The biggest selling game of the fall will be...

Everyone agrees that it will be Modern Warfare 2, right?
No, I don't. MW2 will launch alongside OSTD and I expect people buying one or the other in 360, at least the firsts months.

As I said, you are all underestimating the "niche" market of SC2.

Its disappointing and worrying seeing no Uncharted 2 on that list. Was this poll based on pre-made choices by any chance?

Biggest sellers will definitely be Halo ODST & MW2.

Oh and its kinda cute how Activision wants to let Modern Warfare 2 into a new franchise of its own. They're evidently trying to push it of the CoD title and spring a series on its own. :lol

Agreed. Uncharted 2 deserves more attention. But as far as sales go it will probably get killed.

1) MW2 (multiplatform)
2) Halo ODST
3) StarCraft II
4) New Super Mario
5) Wii Something...

MW2 will do insanely well, probably that.
Assassin's Creed 2 will also do great numbers this holiday.
Halo ODST I suspect won't even approach the kind of popularity the other three have, but still maybe 2.5/3 million units.

While I have no doubt that the 360 version of Modern Warfare will outsell ODST on its own, I think that ODST will also do really well. If Halo Wars can push close to or over a million units in the US alone, ODST should sell more than 4 million copies, worldwide.

I agree that Assassin's Creed 2 is going to be huge. I expect the PS3 SKU to be the second best selling game of the year on the console, behind Modern Warfare 2. This is, of course, assuming that Gran Turismo 5 doesn't sneak into 2009.

How well do you guys think the Grand Theft Auto pack will sell?

It's not surprising that the PS3 version of FFXIII is higher on the list than the 360 version, but I wonder if that'll hold true for multiplatform users. I fully intend to buy the game, but I haven't really made a decision on the platform because it's too early to know which version will be superior in terms of overall features/moneyhat shenanigans.

It does release a month before all those, at least they didn't repeat the mistake from last time.

That's a deciding factor in deciding purchases? smh

Worldwide the PS3 version is obviously going to sell more, it's exclusive in Japan where it'll sell a lot. In North America the 360 version will probably perform better. Personally even if I still had a 360 I'd be getting it on PS3 because of the chance of interactivity with the Sony exclusive other FFXIIIs.

Modern Warfare 2. With the hype around the preorder bonus and the amazingly awesome graphics, I think this game will be the one to get this holiday season.

See you guys online!

It'll easily be Modern Warfare 2 combined. ODST MIGHT win for best single SKU over MW2 360.

If you think that ODST is going to outsell New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Fit Plus this holiday season, you need your head checked. I honestly don't expect ODST to be in top 5 sales for all of 2009 when all is said and done. (The previous statement does not apply if Fit Plus does not come out this year, but it will. It applies moreso if StarCraft II comes out this year.)

It becomes a lot more fair when we start only talking about games released this fall, because you just know some evergreen, 2-year-plus DS title (I'm looking at you, Mario Kart) is going to sneak into the top 10 for the year.

Call it:
1. Modern Warfare 2 (all systems, all SKUs combined)
2. Wii Sports Resort
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
4. StarCraft II
5. Wii Fit Plus

Hey now, I'll jump in with my 1st post.....

I work for a "major video game retailer" who just won't STOP selling those GAMEs, so I can share a little insight as to what people are excited about, at last in my store/area.

Now, this is just my store and the surrounding stores in a ghettoish area, but going from pre order activity and customer interest.......

MW2 is going to be tops. No doubt about it. On Ps3, nothing even comes close. No one seems to care about Uncharted or GT5. (that's sad).

ODST will do great, but I get a lot of "This aint not going to be no Halo Wars shit?" questions. about it.......

Lots of interest in NSMB Wii and Wii Sports Resort, but not a lot of reserves on them. It really depends on Nintendos ability/want to send full restocks on the games and not have a Wii Fit/Mario Kart situation.

Rock Band: Beatles has parents saying "wow, neat!" and kids saying "lol wut, old people". More interest in Band Hero (I swear and its sickening). No interest at all in GH5.

PSP...lol :lol I'm sure Need for Speed Carbon and Liberty City Stories will continue to sell and sell and sell and whatever 40$ game comes out will not.

How the hell is New Super Mario Bros. Wii so high on there. It looks awful. I don't understand how anyone can say it will sell more than ODST. Hasn't Halo 3 outsold Mario Galaxy?

Btw, the value of ODST to every Halo fan isn't so cut and dry. Not everyone owns the Legendary map pack. Not everyone owns the recent Mythic map pack... I don't and I usually buy them. No one owns the next three maps yet either, so that's potentially 3-9 new maps plus a new campaign, a new multiplayer mode, and... THE ONLY WAY TO GET INTO THE HALO Reach beta. That right there is huge and people don't seem to be making a point of it. That's an entirely new FPS.

I can believe this, I think The Beatles : Rock Band is not the sure fire hit people think. It's coming out the same day the remastered Beatles stuff is. So as a Beatles fan, I've got to buy the stereo boxset for ÂŁ160 and the mono boxset for ÂŁ200, I can't really stretch to the game, and I think that's true of a lot of Beatles fans, the music is the priority over the game.

The DS game is the highest-selling single SKU (so, not like how Pokemon is, split into two or three games) of a nonbundled game. The previous record-holder was Super Mario Bros. 3.
It looks awful.
I hate non-cel-shaded polygons in a 3D sidescroller too, but the game itself is pretty awesome. The level design is great, and the multiplayer rocks.

ODST will do really well, but I think people will see it as a spinoff, and probably not zerg rush it as much as they will Halo Reach. NSMB Wii is a new 2D Mario that you can play like the old Marios (turning the controller sideways and playing it like the NES), and it has the local multiplayer aspect that made games like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports huge. It won't sell the most during the holidays, but it'll probably have the best legs.

In the States, I think so. Worldwide, they're pretty much even.

I have a feeling Assassins Creed 2 will do surprisingly worst than expected. I'll be picking it up in 2010, 2009 is just too jam packed for my wallet and spare time. I think many feel the same.

Wait, isnt that new GTA: Chinatown Wars coming out this fall for the PSP? No one is preordering that, or is it just not available?

It's just a running joke around our district/store that even if Sony released a game for PSP that came with a free blowjob from Megan Fox, people would walk right by it and still buy Need for Speed:Carbon and GTA: Liberty City Stories.

Starcraft is big, sure, especially in Korea. But look at the lifetime sales: Starcraft has been out for 11 years and sold about 11 million copies last I heard.

COD4 hasn't even been out 2 years and its sold over 14 million copies. Pretty easy to see which one is the bigger franchise, especially since COD is riding a recent popularity wave, while Starcraft's popularity might have waned over the years. (can't necessarily count on South Korea being as big a fan of the second as they were of the first?)

MW2 >> Halo ODST > Everything else

My order of anticipation

Splinter Cell > Assasins Creed > Uncharted 2 >>>> Halo

Im buying all games mentioned above. (Staying the hell away from COD games though)

Maybe in the US, but in Europe I could see AC2 giving MW2 a run for its money although MW2 will win after all. AC2 should beat ODST though over here. Also, nobody should underestimate Fifa 10 worldwide.

I doubt AC2 will beat MW2 or ODST in either Europe or NA. It'll still do high numbers though but possibly less than the first. Also isn't Fifa mostly popular in Europe or do people like football over in NA?

new super mario bros

why..?

because NSMB sold about 20 million units

except it did not

COD 4 sold about 7 to 8 million units on 360 and 4 to 5 million units on the PS3.. the 14 million units is probably a shipment number

plus starcraft (which isnt really comparable.. being an RTS which is still a minor genre) did not wane in popularity.. the game never had a sequel..

both wii fit and mario kart wii outsold COD4 easily... are you saying NSMB and Wii Sports Resort will outsell MW2 easily..?
