The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Console Performance discussion

DF needs to compare these games before the patch hits. Just sayin...

From what I understand, Bethesda and Activision really hate these sorts of comparisons, so they won't give DF press copies, hence the delay.

Those textures are running at lower resolutions on the PS3. :(
Hopefully the game isn't.

PS3 has washed out colors / brightness issues as shown in the previous screens.

edit: Also missing shadows on the PS3.

It's a PS3 port of a Bethesda game. What did you expect?

Well, that's kind of dumb. If they're that concerned about it, then just make sure both versions are similar.

My 360 copy from Newegg is scheduled to arrive on Monday...would be nice if this texture bug is fixed by then.
If there's a fix coming, I can't imagine it'd come any quicker than two weeks, and that's being optimistic. Certification through Microsoft usually takes a week alone. :(

I got caught up comparing screenshots before playing the game and was nervous about purchasing the PS3 version but after having played 6 hours or so I'm really happy with it. It looks gorgeous in motion and controls great, good job Bethesda.

I have the 360 version, installed to a 8gb usb FD, with the patch (I did not clear cache). It runs smooth with no texture problems on an Elite console.

I was a bit concerned before; but the game runs very well, looks beautiful and I have not seen any major problems so far.

I'm going to try this after work, thanks for posting. I installed to HDD last night and right off the bat I was getting a mixed bag of texture issues. Here's hoping the flash drive is the best temporary fix till the inevitable patch.

So any word from Beth yet? Do I really have to go out today and buy an 8GB flash drive just to get proper textures in this game?
Installing to USB is not a good fix.

I've had texture problems both installed to a flash drive and playing right off of the disc.

PS3 version here (five hours in) runs very smoothly with some minor hitches during the opening area, open world Skyrim seems to be perfectly fine or at least as far as Riverwood to Whiterun, loads are very quick. But I do feel the colours are a bit washed out, as per LoT comparison, though it's more apparent in the open world, the dungeons on the other hand look gorgeous.

Yeah, it seems like the texture problems will arise eventually no matter what. People thought they had success after they uninstalled, ran off the disc and their save file (where they were when textures started looking weird) looked alright, but I think that's just because they restarted. They'll start looking wonky again regardless.

This shit's rediculous. Bethesda is being strangely quiet about it, only 'acknowledging' it after release? I probably should've gotten the damn PS3 version after all :/

Nothing like looking forward to something for months to have it come out as a piece of crap.

Fuck you Bethesda, you'll never see another dime from me.

Wow man. The game still looks good overall. I've noticed the texture problem in two places - on certain rocks, and a certain floor I was on once.

One thing I wanted to ask:

I get a lot of loading time when trying to use bring up the inventory/map/skill/magic screen or when I bring up the hotkey up and down buttons. Does installing the game help with this?

I'm enjoying the game a lot still. Its Bethesda, so there were bound to be problems. I think its crazy how such minor things are complete deal breakers for some of you guys. I'm sooooo glad I'm not like that.

I will get the Xbox version because my PS3 is reflowed and i dont want to put it through the marathons this game will require.

This coming from a guy who has Tidus as an avatar...

So you're going to pass up the chance to play one of the most grand RPG's of our time because of a few texture issues? Methinks you need to get a new hobby if you're going to be so dramatic. I mean, I know this is GAF, but that kind of attitude belongs in the IGN comment threads or GameFAQs forums.

BeeDog said:
Might be wrong, but from a quick glance it looks like the PS3 version has V-sync enabled and thus drops frames more often. The 360 version seems to be the only one tearing in that video.
You are right. There's a good amount of tearing in the combat scenes. The textures and lighting looks better on X360 tough. PS3 seems blurred and the lighting looks static in some scenes.

I'm still going to play it, I have $100+ put into it between the game and CE guide.

It's just extremely disappointing for such a landmark series to sink so low.

Also, FFX is amazing, suck it. HAHAHAHAHA

Sink so low? You must be talking about Final Fantasy, because Skyrim is awesome.

It's ok.

I understand man. You're probably going to buy their next game, and the next one after that anyway.

But you gotta relay your frustration somehow... just not enough to control your behaviour to do so. I might be wrong, but if you're anything like the typical internet user, this will be true.

But at least you get to express the frustration on a relatively significant gaming forum on the internet.

Someone out there... maybe, just maybe read that post and rethought how they'd deliver the obvious truth - that people weren't going to be very happy with obvious glitches in their highly anticipated products - to their bosses.

Who would then look at their sales, weigh various other data points and come to the conclusion that what they are already doing - the combination of media blitz, grand game scope was sufficient to do blockbuster business, even with the poor QA typical of all their games - and not change much... or even continue to tighten the proverbial screws and continue to cut corners where 'they could afford' to, until the market responded back in kind.

I get it man. I've got my own thoughts to add to the pile.

Fuck you Bethesda. I'm not paying full price for this shit. I mean, I'm already pissed about how you're price gouging dicks, charging aussies $90 fucking dollars for a digital copy of the game. Who needs to spend that kinda money and dozens of hours wallowing in a glitchy, sub optimal derivative game? I certainly don't.

I mean, the marketing the hype and the epic world scope worked. But not enough to overcome the greed of regional pricing and fucking buggy glitchy shit with ill-fitting controls and options.

Installed the game to my 360 HDD and I think I'm getting the non-loading textures. Either that or some textures are just fucking awful.

Look at this photo I took, the ground is a nice relatively high-res looking texture, but the wall next to it is a blurry mess that looks like it never loaded at all (sorry for cell phone photo of a TV):

7EmTz.jpg

All the textures in the starting area are like this. Some look great, others look like they haven't yet loaded. :\ Hopefully it's that they haven't loaded and not that they look like shit.

comparison without the textures problems in the X360 version. Also PC.

Elders Scroll's Skyrim - Xbox 360, Ps3 & PC comparison

This is weird, because you can see on the water the difference. I have PS3 and it looks like the 360/PC videos, not the PS3 video they show. Also, in the dungeon, you can see the textures looking blurry. None of my textures look blurry. Ever.

Edit: Even the looking down on Whiterim, the world looks blurred on the PS3, while not on the 360/PC. On my PS3 it does NOT look like that. You can see the textures repeat like they do on the 360/PC version. I crested that same point not more than 10 minutes ago.

I'm starting to think this 'texture' bug may effect all platforms one way or another.

Ugh...definitely a texture loading issue. Check this armor texture compared to my character's face texture:

YdTgd.png

Or compare the textures of the two items on the floor compared to the floor texture:

FNcjB.jpg

Not as easy to see in the pic as it is in real life, but the difference between the loaded and not loaded textures is so noticeable and jarring that I am stopping and looking at stuff because calling some of this stuff textures is a joke, most of it is just colored blobs on a surface. I hope they put out a fix ASAP.

So after reading all six pages, it seems like both the console versions come out even - a "pick your poison" scenario?

PS3
-Washed out colors
-Missing shadows

Xbox 360
-Screen tearing
-Texture issues

That sum it up?

Pretty much.

FYI - uninstalled game from my HDD and the textures look great now. Problem solved except now I have to listen to the airplane that is the 360 taking off while I play the game.

If you have time, try to install again. Some people get this solved uninstalling and installing again.

I reinstalled it three times to see if it was just a problem with the one install, each time my textures looked like garbage. Streaming it from the disc makes the textures look so much better, so I'll just wait until they patch it. Just gotta crank the surround sound. :)

Screen tearing?! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

PS3 has none?

I think PS3 version is triple buffered but I think I saw one or two tears but it's hard to tell in that video. 360 on the other hand is full of screen tearings.

I have the 360 version paid for and ready to pick up after work.. sometimes I hate owning both systems it makes multi-plat games a chore to choose.

Yep screen tearing out the fucking wazoo! You wouldn't release a film with it so why would you release a game with it.

Bethesda must've been money hatted big time by uncle Bill to show the worst version of the game all this time. smh.

Can anyone comment on how well the game uses a 5.1 system? I'm still debating Xbox vs. PS3 and my PS3 is in the living room on a bigger/better TV with 5.1, while my 360 is on a lesser TV with 2.1 system in my Man Cave.

Played the PS3 version today and gonna buy that. The wait is killing me and the PS3 version looks great to me.

PS3 Version is great. If everyone keeps popping up on the internet looking for flaws they are wasting their time..

Does not look like the butchered Fallout iterations.

PS3 version and Xbox360 version both are same.

Should i get the ps3 version if i have the sony 7.1 surround sound headset?

The 360 version looks a bit better to me but i really want to know if the sound is worth it.

The texture issue will be patched, making the 360 version superior in the long run.

The 360 controller is way better anyway :p

So I just got my 360 version. I've been reading here that install or no install the texture problem will show up, so I guess I might as well install to the HDD?(primarily for faster loading)

I just bought that headset last night. I'm getting it for PC though but I really wish I had the surround sound with it. If I were you and deciding between the two consoles, I'd get it for ps3 for sure but that's just my bias with how great my ps3 setup is with that particular headset.
