Technical notes

The game will feature high-definition graphics, and will be fully 3D, although the combat takes place on a 2D plane.

Production notes

The game features an original music score by Norihiko Hibino

Xbox.com Info
In a parallel world reminiscent of our own WW II era, pilots take to the skies with stylized aircraft carriers and devastating weaponry. Inspired by the popular eighties arcade series, 1942: Joint Strike combines classic top-down vertical shooting with updated 3-D HD graphics.

Take on massive waves of incoming enemies while dodging explosions and missiles, as you face off with huge enemy bosses in death-defying dogfights. Recruit a wingman locally or online to pull off new "Joint Strike" attacks, combining the powers of both aircraft in one explosive barrage. With new weapons and power-ups in your arsenal, prepare to rejoin the battle!

* Updated classic: Experience classic arcade style gameplay with 3-D hi-def graphics.
* Co-op play: Team up for new Joint Strike attacks, weapons, and power ups. Use your wingman for two-player local or online missions.

Special Feature: Play 1943: Battle of Midway for free in your browser.

(Note: requires Internet Explorer to run)

I'm a huge fan of this series but the graphics look wrong. Should have gone high detail sprite instead of this ugly bloomy 3D. I'm not even sure I can make out the morass of Zero fighters with a brown chassis paint with the dull brown islands and water below.

I'm a little worried about how long it's going to be, but the (very) brief chance I got to play it, tells me all I need to know, it feels like 1942

I'm guessing this'll be like commando 3 where it's fun enough, but has an overall 'hollow' feeling.

OP Updated with a special feature, the ability to play 1943: Battle for Midway in your Web Browser for free via Gametap, it should be noted that the deal only runs in IE.

Capcom's doing all the right things with their classics. Man, if only they print them all on a disc - Capcom Digital Classics - SSF2HD Remix, Bionic Commando Recarmed and 1942: Joint Strike!

Considering it's from Backbone Entertainment who also brought us the crap that's called WOTB: Commando 3 (most disappointing game this year by far IMO) and the whole SSF2THD beta fiasco I don't expect much...I won't even bother trying the demo.

yup yup!!

I bought a PS3 for MGS4, it was a fantastic game!

other than that every PS3 game I play sucks!! I went back to playing Dreamcast...

but this game gives my PS3 a 2nd chance!!!

I only hope it does something special to exceed 19XX and Aero Fighters... otherwise it'll suck!!

PS3 has no games. Thanks for letting us know.

This 1942 looks crap. I will stick to the original unless the demo blows me away.

This one looks absolutely dreadful, No character and no vibrancy. How are you supposed to see what going on when the vehicles background and bullets are all brown and muddy.

Absolutely retarted design decision.

Capcom need to stop farming out franchises to crap lazy American developers.

Exact same thoughts here. Looks like they're rushing to pull out more and more remakes without giving the proper attention IMHO

They should just absorb G.rev. Under Defeat was the shit.

Really not sure if I want this. I spent way too much money at the arcades with the originals not to be interested, but the art direction leaves me flat. I think the 3d is fine, but give me some vibrancy, or something.

The screen is going the wrong direction.

Vertical shooter in widescreen? needs tate mode.

I know where you're coming from, but it could be nice to have a widescreen shooter. If they've designed the game around that it's a plus in my book. Can't exactly 'tate a 37" LCD HDTV.

I'll definately give it a shot, unless things go horribly wrong chances are I'll spring for the full version.

This looks terrible and doesn't have any of the charm (graphically) of the old games. Hopefully it plays better than it looks.
Actually Commando 3 looked pretty assy as well. Capcom should take a bit more care with these HD sequels to old franchises.

Its actually pretty fun, its not a great game, but it still manages to be fun. Its easier then the Japanese shooters though.

Commando3 was decent, and this looks decent too. $10 isn't such a bad deal. I don't buy retro games, so a remake of a retro game will suffice. I'm more interested in BC:R though. PEACE.

Damn i used to love this game as a kid but dont know if i will take the plunge on this. Only if i could trade aegis wing and timepilot and get this for 5 bucks it would be day one.

This is the first time I've seen this game. Why, oh why, did they go with the horrible current gen trends? This looks so fug. They've ruined my memories.

I have literally zero faith in this. Especially after Commandos. These guys are just totally unfamiliar with the genres they're trying to work in.

Can't really help but check out the trial for shits, though.

Not a fan of the gaussian blur, also why would they dim out the bullets and the explosions? Makes no sense. The water and the european street road rendering looks very neat.

I have some faith. I loved the original(s) and gamesTM gave it 8/10 (while they gave Commando 3, which I didn't like, 5/10).

I love an official thread where people with no interest in the game just to come in here and share their useless opinions about a game they don't like. Bravo gentlemen.

I used to love the old arcades of this, blew a lot of quarters. Can't wait to pick this up on the XBLA. Just wish they'd hurry up and release BC Rearmed.
