The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Console Performance discussion

I got Fallout 3 and Oblivion day one on PS3 as well, easily put well over 200 hours into both and never experienced any game breaking bugs. Luck of the draw?

Either way, I have no choice. I'll be picking up the PS3 version in just over 5 hours. And then retreating into man cave to play all night, and all day tomorrow.

Releasing games on a Friday makes so much sense, can anyone tell me why they're released on Tuesday's instead?
Me neither. Also no issues with New Vegas.
The only issue I had with Oblivion was that I had a couple lock ups.
I haven't nitpicked textures and shadows though. :(

Well been playing for a couple of hours now (360) and I haven't seen any dodgy unloaded textures so far. I did clear my cache before installing and playing the game though so maybe that helped.

installed?

I have the 360 version and the textures are fucking horrendous.
Game is installed.

That's a shame. A number of podcasts I listened to where they gushed about how gorgeous it was...they had played it on the 360.

: /

For the moment...I'm glad I am waiting for this as a Xmas gift.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see if there's any major difference between platforms. I'm hoping to get a console within the next couple months after not having one for like a year and a half. Skyrim is one of the reasons I want to get one, so if one version is drastically better than the other it could be the deciding factor for me between 360 and PS3.

Disappointing to here the beginning of the game chugs on PS3, but as long as it runs better after the intro I guess it really doesn't matter much.

Holy shit the PS3 version is looking...better??? It sucks that the 360 version has this texture problem, but I'm sooo happy the PS3 version seems to run well!

Now I won't regret getting the PS3 version! Hope 360 gets patched soon and everyone can enjoy the game as Bethesda meant to! :-)

DF needs to compare these games before the patch hits. Just sayin...

I know, I know! I don't really mind if the PS3 version ends up looking a little bit worse, I just wish the game to run smoothly and without game breaking bugs, and except for the 360 texture problem, both versions seemed to run fine on that youtube video...

10 hours on 80GB PS3.. no freezing yet, one audio glitch that needed a restart, no texture problems apart from inventory viewer, no npc pathing bugs yet, load times have been fast including autosaves. Framerate is only bad in particular areas, most of the time it's pretty smooth, def some locations where it's rough though (morthal area).

Fuck it, I'm getting the PS3 version. Even if the 360 version turns out to have the upper hand, it will be a case of ugly versus slightly uglier. Really not worth stressing about.

I owned Oblivion, Fallout, and Fallout NV on PS3, got them early too. The biggest problem was with Fallout because of the notification glitch. Other than that it was all smooth. They did good jobs with them I thought, the whole notification freeze stuff was a huge problem though. Just had to play offline or turn notification off, but how could you show off you had fallout?

I'm not saying I didn't experience glitches. Game Bryo (whatever it's called) seem to be well known for them.

Yeah I also got the ps3 version and its plays and handles well a little lag in the beginning areas of the game but nothing that is worth bitching about.
I am more preoccupied about how the awesome it is.

I don't know if it's already been posted, but a brief Lens of Truth screenshot comparison is up.

It pretty much mirrors the earlier screenshot comparison we already had. The PS3 version looks a bit jankier so far in spite of that one video.

Those textures are running at lower resolutions on the PS3. :(
Hopefully the game isn't.

PS3 has washed out colors / brightness issues as shown in the previous screens.

edit: Also missing shadows on the PS3.

So its either blurry version on ps3 or fucked texture streaming at times on 360. Man i almost dont want to buy a 360 copy or a ps3 copy till they fix the texture thing on 360.
Go for 360... They should be able to patch this problem

I'd hope there is a fix to the texture streaming problem (apparently flash drives fix it), but I can guarantee there is no fix to lower resolution textures.

The texture thing really isn't a big deal once you're in the thick of things. Not enough to hold you back if you were already interested in playing the game. And after reinstalling after the fast travel debacle everything has stayed normal.

But for people who are waiting, Bethesda knows something's up and is looking into it, so hopefully they can sort it out.

So its not showing up when the games runs of the disc? man i dont know if i can handle the drive noise.
For some people. Other people are not having it show up when it's installed either.

It's really a bit of a crapshoot. Hell, the Bethesda staff on their forums said it isn't even related to the HDD install. I don't know if I believe that yet, but it's hard to pin this down.

Is it the day 1 patch thats causing this? Anyone having no issues with a patched install?

The problem was reported before the patch came out.

People in the OT were asking if the patch solved the issue.

You know what, I've also been wondering if it's a screwy update/patch that's causing the glitch.

When I get my copy tomorrow, I'm going to stay offline and see what happens for the first several hours. I'll make sure to fast travel and access the inventory window often, to see if I can replicate the bug.

Just got up. Can any PS3 users tell me how it runs please. Are you happy with it? Not bothered about any vs 360 rubbish, just if its good enough.

Cheers
Anth.

seeing LoT comparison, especially the images on second page showing the floor with the box and bread thing, i cant really say that the 360 looks better by this images..., in some it looks as the 360 has lower texture but better colours (darker blacks, can it be fixed in game on PS3?), and the PS3 is missing some shadows, and in some images as higher textures, also the shadows on the PS3, for me, look better

edit. today i got the 360 version, but as several ppl here i have the texture loading problem... so i'm sorry 360 but i'm gone change it for the PS3... i don't see any major difference to justify the bugged 360 version

360 version here, absolutely no indication of texture problems after two hours. Installed, didn't clear cache. Looking everywhere for problems but nothing yet.

Picked this up for the PS3 at midnight.

Close to 5 hours in, no problems. It looks incredible. Plays smooth. The only pause I've run into was the initial save at the beginning of the game as you're given control of your character. Everything else has been 100% stutter free. I went through a 3 hour long dungeon fighting multiple things at once, shooting flames out of my hands with no slowdown. No noticeable dip in frame rate. No pop ups. Nothing.

The game appears to be rock solid polished on PS3 as far as I'm concerned.

Going to bed now really anxious to spend all weekend playing this. VERY awesome game.

Edit: There was also a 59MB patch that was installed when I first put the disc in.

Sounds good, and that will do for me.

Cheers fella.

Opening part ran badly but after that it's been running pretty smoothly.

Wow too many 360 problems for my taste, picking up the PS3 version along with the CE guide at bestbuy in a few.

Been roaming around Skyrim for a good half an hour, the opening scenes (caves) sometimes ran poorly (20-25fps) but once I entered Skyrim the game runs absolutely beautifully. (PS3)

Amazing looking game, install took around 3-4 minutes.

Although I haven't been paying much attention, I don't think I've seen any tearing.

I have the 360 version, installed to a 8gb usb FD, with the patch (I did not clear cache). It runs smooth with no texture problems on an Elite console.

I was a bit concerned before; but the game runs very well, looks beautiful and I have not seen any major problems so far.

Its not brightness, its lack of HDR in comparison with 360 according to Al from B3D.

Good to hear. Makes you wonder why they showed the inferior 360 version all this time then?

Damn, hope I have a 4GB USB drive somewhere around! I should have the 360 version by the end of the day from Amazon

I lied... went for the 360 version just to be safe. Played for about 5 and a half hours. No texture loading issue, but I did just have a hard lock up. Game looks fantastic overall.
