The end of one chapter in my life

Good for you! I've been following your threads and I'm glad to know you can finally move forward with your life.

Why do you always go back and redact everything from your threads by editing them and replacing the text with a "."?

You link a post in your OP but everything is fucking redacted.

Why isn't that bannable?

He says right there in the OP that he did it to cover his tracks as his GAF account was discovered by the university. Back then, he was still stuck at the institution and I imagine he wanted to lessen the fallout as much as possible.

Wait wait, I don't understand. They "expelled" you? Any reason why you couldn't leave on your own behalf? Sorry for not being up to speed on the backstory.

But congrats nonetheless :)
It's not an official expulsion. Basically, the university doesn't want me influencing their Christian students in any way, shape, or form. Plus, the university has a policy in which openly non-Christian students are only allowed to attend for one semester.

The reason why I couldn't leave on my own behalf is mainly due to my parents wanting to save money and they thought that I was getting a great education for my graphic design degree.

This sounds extremely immoral and must violate some basic civil liberties.

How the fuck can you run a University, and then state that your PRIMARY goal is to get students to embrace and love God? What the fuck? The primary goal should be informing, educating, and loving fucking KNOWLEDGE, fool.

Fuck Bob Jones. High five to you. May you find greener pastures and success in an environment that brings you happiness, knowledge, and a sense of well being.

I did not know schools could kick people out based on their religious preference, crazy.
They didn't kick him out did they? They simply asked him not to enroll.

Good for you! I wish you the best :)

Their primary goal is to put education second.

Congrats, man. Any school that puts shit like this on their website is no place for any kind of education, religious or not:

Dress code for women:

• Hairstyles should be neat and feminine, and hair color should appear natural.
• Earrings may be worn in the lower lobe of the ear (no more than 2 matching pairs). Other types of body piercing are not appropriate. Tattoos are not appropriate. Excessive makeup is not appropriate.
• Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to biblical morality. Therefore, BJU asks its students not to patronize these stores, wear their clothing or display articles containing their names or logos.

What not to bring:
• Posters of movie and music stars and fashion models
• Personal photos exhibiting immodesty or inappropriate physical contact
• Rock, rap, jazz and country music, as well as religious music that borrows from these styles
• Televisions, DVD/videotape players and headphones
• Computer and video games rated above E10

• Residence hall students may not watch videos above a G rating when visiting homes in town and may not attend movie theaters.
• All weapons brought to campus must be turned in for storage. Trigger locks are required for pistols.

You can't watch PG movies or listen to country music, but it's totally okay to bring your guns, just make sure they're locked and stored away.

Any time a group leaves campus with males and females, they have to be fucking chaperoned. IN COLLEGE.

God, everything about that letter makes my former-Christian rage boil... ugh, just congrats on getting out of there, man.

Hahaha, I seriously laughed out loud.

Holy fuck, dude. I would have killed myself if my college had been like that. I suddenly love my alma mater a lot more.

Televisions, DVD players, music - prohibited.
Guns - s'cool, we'll hold on to them for you.

Also, why would anyone bring video games, but not a TV?

What? You can't go the a movie theater if you live there?

Ok, I can get rock and rap, but jazz? JAZZ?

What. the. fuck.

I can't imagine how many PSPs with CFW and 10g of porn are smuggled in.
That sounds like a terrible and dark future for those with healthy sex drive. Good lord.

You never know what kinds of depravity you could get exposed to if you wander into a movie theater (aka, the devil's crotch)

WOW a place like that exists and gets to call itself a university? how the fuck are they a university if they want to get rid of students because of thought crimes? and WTF, they were spying on the OP and his GAF comments..? i'm stunned.

if i had the money i'd fly to America and protest in front of their shitty institution 24/7.

haha, that letter is mostly funny because they're training "God's Warriors." Not so much as stated that way, but you get the hint they want these people to be super religious.

I would say oppression and celibacy may build a stronger mind, but I remember being 14 and it did the complete opposite. lol

What. the. fuck.

Black music.

Any other university and that would be a joke. But I'm actually serious.

Who the fuck would live by these tenets after graduation? There must be people out there who graduated, and then for the rest of their life, don't allow video games, rap, rock, or jazz into their homes, and forever fear the debauchery of the movie theater.

They must avert their eyes as they pass a movie theater, lest they be turned to a pillar of salt as the almighty god strikes down that den of sinful intent.

I keep picturing their graduates as John Lithgow from Footloose. "Rock and roll is the devils' music, by golly!"

I'm curious as to why the OP stayed at university in the first place. I'm going on a limb here, but I'm guessing it was the parents. But if so, why FORCE yourself to get "rejected"? Wouldn't that disappoint the parents more? Are the parents in the picture yet? And why not just enroll in another school, why get yourself rejected other than to have a letter to entertain GAF with?

Raist said:

What. the. fuck.

Jazz used to be the devil's music, before rock and roll. Being mainly black and associated with drugs didn't help it. Yes, it's been a long time since jazz had that reputation, but BJU's policies are rooted in that era so the policy shouldn't come as a surprise.

Glad you got out of that hellhole.

From what I can make of it, they found out what he was posting on GAF and talked to him about it.

Nope. And it's my parents' money anyway.

This was a rather complex situation so it's kind of hard to explain. Basically, this was the best way to show my parents that BJU was not the school for me. Again, you would have to know my parents to understand where I'm coming from. In short, they're very hard to reason with.

Glad to hear you are out of that nightmare of a place. I am pissed off that we had to learn religion in my primary and secondary schools (UK) when I was a kid but clearly I got off lightly.

If you ever get the time you should do an in depth write up on your experience there. I know there will be a hell of a lot of people who would want to read it. Especially when you throw in the parts about no mixed race dating and no TV's but guns are fine.

Here's a true funny story. Went to a private Christian fundamentalist school for most of my life before college and one of the pastors at hand always preached how he wouldn't even drive through the driveway of a theater to get to another part of the mall. He would take the extra time to go around the theater.

I'll have to read your other threads. I hope tensions are not high back home over this.

Congratulations mate. Good to hear you're going somewhere where you will get a better education. Must feel even better to have your parents support in this, even if they say it's just because of the lower tuition.

Yeah I'd definitely be interested in the equivalent of an ask me anything.

They no longer have that rule http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Jones_University#Dropping_the_no-interracial-dating_rule_.282000.29

Then again, the student body is predominately white. And when I say white, I mean WHITE. I felt like I was in some sort of 1950s time bubble whenever I talked with the other students.

Yeah, well, it makes my current Christian blood boil with rage too. Congrats on getting out Atra.

Now, go enjoy life. It's a beautiful thing.

Glad to hear that you're out of there. Getting expelled is not much to be proud about, so I'll save the congratulations for when you actually make some progress (i.e. find a good college, move out and move on). Good luck!

That code of ethics is cringe-worthy. If there's one thing this place does right, it's not allowing Abercrombie and Hollister on campus.

Well he wasn't expelled, he was asked not to come back. Big difference.

I'm glad that the OP is getting his life straightened out and going down the road he feels more comfortable with. I've read the other threads and I know how conflicted he's been. Going to a school where you know you aren't comfortable in the environment is hard, regardless of whether it is religious or not.

I think that the stealth trolling of religion and direct trolling of BJU is sophomoric and disgusting. Especially the posts that have words like "bigoted" and "intolerant" in them. Those Christians sure are bad because they don't believe the same way I do! That kind of place shouldn't be allowed to exist! Such hypocrisy.

If you aren't interested in a religious education then don't go to a private religious school. But if people are interested let them enjoy their rights the same way you expect to be able to enjoy yours: free of hate and criticism. Tolerance is a two-way street.

How come you had to wait until they told you to stop going? Why couldn't you just leave?
Again, my situation was not simple. The only way I was going to get out of BJU was if someone, besides myself, was able to show my parents that BJU was not the right university for me. I badgered my parents for 2 years telling them I wanted out of the school and nothing came out of that. I have never been able to convince my parents of anything unless I was able to use some outside force to influence them. For example, I wasn't allowed to have a Gameboy or rather any video game system (no matter how much I begged and pleaded for my parents to get me one) until my aunt bought me one as a birthday present. I basically have to use other people as proxies in order for me to change my parents' minds. That's how stubborn they can be.

What are your plans now? How are they, your parents, taking these news?
