Seems like it depends on how many people are hating on the movie, for how long, and how many people are complaining. The bitching is annoying in itself.

Not really.

In the Inception thread, it doesn't matter if your opinions are perfectly backed and eloquently stated, you're met with the same hostility that a dumbass who posts unfounded bullshit backed with nothing more than fragmented sentences and irrelevant pictures, is met with.

Nothing that Plain - er - Expendable. was doing in this thread was 'the norm'. Even a generally negative thread doesn't have one single poster with that kind of focus.

Quit trying to sell 'but that happens in every thread' spin because nobody is buying.

welcome to the discretion of the mods... IMHO, no that's not fine either. but general consensus of a thread plays a big part. Movies like Last Airbender had a pretty negative official thread. Outside of you, this thread is pretty positive and upbeat about the movie. But go back to Attack of the Clones, and probably Phantom Menace is such a thread existed on GAF back then, and I'm sure you'll find an overly negative vibe in the thread with few bannings.

I've checked in on the thread off and on but it seemed like the Plainview was being a bit silly with his "it's going to suck" over and over again. I think it was clear that he didn't like the idea of the movie, and wants everyone else to think the same way he is.

after seeing that, I'm inclined to withdraw my major complaint: close-up cinematography.

after viewing this clip, it doesn't seem bad at all. I'm more inclined to now think part of my issue was how close to the screen I was sitting. in the front section, perhaps 6 rows back.

and just be aware: the movie uses the same kind of CG blood that Rambo uses...so on occasion (maybe twice), it will look cheesy.

oh...and the entire movie is just like that clip...and I'd say that was one of the least impressive fight scenes in the movie. :D

This is something I have definitely been worried about. If this scene is representative of most of the movie I think I'll be okay. There is shaky cam, quick-cutting, and some close-ups but it doesn't seem gratuitous. It's just enough to make the sequence seem more visceral and hectic but not at the expense of being able to follow the action.

when the fuck did Terry Crews become an action star? I understand he was nothing more then an affirmative action hire but they couldn't find an black actor who has actually been in legit action movies?

That clip was fantastic.

I think Solo had a similar issue/resolution with Quantum of Solace.

yea, I'm not really sure now. there are a ton of close-ups...and I can't remember if that was one of the "zomg what just happened??" sequences...but I do know that I couldn't keep up with that scene nearly as well as I did watching it on my computer just now.

I think had I sat farther back, I would have had a slightly different experience. I hope that is the case, because some of the scenes...you just know some epic move happened, but I didn't get to completely see it.

Protip: never sit in the front rows of a movie theater. go see the movie at a later time or a different day if it's your only option.

Serious? If so, this movie may cause me to grow a 3rd ball.[/QUOTE]
yes, completely serious.

His character was originally supposed to be played by Wesley Snipes. Snipes wanted to do it, but he would have had to film in Brazil and wasn't allowed to leave the country because of his whole unpaid taxes fiasco. I think if it had been Snipes though, the character might have been a little different and definitely would have had more screen time than I hear Crews has. I think if Crews had been acting back in the era when these types of movies were still being made he most definitely would have been in several legit action movies. He looks like he'll work well in the movie and I'm not sure who I would have chose over him. Michael Jai White, maybe? At least it wasn't 50 Cent, lol.

this reminds me of Equilibrium, where christian bale takes out an entire squadron of bad guys by himself without any said bad guys firing back. It's so fucking unplausible and illogical how two guys killed a bunch of armed soldiers with knives and a pistol, but yet I DON'T GIVE A SHIT. that was bad fucking ass!

hopefully i have time this weekend to see it

Thanks, that's the review I've been waiting for. I'll be grabbing a few beers and watching this film as soon as I get the chance.

Whats Carl Weathers up to these days?

They tried to get Wesley Snipes for the role but he was in jail :D

Unplausible? That is unpossible!

Regardless of his credentials in action cinema, I heard he does an excellent job with what little screen time he's given.

Also, The Expendables has an 8.8 rating with 2,252 votes despite having not officially released :lol

I doubt he was even considered. He wanted a part in Rocky Balboa and after Stallone turned him down, he demanded more money to use his likeness. Stallone even called him Apollo Greed at one point. :lol

The correct answer for a Jet Li movie was Fist of Legend.

Otherwise, pretty good list I guess.
This. Once Upon a Time in China is awesome though. 2 Statham movies is a bit much too.

that list is pretty terrible

demolition man, really? cliffhanger would have been a much better choice for 90s era stallone, demolition man has aged poorly imo, hell cobra, first blood part 2, or the newest rambo would have all been way better stallone picks.

2 statham picks? crank sure, but the transporter movies are pretty disposable, might as well have included total recall or the ludicrous running man.

while universal soldier is a pretty good action flick, dolph's defining film role is drago in Rocky 4 (also one of the best stallone films as well), if he dies, he dies.

Ha, thanks :lol

Tried to stray away from Rocky films since they aren't really like The Expendables. Plus, Stallone is wearing the same damn hat as the pic from The Expendables. How could you pass that up?

Also, didn't want three Arnie films since he is barely in The Expendables.

I will also always love Statham and he is as much of an enjoyable action star in Transporter and Crank than any of the heavyweights in The Expendables.

Day one. Fuck, I wish they'd have the Blu-Ray of the movie available for purchase outside in the theater parking lot afterwards. I didn't see it, but I know I'm going to love it.

I've been saying this forever too, but we need a fighting game with all these stars in it, including people like Seagal, Blanks, Chuck Norris, etc.

I think Demolition Man is a little underrated. It's so aware of its camp and embraces it fully. It wasn't something I could really appreciate until I watched it again tihs year. :lol

Agreed. I like it a lot more than Cliffhanger. I just can't buy Lithgow as a villain. :lol

That clip was only 51 seconds and had like 5 throat stabs. Really starting to get giddy about seeing the midnight screening of this flick.

Throwing knives for everyone! Yay! :lol

I loved the clip.

Carl Weathers is not looking too hot these days, hes very old and really far more run down than anyone else in this movie. Recent pics of him were not pretty.

Wesley Snipes was busy hiding from the IRS

I love it too. I even have a replica of the Night Slasher's knife. :D

Badass. I've always thought it's a pretty underrated action film (and one Stallone ghost directed). Brain Thompson is GREAT as the Night Slasher.

The Sleaze/Modeling montage is hilarious though, it makes my wife laugh every time we watch it.

Yeah, Thompson was awesome. There are some great lines in that movie too.
