The biggest selling game of the fall will be...

'Splosion Man. :D

I think the main fight is between MW2, AC2, HALO and New Super Mario Bros Wii. L4D2 will sell a huge amount too.

ODST doesn't stand a chance at the top spot.

It'll be between Modern Warfare 2 and whatever Wii title takes off the most at the time.

Even at the new stupid UK price, I know everyone (especially the kiddies) will get snapping MW2 up. I'll just be sticking with ODST though and like said earlier - I feel it will 'win' on single console sales.

Wii Fit Plus, MW2, New Super Mario, Halo ODST.

Never underestimate the thick-thighed 35 year old soccer mom.

Wii Fit Plus will probably be on the low end of that during the holidays. It'll probably have long legs though.

Fucking mainstream, where is Forza 3 and Uncharted 2 on that list?

Does the PS3 even have the hardware number to make any game thee #1 seller? In all honesty I don't think they can make a number #3 seller when it comes down to it.

I can see a Wii game taking the number 1 spot, when Nintendo hits that spot with casuals, there is no stopping them.

MW2(PS360PC)

except it did not

COD 4 sold about 7 to 8 million units on 360 and 4 to 5 million units on the PS3.. the 14 million units is probably a shipment number

8 + 5 = 13, not that far off

so...it probably sold 14million

Halo ODST looks like rubbish yet it's the most wanted? Such lemmings. MW2 is going to be enormous without question.

Hit LT to move the pick ax up!
Hit RT to move the pick ax up!

How exactly can you say Halo looks like rubbish when it's a 5-6 hour game, when MW2 is in the same exact setting (even less so given Halo doesn't have you playing as Master Chief).

If you think that ODST is going to outsell New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Fit Plus this holiday season, you need your head checked. I honestly don't expect ODST to be in top 5 sales for all of 2009 when all is said and done. (The previous statement does not apply if Fit Plus does not come out this year, but it will. It applies moreso if StarCraft II comes out this year.)

It becomes a lot more fair when we start only talking about games released this fall, because you just know some evergreen, 2-year-plus DS title (I'm looking at you, Mario Kart) is going to sneak into the top 10 for the year.

Call it:
1. Modern Warfare 2 (all systems, all SKUs combined)
2. Wii Sports Resort
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
4. StarCraft II
5. Wii Fit Plus

I think you're completely overestimating how much NSMB, Resort, and Wii Fit Plus will sell in there first few months. I have no doubt they'll all easily outsell ODST eventually but ODST is going to have an absolute enormous rush factor like all Halo games.

I'm going to guess MW2. I have no doubt that Wii Sports Resort, NSMB Wii, and Wii Fit Plus will all have longer legs than MW2, but we all know that games like COD have very front loaded sales.

2D Mario sells well immediately too. Also, the Wii has a larger install base, and NSMB's a local multiplayer game just like all of the other extremely popular Wii games. I can see it selling a lot quickly.

I agree with you as far as Wii Sports Resort goes, but mainly because it's coming out in the summer first (the Fall sales should be about the same as the summer or a little lower).
I think Wii Fit + will do really well too because it'll be $30 or less and a TON of people bought Wii Fit. They'll both be more 'long legs' type sellers though.

I think the most obvious answer is Modern Warfare 2, but this is a rough one. Life time sales might be a different story, but speaking solely for this year, probably MW2.

This. Whatever the big Wii game is will be the top single SKU but MW2 across three platforms is going to be massive.

That doesn't even make any sense.

MW2 is a new campaign and a new multi player game. ODST is a campaign, a horde ripoff, and Halo 3 multiplayer + three new maps.

Do you actually know what "setting" means?

It has Halo in the title. + it looks great + It has a beta code for the upcoming main halo game.

This exactly. There are lots of Halo Fans who will buy Halo anything. MW2 will still be a close second I think, but I think that Halo attracts a lot of people that may not like COD. To me, Halo's a system seller. Bungie really has nothing left to prove in my opinion.

Edit:

That being said, MW2 is multi-platform, so it should be interesting.

Both have new campaigns (of similar length), both will have co-op (length of COD co-op is unsure), both have new multiplayer modes (COD will have more maps, but beyond that it will be much like 4).

To say Modern Warfare trumps ODST in features (ala calling it rubbish in comparison) is just trolling.

I'll put my money on New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

If Nintendo markets this one (...) than it'll easily outsell the DS version, which is pretty significant.

Though I hear Modern Warfare 1 sold pretty darn well, so MW2 could easily top Mario, especially considering it's multiplatform.

Definitely true. As hype for Halo: Reach builds, so will sales of ODST, I would assume (giving it pretty long legs too). This combined with a few months of additional sales MIGHT push ODST ahead of MW2 on 360 for the fall.

I don't think it will sell close to MW2 sales but it's gonna have really good sales, heck I will be buying it because I love the horde type modes that it will include plus they are an alright multiplayer game.

If we split by SKU, then my predictions for Fall '09:

1) Halo ODST (360)
2) Modern Warfare 2 (360)
3) New Super Mario Bros. (Wii)
4) Modern Warfare 2 (PS3)
5) Assassin's Creed 2 (360)
6) Splinter Cell: Conviction (360) -- The darkhorse candidate... if it gets great reviews I think the 360 user base will eat it up.

I think ODST beating out MW2 on 360 is a reasonale conclusion to draw, primarily because it will have a two month head start and it's packing the Halo: Reach beta. Also, MW2, while clearly the biggest name in November, will face stronger competition at release in its target audience from AC2 and the 360-exclusive (on console, at least) SC: Conviction. This likely won't hurt it too badly, but I think this combines to give ODST the edge if we're only talking about single SKU sales.

Surprised God of War III is that high. I really want that game. Also did not know they re-added the "Call of Duty" moniker.

MW2 is going tear shit up. I also expect it to have pretty good legs like COD4 and WAW. I do hope that SC:C sells well though, game looks totally worth it.

It'll be close but I might give the edge to ODST for the early sales on the 360. After the Reach beta has come and MW2 will definitely catch up on sales if it hasn't already but the ODST launch will be pretty crazy. What'll the 360 install base be at the end of September? Around 30 million? And it was only about 12 million November 07 but Halo 3 pushed out over 2.5 million in its first week.

Of course ODST is more of an expansion but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it breaks Halo 3's record.

Meh, probably nothing I'll play... 'cept maybe NSMB Wii, if we take into account Japanese sales as well.

Keep in mind that OTX is new to game tracking and has zero track record of accurately predicting demand ahead of time. Check out their pre-E3 rankings here. They have Guitar Hero On Tour Modern Hits just below Sims 3. They have titles ranked that didn't even chart in the June NPD top 20 like Smash Hits Wii (#15), Smash Hits 360 (#20) and Rock Band Unplugged (#24) while the #1 game of June (Prototype 360) isn't even on the list.

I wonder how well Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort will perform. I'll be surprised if they don't appear in the top 10. Yes, even though WSR is about to come out.

If it isn't MW2 I'll be surprised. Wii Fit+, Wii Sports Resort, and the Mario games will probably out do MW2 LTD, but considering how front loaded shooters seem to be it has to be MW2 across the three platforms.

Uhhh yeah, moving right along.

There really hasn't been that much hype surrounding ODST so far. Do you think MS will push it like Halo 3 or just let it spread by word of mouth?

I don't think we have to worry about MS messing up the ODST launch, they got game as far as marketing is concerned. Usually they go into hypedrive relatively close to launch.

With the beta key they have two chances of getting a sale. I suppose they may put more emphasis on the beta in internet channels and push the game for regular 360 FPS players with commercials/ads.
