The Elder Scrolls Online - Freedom and Choice trailer

How long does it take to do the main quest and the guilds? Do you get good loot from it? Do unique items exist? Thanks.

This is a bit....worrying for me. A bunch of friends of mine are getting the game and ideally we would like to play together as much as possible.

Are you able to play the main quest / guild quests with friends at all?

Yes you can. Me and my Wife have been playing together for some time through the content. While you can Solo it, there are some areas/bosses that are tough as nails and depending on class, you will have a hard time. I have an alternate that I play mainly Solo, but I do ask for help when needed.

It is a fun game to group with people, especially the dungeons etc. Like I said, you can do a lot of the game with a group or solo. What I have been finding is that eventually your friends are going to want to play when you or other friends are not available and then you will have them doing content that you have not, which in itself is not bad, they would just be along for the ride if they join you on the same content.

But then there is the crafting professions to work on, gathering materials, there are hidden treasure maps that you find etc. that a lot to the game. There are Lore Books to find, Sky Shards etc. There is a lot to do in the game. Sometimes I log on and all I do is go on gathering runs for materials (Wood, Metal etc.) and doing research to build more and better items.

I played this on PC for a while and I thought you could invite friends into main / Guild quests? Am I mis remembering? I know randoms won't show up but I could swear I grouped with friends to take down a boss I was stuck on

A very long time. And yes, through out the main story quest, you get rewarded some good loot/gold etc. But there is so much more than the main quest, I have done some side quests that rival some of the best parts of the main quest.

No, you memory is fine my friend. You can invite friends to help out on quests. They also introduced Solo instances for some of the quests where it will scale to your level, this was mainly done for people that were going solo. In a group, these instances will scale to the highest level person in the group.

Ya I would agree. The games overall world and questing are actually fantastic and the console beta played remarkably well.

You're going to find yourself separated from your friends a lot because you'll repeatedly be phased into solo instances to do stuff like fight bosses at the climax of a quest line. It's really annoying and one of my most hated aspects of modern MMO design.

No, they are 100% solo. This is not the MMO to get if you want to play through it with your friends.

Not to be a dick, but you really need to stop posting FUD every time you post. Me and my wife have been playing together for while and we both go grab the same quests and do the quests together. There are times, where we have to do things on our own, but the majority of the content we have been playing it together.

I am not sure what you are doing or trying to do, but you are providing mis-information to people that can lead to some questioning the game. Again, as I stated before, if you are not sure about someone's question, don't answer if you don't know. The worst thing that is happening is that you are giving people wrong information about the game.

What is endgame like? Is it raiding?

I kind of like grindy-type end game for progression. (I know, Im weird).

I am really loving Destiny, just wish there was more end game PvE raids.

Is the only way to play as an imperial still going to be the Imperial edition or whatever? Kinda want to dip my toes in on PS4 with the regular edition but would like the option to play as an imperial at some point. Can you upgrade later in the ingame store or just buy that race separately? Thanks.

What do you folks think will be the best way to start the Guild Threads? We have the two platforms, 3 if you want to add in the PC version. So would we have a PS4 NA Guild, PS4 EU Guild, Xbox One NA Guild, Xbox One EU guild?

It just seems that if we are going to have a GAF guild, we need to figure out how we will organize things here. Should we just make a generic thread and people can post what guild they want to join ala the "PS4/Xbox One Gamer Tag" threads?

Yes you can. You can buy the upgrade in the Crown Store, which then opens it up to the Imperial Edition. Next time I log on to the PC version I will let you know what the price is, but it is definitely something you can do.

Awesome, thanks! I might just jump on it to start since the digital imperial ed. is $70 for PS+ pre-orders but it's nice to know that its an option (especially if the price isn't punitive in nature for not getting it from the outset).

Been playing this game since early March almost every day. Here are my entirely positive remarks.

Please buy this game guys, the reviews it got at its launch are not even relevant anymore. PC version will be superior to console just because of the amazing addons that add so much to the game. The game has a Skyrim feel to it, but with better graphics and animations than Skyrim IMO. It also has a SHIT TON of lore if you're into that, as well as fun crafting, instances, quests, and the PvP in Cyrodiil is amazing when you're either in a zerg rush with 30+ people or are ganking dudes running into battle on the main roads.

The combat in this game is nothing like regular MMOs; it's not cookie cutter builds. I can be a sorcerer using a one handed weapon and shield, or a nightblade with a restoration staff. When I'm hitting an enemy with a sword or spell, it actually feels like I'm smacking them as opposed to when I played FFXIV it felt like I was throwing balls of air at people ( just my opinion (; ). There are a lot of different builds for both PvE and PvP, and the community is fairly welcoming and helpful. Guilds are fun and a lot of them are quite active. There are trading guilds that focus on making sales with their vendors in major cities, PvE guilds that focus on finishing weekly dungeons and getting armor and rankings and finally PvP guilds that usually have teamspeak servers and play in Cyrodiil for PvP points, set gear and rankings as well.

The crown store is the games pay to x hub where you can buy cosmetics, crafting sets, ring to get married and get more xp with your partner (!!), and much much more. It's all optional and isn't really pay to win at all. Mounts are bought with either crown points or gold, and once you have a mount it is account wide available. There's so much more I could talk about but I feel as if I've gotten my opinion across :)

tldr; This game is amazing.

Sounds more like what I'm used to when I played FFXIV

Any non-instanced stuff can be done cooperatively, along with the dungeons and PvP. While I like the game in many ways, the logic behind how grouping works is pretty poor, IMO.

In fairness, most of the game content (90%) can be played grouped. There's a strong main story and guild quest lines (example; you go to The Shivering Isles with the Mages Guild) which is single player only. The rest can be grouped if you want.

It's 2100 crowns, which ends up being around $21. You can't buy $21 worth of crowns though, so you may have to spend a little more and then have crowns leftover.

I believe all PC accounts started with 500 crowns, and the crown prices are as follows (USD prices):
750 - $7.99
1500 - $14.99
3000 - $24.99
5500 - $39.99

Also if you're going to buy crowns, consider instead paying for a month of ESO plus. It would be the same price as buying 1500 crowns, and you get 1500 crowns per month with it. (plus some other bonuses)

Don't worry, when they said the Main Questline is single player, they literally just mean the one...single...main questline...of which a new quest unlocks every few levels.

Almost every single other quest in the game is non-instanced and can be played with friends. So to make it accurate, 99% of the game can be played co-op.

are there lots of rare items/weapons/armor?

how about an actual economy? is there lots of transactions going on between players?

thanks for letting us pick your brains!

Economy's a little weird, each guild bids weekly on different vendors around the world. When they win a bid, that vendor will sell the equivalent of an auction house but just with items put for sale by that guild.

You can be in up to 5 guilds, typically most people join 1-2 guilds (pve and pvp oriented, etc.) and then 3-4 "merchant" guilds. That way you have 3 different stores to sell/buy things on. Plus Merchant guilds usually hold raffles, etc. to build up money to buy the best street vendors to get even more exposure.

I'm curious if this will also happen on console and by this I mean the raffles, etc.

Yea, this makes it easy to buy things, because you can just run around checking vendors until you find what you want. Selling things is a bit harder, unless you're in a guild that gets one of those vendors.

Also if your guild is large enough (I think 50 people?) you can get a guild store, where you can buy and sell things within your guild. It works much like the AH on other MMOs, but only your guild members can access it.

Otherwise, selling/buying of rare or specific items can be done in chat. Though I don't think the console version has text chat, only voice chat. That may have an impact on selling things outside of the guild store and the guild vendors.

Really? I won't suggest my roommate pick it up then since he can't play PC games with a keyboard and mouse.

I figure there's a pretty good chance that once the console version comes out they'll add gamepad support

I'd switch to it immediately once they do

What sort of non-quest/combat activities does the game offer? Im thinking stuff like fishing etc which are kind of semi irrelevant but are fun nonetheless, also can you level up any of these activities?

Yes, you can fish and you also can use different kinds of bait. Not sure about leveling up that, though.

How does TES:O implement F2P?

It's not free to play. You just buy the game and get everything that has been released so far. Then down the line you can buy whatever expansions or DLC they release. But it does have a shop for skins, mounts and things like that. No pay to win stuff.

I've been waiting on this since I saw the Ouroboros on the cover of GI when the game was announced. So hyped. I love me some Elder Scrolls lore...game could be dog poop and I'd still buy it just for the lore. Reading through the thread posts of people who have put time into it has me beaming. Hopefully we get an active GAF guild on Xbox One when it comes out.

There is fishing which ties into provisioning. Outside of combat there is probably the best crafting system in an MMO since Star Wars Galaxies imo. Crafting you very much can level up and it won't be overnight either, some take quite awhile, but they are very worth it.

You buy the game itself, there's an optional monthly sub ontop that rewards a static % XP boost and premium currency each month which can be spent in an item shop that sells cosmetic items only.

Well they do sell a bit more than just cosmetic, but nothing pay 2 win. They are adding experience potions soon, but basically they look at the store as cosmetic and ease of life things like potions (not as good as crafted potions), exp potions, etc.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know what that other guy's problem is, but the main story quests are not for groups, full-stop. And grouping, in my experience, even in the more open quests, has been incredibly problematic.

edit: to elaborate on this, I've played the game on and off since beta, and of all the MMOs I've played, this has, hands down, been the worst one when it comes to try to play in any organized fashion with other people. The random people you run into and can kill stuff/do open dungeons with have been great. But every attempt to coordinate playing together has just been terrible for me.

True.

Of the things they don't sell, I sure wish they'd add inventory/bank expansion stuff on the crown store. I wouldn't mind throwing them a monthly sub every once in a while, but the benefits of it right now (small boosts to XP and such, and the free crowns) just aren't enough to be worth it.

I suspect it'll be more worthwhile once there's DLC.

There's not native controller support but plenty of people use Xpadder to add controller support. I haven't done it but hear good things. Search the ESO subreddit on it.

quick question, the account copy offer I got an email about a month ago... does that include the game? I'm guessing it does since it is called "The Elder Scrolls® Online: Tamriel Unlimited™ for Console with account copy", but one can never be too sure

Yeah, you pay $20, and it copies your characters over and gives you a copy of the game on that system.

I'm not sure how the actual acquiring of the game works, but I assume they'll just send you a code to redeem in the appropriate console store once ESO is available to preload or whatever.

Bought ESO a month ago on PC for $30 and was pleasantly surprised. I have played tons of MMO's throughout the years and I would rate this right up there with being one of the best. The immersion of the world is top notch. Feels like I'm playing a solo rpg within an MMO. Yes other players are always around but it feels like I'm on my own journey. Alliance War(PvP) is the best I've played in any MMO. Love that a ton.

I love that you can use any weapon/any armor with your class. Played the beta on PS4 and it was wonderful. Going to pick this up on PS4 so I can play with my buddies.

Some quick questions:
  1. Can you buy/own a home?
  2. Can you collect ingredients / crafting materials (i.e. pick flowers and harvest monster corpses)?
  3. Is there a day/night cycle?
  4. Can you horde (is there a safe place to keep your items if there's encumbrance)?
  5. Does going to Cyrodile mean you have to engage in PvP?
  6. Will monsters follow you out of a dungeon like in Oblivion or are they instanced like in Skyrim?
  7. Does the game make it hard to get around so you'll have to BUY items to do it?
  8. Is there loading/instancing or can I walk from one end of the world to the other?
  9. Does the game still have the hallmarks of cheesing enemies like proper elder scroll games like climbing a rock and delivering death to a mammoth by 1000 arrows?

man that's a great offer. last day tomorrow, so I still have time to take advantage of this. thanks for the quick reply

No homes.

Yes, ingredients are everywhere. They trimmed a lot of the fat on that stuff in the last big patch though, so there's not quite so many different kinds of meat to pick up anymore (which is a good thing, considering inventory size)

Day/night cycle is definitely a thing. I haven't really paid attention to how long it takes between each.

You have your inventory (which can be expanded with gold and is per character), and a bank (which is shared, and also expandable with gold). There's no stashing items in a safe chest like you might in Skyrim (so far as I've seen).

You can go to Cyrodiil and ignore PVP to some degree, if you don't go to where people are fighting. There's a bunch of stuff to do there in terms of small dungeons, books/skyshards to find, etc. It's a huge zone.

Monsters don't follow very far in my experience, and if you go through a door (with a loading screen), I'm fairly certain they don't follow (or I haven't seen them do it, at least).

I'm not sure what you mean by "hard to get around". You unlock wayshrines by visiting them once, so there's a lot of fast travel options.

Each zone is loaded separately, and has specific level enemies in it. You can't (without help, anyway) load in at level 1 and walk the whole game.

I'm sure some enemies are bugged/get hung on things, but I haven't seen anything as egregious as what you're talking about.

1. Not sure, but I don't think so.
2. Yes, you can collect materials, plants, ore and so forth for crafting/blacksmithing.
3. Yes, there is a day/night cycle
4. There is a bank you can store items in for free.
5 I did not get to Cyrodiil in the beta, but I know it is the pvp area. Not sure what else you can do there.
6. No, they do not unless the cave is an open area with no loading.
7. No. There is no pay to win stuff here. But fast travel does cost gold. It is not enough to care about, though. You earn plenty.
8. Each area has a dedicated map and there is loading between them.
9. I guess you could, but I only focused on going two-handed in the beta.

Here's a little more specific info about the fast travel system. There are wayshrines scattered all over the world. You can fast travel to any of them from anywhere in the world, and this costs gold. If you walk up to a wayshrine and activate it, it brings up a map and lets you fast travel for free.

Yeah, I forgot to specify the difference. The wayshrines are all over the place for sure in the areas that I got to visit.
