The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Console Performance discussion

reading the forums, apparently the 1.2 patch for 360 breaks all resistances, so maybe don't upgrade? I'm going to finish my CoD mw3 rental and then go back to Batman until this stuff gets worked out i think.

Wonder if we will have to wait until after christmas since they need to investigate the problem, patch it and send it in for certification :lol

and I wonder if it'll break more stuff!

Yep, noticed this today. I have some Legendary Daedric double enchanted armor so I have over 50% resistance in every element. Today as I played a slightly higher level Conjurer owned me with a couple of fireballs.

I'm pissed off right now. What the hell is Bethesda thinking?!

All just to rush it out on 11-11-11. I would have gladly waited another couple of months to iron out all of this bullcrap.

Oh yeah, and don't forget about the backwards flying dragons introduced in the new "Patch."

I'm lv 43 and invested like 200 hours in my 360 copy and <3 it so much. And I got a prompt for an update this morning and naturally I'm like very very wary of it.

Besides breaking all resistances (lulz), what else is there to be wary about in this patch?

Dragons that fly backwards. Seriously. I'm not even joking.

I'm not criticizing you, because I play a lot of games as well, but have you really spent more than 1/3 of your life playing this game since it released? :o

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE NEW PATCH! YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME PATCHLESS AFTERWARDS!!

So I got fed up with my awesome battlemage with over 50% resistance in ALL elemental damage getting his ass ass handed to him by two mages. Especially since I've been used to being able to DEMOLISH dragon priests within seconds.

So I clear my cache to uninstall the patch and try to play the game patchless. Guess what? You CAN'T. All the saves were created with a newer version of the game (the Day 1 Patch) so the game does not allow you to load any saves unless you download the current patch. And there's no way to roll back to the previous patch!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Yep, this is exactly what I was worried about.

Thankfully, I didn't install the update this morning. I've been playing off the disc with zero problems. Textures look great, zero slowdown and the load times are more than manageable.

Doubt I will ever patch the game, at least not until DLC hits. Hopefully, they'll have most of the kinks ironed out by then lol

I guess they really did want parity between the Xbox and PS3 versions, and seeing how broken the PS3 version is, they decided breaking the Xbox version was their only option...

Seriously, how do you miss shit like this?

LOL, I am an unemployed waifu trying to finish/100% this early so hubby can play this too. :)

EDIT: I'm so friggin glad I didn't d/l that patch now. Its so silly.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to download the old patch to a USB stick and install it to your 360 manually.

My PS3 version was running fine before the patch. Now it is a piece of broken shit. Hardly any textures load the higher res version when up close and it locks up all the time. But I am fucked since my saves are now post patch and you can't revert. To think that Dead Island was going to be the most broken game of 2011. Well played Bethesda.

PS- wouldn't be so pissed if this game wasn't so fucking amazing.

not sure if this is the appropriate thread to post this in but which platform is the best to play this on? I want to know which is better before i make my purchase.

Wait, the patch only breaks the 360 version? I was just going to take a break until they fixed it since my Amazon Black Friday games just arrived, and I didn't care enough to turn off auto updating on Steam. I may do so anyway. Batman, Uncharted, and Assassin's Creed need some love.

Oh fuck, I'm on the console performance thread, that's why...

360 version is rock solid if you avoid the newest patch for the time being.

Glad I came in here when I did to see this patch nonsense. I posted a brief Facebook update warning people about patching, so I have some friends who love my ass right now.

Bethesda needs to get this shit worked out ASAP. WTF...

very glad i decided not to download todays patch, guess i'll be playing offline until they fix it, guess Bethesda hated being so high on the XBL activity list and wanted to drop off it completely because I think a lot of people will be doing the same

Dude Wtf Bethesda Wtf. I downloaded today... Omg

I am so fucking pissed right now. I played for 20minutes today, enough to ruin my game & download the patch. Man Bethesda what the fuck is wrong with you. This is just too classic, too predictable, too expected, that they break their game with a required patch

Bethesda patched it? Finally, I can't wait to pl...

I think they took the patch off of Live. I got a new 360 slim today and popped it in and the patch was only 3mb, I'm pretty sure I only downloaded the day one patch. It did not prompt me to download any other patch and the dragons in my game have been fine so far.

But seriously, has Bethesda ever released dlc/patches that did not create game breaking bugs in the process? I remember the first dlc for Fallout and New Vegas both had some serious bugs that they had to hot fix. What the hell is wrong with them?

I just started a new game (360) and haven't had any issues yet. It downloaded the 3mb patch and I'm playing off the HDD.

Title updates are cumulative, and they don't usually spike in size much, so it's quite likely that you downloaded the latest file.

Post-patch my Ps3 version is running like a champ. Only minor stuttering and rare framerate drops. Thanks Bethesda!

Test your magic resistance. I'm pretty sure this exists in the PS3 version as well. If you have ANY clothing/armors/racial bonuses/spells/etc that offer resistance to Magic, Fire, Frost, Shock, etc, they don't actually work. On the plus side, the enemies in the game don't have any resistances. The way to test this, is find or conjure a fire atronarch and shoot it with fireballs. If you do a decent amount of damage, your shit is broken dude.

Don't thank Bethesda quite yet.

Huh?

I haven't applied the patch yet (after Giant Bomb said it still wasn't good), but I just had my first ever crash/lockup on 360. For any game, ever.

Bah. Happened when a higher level Draugr was shouting at me in a dungeon. Couldn't even power off the 360 with the front button - I had to cut power to the whole thing (flipping the switch on the surge protector.)

With the latest patch Magic resistances for your character and all your enemies is broken. So if you're a Nord and have 50% resistance to frost, it doesn't work. Conjure a flame atronach and shoot it with fireballs. That's a way to tell if your shit is broken.

Mine was working fine (360) but now all the Dragons have decided to go all ape shit, they will just start glitching around as they fly, then get stuck in one spot and go all crazy flapping wings rotating around really fast, after a few seconds of this the console lags up to the point where you can't play anymore.
Even if I port some place else another Dragon just shows up and the same thing happens... think sadly, I have to put the game away till they sort this out :(

Haven't had a freeze or slowdown on the PS3 version since the patch (around 90+ hours in, level 60) and only one freeze before the patch. All my autosaves are disabled and I've been alternating on my launch 60gb and a slim. Resistances are definitely screwed up, although I don't think my (50% resistance and arrow damage) perks for my shield have ever worked correctly anyway.

It's weird how it is affecting people differently. I've been focusing on everything but the main quest and didn't even get random dragons going until quite a few hours in and only then did I start experiencing any slowdown until the patch came not too long after and fixed that for me. I figured I would be having the same issues since Fallout 3 was so buggy and crashed like crazy for me. New Vegas worked great for me though.

In today's edition Internet forum-goers believing they represent the mass of everyman gamers...

Hey guys, if I havent downloaded the new patch yet, will clearing my cache cause the release date one to get deleted?

My system has been acting slow as shit and I wanted to perform some maintenance, but if the above will happen then no thanks.

Ok, those with post patch issues on PS3 try deleting game data and patch, reinstall patch and then game data. Made a huge difference for me.

Okay, so I've been having more freezes/crashes. Either Skyrim is fucking up, or my 360 is dying. This is distressing either way.

Yeah I noticed this too, but I didnt install any new patches. Even loading up the home screen on my initial boot takes forever. I wanted to clear my cache just in case, but I dont want to get screwed patch-wise.

Any way to install the day 1 patch through a thumbdrive on a 360? I want to start a new character but want to play with the first patch.

Haven't had any problems yet with the patch (360). Having the textures load properly when using the hard drive is good. Quite noticable the improvement.

So started playing again post patch on the PS3 and yeah, the framerate holds up.....for a couple hours....and then the chugging contest begins. Granted, my file size is over 11MB and Ive been playing for over 80 hours. Im still using the method of clearing the cache (deleting the game in the Game Data file in the XMB screen), maintaining two saves and turning off all autosaves. The FR holds up fine in caves, ruins and towers, however once you get out into the open or in certain towns, my god itll dip down to only a few FPS at certain points, unless you clear the cache every couple hours. Thank god it only takes about 5 minutes to reinstall.

Damn you Bethesda and your shoddy PS3 ports.

edit: gonna try Gutterboy44's method and see if that changes anything...

Textures do not load properly when installed on 360 with the latest patch. I just nuked my HDD install and my hands have veins and hair again. Pelts, barrels, and some stone textures are improved as well now that I'm running off the disk.

I've tried both HDD and USB. I'll continue to test.

They usually load fine for me. I'll get some low-res textures in the menu sometimes, but in the world itself, everything looks fine.
