The best love stories in gaming

First post nail it.

I want say Persona 2, but it's half-true. Eternal Punishment spoilers incoming
Ulala and Baofu relationship was hinted, but it was never confirmed. They have great chemistry each other so it's very likely they pursued the relationship.

Zidane and Garnet

I like Shulk and Fiora too

Shepard/Garrus

For all it's faults I enjoyed DA:I Female Eleven Inquisitor and Solas. Wouldn't call it the best but one of the more recent ones that I thought was kind of nice.

I'll wait and see how they manage to handle it in future games before I judge that. That's got big unfinished business, and with Quizzie going NPC they could really screw it up.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Prince of Persia 2008 reboot

Both tell essentially the same tragic story, and me being this hopeless romantic love those games.

WOLFENSTEIN The New Order

This is a really good one and one of the reasons I'm most excited about New Colossus. The fact that you get to
listen to audiotapes about her exploits before she met you is fantastic as well.

In terms of the best game at exploring an existing relationship, I'd have to go with Uncharted 4. Never seen a marriage be focused on in a game quite that way and it was genuinely touching.

I'm playing through Catherine right now so we'll see how that turns out but it's certainly interesting so far.

Fata Morgana or Deadly Premonition probably.

Most gaming love stories are pretty badly done.
Steins;Gate's was actually pretty good. Uncharted's was largely good, if sometimes frustrating in Uncharted 4.
Beyond that? I'm not sure. Tidus and Yuna? I feel like a good story has to make you feel something, and should make you root for it. Games are bad at that.

EDIT: the fact that a lot of answers are fan ineterpretations (Life is Strange) or joke posts kind of proves my point.

Games are real bad at romance.

? LiS has a real romance(s), depending on your in-game choices. Though I prefer it the friendship version myself and had Max kiss Warren.

Xenogears is the first thing that came to mind. The scope of Fei and Elly's relationship really surprised me and won me over.

I haven't finished it but there's evidently no romance in 2 since they didn't want the only female character in a relationship with the PC—which I respect—especially after how they treated women in the first game. However, Marcus and Sitara have such good chemistry that I'm just going to assume they got it on post-game.

Agree with all the Nate and Elena posts jere, and that's mainly basing it upon Uncharted 4. 2 and 3 had the relationship as an okay backdrop but 4 got me super invested over the course of that game. That or I've become more of a sap as I got older.

I don't care what anyone says, I really enjoyed the love stories in FFVIII/IX/X.

IX's probably holds up best on repeat viewings.

I sort of agree. Although, Life is Strange is probably more than a fan interpretation, despite the optional romance storyline being one of the worst parts of an otherwise exceptional game.

Nah, the relationship was a bit more "real" in 4.

Steiner and Beatrix from FFIX. beautiful behind the scenes romance.

This so much.

In fact, FFIX in general. Everything is so damn beautifully tragic!

"What irony. To find the man about whom I have dreamt endlessly... only to discover that he cannot even remember who I am!"

Much as I love the game & like the two, Squall & Rinoa's relationship was more "cute" than anything; the actual emotionally moving relationship in FFVIII was
Laguna & Raine. And it all pretty much comes down to that beautiful ending scene.

It's Shadow of the Colossus. Love that will stop at nothing... to overcome and succumb. A tale for the ages that renders love transcendent.

Fair view. For me even if what comes after is garbage I won't be that affected.
Because honestly I can see the Trespasser ending as a good ending point to that story.
Basically it wasn't meant to be between the two.
That felt like a good and fitting ending for me, even if they decide to continue it in a meaningful way or let it be something that slides into the background.
