The Darkness: The Official Thread

i apologise for my part in that. i was just commenting on the video that IGN put up that someone wanted commenting on, and correcting a person that claimed that it just showed the 360 version, and another that was insisting that both versions had motion blur.

system wars are stupid.

Hi, anyone with an SDTV here? I'd love to know what the street signs and maps are like in SD. They are a pretty important part of the game and if they are undreadable, thats gonna be a bitch.

Might as well top off every thread about multiplatform titles with that quote.

GAF use to not be so extreme. WTF happen? Now days its like throwing french fry in a crowd a seagulls. Just a bunch of bird brains grasping at what ever anyone throws out there. /sad

anyway ..
They both are the same. Only difference is the 360 has better AA but its not perfect and to me the colors in the ps3 version are better on my tv but that can be adjusted. Frame is better on the 360 but IGN used the one place that really bogs down in the ps3 version. The whole motion blur thing is BS. I haven't even tried MP on either version yet but I expect it to be better on XBL as usual because of the whole better set for inviting friends and all that.

Final thoughts: 360 is a bit better because of better AA and frame rate but its not enough to make a difference over all. Its an awesome game and everyone should give it a play through.

it sure did. really moody, really creepy. even a bit of touching moments. but the best part of it was what it led up to. OMG> :O

I really need to break my habit of highlighting spoilers for games I haven't finished yet. :(

An aside to everybody else: Remember to wear a spoiler before you post.

If you play drunk, there's motion blur on both consoles. And it doesn't take any cycles or whatever.

Besides the ability to eat hearts, every game needs butthole fishhooking. Zelda on the Wii should have butthole fishhooking . . . what a great use for the Wii-mote!

Edit: Oh, BTW, thanks for being very respectful and using the spoiler tags guys. I've got too much work right now to play this game right now so appreciate not having it spoiled. :D Hey, what happened to the normal smiley? we are down to 2 smilies now?

Last night I about wee'd myself during the loading screen when boarding a subway train.

Jackie did a bit of reflecting.

I had my first kiss here. Candy the hooker. She closed her legs and broke my sunglasses. Good times...

:lol

Quit ruining the thread with the endless PS3/360 comparisons. The consensus is that it is slightly better on the 360, but it's essentially the same game so quit the whining.

There have only been about 10 posts regarding the actual content of the game on the last few pages.

And it appeared to have settled...

Until your ironic comment.

My apologies.

I honestly didn't think that was a spoiler though. It's been known that the main character tells random stories during the loading screens.

Best loading scenes ever.

If they had just made them a little longer, you wouldn't even have to know they were loading screens. There's probably a technical reason why they aren't.

Gameplay.

I am going to play this at my friends PS3 this weekend :D

btw got 8.75 8.75 reviews from game informer

I really want a PS3, I could give a shit about the graphical differences...

The multiplayer is really bad. Sloppy animation, hard to tell if you've hit the other guy, weapons are all way too powerful(I killed someone with the shotgun from across the hall in one of the CTF maps and pistol headshotting is way too easy) I'll play it to gather a few more achievements I guess but yikes it's terrible.

Singleplayer is fabulous of course.

something really weird is happening with me and this game. i really enjoy doing the side missions, despite the fact that (as several reviews have noted) there's not much incentive to do them. i've always been a staunch disparager of sandbox games--particularly gta--but the darkness proves that i actually can enjoy traveling in a city and helping people. helping being the operative word, i guess, since most of the time you're helping by murdering.

but whatever. it's just sort of bizarre to be playing something that does have some degree of sandbox-lite, and to enjoy it.

Yeah, but that dude stole that other dude's
harmonica
. He and all of his friends deserved to die and have their hearts ripped from their chest cavities.

:lol

he pulled heat first.

i got mugged right before that, and again, the solution was ramming a pointy tentacle through his chest cavity and slamming him into a brick wall

Right near the beginning of the game:

Coming out of Jenny's house, I heard these guys picking on this other guy, asking him questions like, "Where's Jackie?!" "You know where the hell he is, TELL US!" Well I walk around the corner and see these two guys with guns and the other guy is on his knees. So I sneak up behind them and execute them both. It felt so good. I felt like a real comic book 'hero' and a badass at the same time. So awesome!!!
:D :D :D

I cant even find a game on the ps3 version.

I love it so far.. Only complaints.. wow this must be the jaggiest PS3 game I own, VERY jaggy. Starbreeze -1 Also, the fps drops here and there, but overall pretty steady.

Gameplay otoh rocks.. It gives me the same feeling I get when I play God of War, aka being a badass for killing someone in the most badass way possible. :D

i just beat the game, so time for my mini-review/thoughts

like riddick, the presentation is incredible. for me, presentation in a game goes a long way towards my overall enjoyment, and the darkness just oozed cool. from
the british soilder taking his own life, to the darkness holding jackie back from saving jenny, and probably craziest of all, the torture scene with the drill.
the voice acting was great, the story compelling, and the darkness powers were a lot of fun.

on the downside, the game did have some glitches that marred my experience a bit. i twice had to restart from a checkpoint simple because certain game triggers wouldnt activate. also, many times objects would get knocked in your way and you couldnt just go over them or move them by walking, but physically had to manipulate them to get around. not a big deal, but it was a pain getting hung up on objects like that, especially as the creep. a lot of the gameplay also didnt feel completely fleshed out, the darklings in particular were really dumb and a missed opportunity for some cool elements IMO.

all in all, i really really enjoyed it. definitely one of those games were the sum is greater then the individual parts. its a flawed game, but cool, engaging, and engrossing all at the same time.

and for the record, i definitely enjoyed it more then riddick (which i also loved)

Only games I've ever found were TeamDM, and after a few minutes at most all became laggy and unplayable. No way to see all game types or anything like that I can find in the poor lobby setup, when I search for TeamDM it just kept throwing me into a game so I'm assuming it was the only match going on at the time last night.

That's a good point. I notice one review, I think it was Gamespot, said that this was a valiant first experience. I imagine they could take the second game and improve on this one and it would be so much better. Johnny needs to move a little faster than what he does now an dthe darklings need to have more of a purpose. Like I said earlier, I spawned them just to hear them make their one-liners.

Spoiler question:

Is Jenny truly dead or does she come back later?

Halp! I'm stuck. :(

In the ww1 setting,
I'm lost in the Hills... there's a house in front of me but every time I try to go somewhere there's a lightning and it bring me back in front of the house...

Did you get the Darkness Guns already? If so, then just head back to Anthony at the village

You are looking for a dude dangling from a cross. Coming from the entrance to the Hills, you head in a Northeasternly direction from what I recall. You sort of climb up over a hill and you will see the cross.

I think
you can only see the guy on the cross with darkness vision. The cross just looks like a tree without it IIRC.

HA...HA...HA :lol

Sorry...at least I'm not the only one that had this problem. You have to turn on your Darkness powers and go to the top of the hill. If you don't have your darkness powers on at the time, you'll wander around FOREVER. Trust me, it took me three hours to figure that out.

did anyone do all the side missions for mortarello (or whatever)?
i'm on the last hit in gunhill, and i can't find this punk. they say he should be up high?

Send Crawling Darkness up the building opposite the door where good old Abe Hunter is sitting, the mark is in an apartment watching two monitors

I didnt know the Mike Patton the voiced the Darkness was THE Mike Patton. Thats pretty cool.

It's interesting to note that his voice wasn't altered. He's doing that voice completely on his own.

That's amazing. I think his voice has woken up my neighbors more than once. I altered the LFE settings so that when you hear the Darkness, you FEEL the Darkness :D
