags so its this crazy frantic fight to get on the island and start capping points. Just the same with 32 or more, but its just not such a cluster fuck with only 24. It would have been nice if they included more players, but you know, it's still a DL only game....

Depends on if they keep you to only 4 friggin' people again. That shit was so fucking annoying in BFBC thanks to everyone always being a sniping douche bag.

I think I recall them saying that in 43, the Cap points are all neutral at start up except for the teams starting point (similar to BC)

Really? That sort of changes things, lol. I always liked starting on the closest 2 points so i could get in the big guns on the ends of the island and blast anybody coming ashore. Oh well, that'll be interesting. I just hope there's plenty of jeeps around the air field on something like wake.

Larger and generally better online network?
Controller better suited to FPS games?

no, i was laughing because you're either going to play that awful single player demo, or be sitting there trying and failing to connect online since it's pretty much near impossible to play the demo online now, they must have like 1 demo server up...

He meant how you have to actually hold L3 to sprint. Its the same on 360 so its not about changing cunfiguration. Its about letting you click to run instead of hold to run(like KZ2 which is a bliss). Click to run should be mandatory to all future FPS games, seriously.
