Maybe your "fact" ;)

Wait. You're saying you have definitive proof that Sly is no longer using banned substances? Or HGH? I really don't fucking care what he's on but those arms look disgusting.

Dude I give a SHIT about what he's using. 100% he was using HGH during his workout!!!! The problem for you: I give a shit about it + He gives a shit about it + He looks awesome and his arms are looking awesome. With his over 60 years he looks better than you will ever look @your prime ;)

And now back to topic!

Hell no! They aren't iconic action-heroes

They already have non-iconic actors/wrestlers. The ones I listed have better acting chops than some of others I've seen from the cast list who are definitely less prominent (but they were also probably cheaper to cast.)

So Stone Cold Steve Austin is an iconic action hero but Vin Diesel isn't?

What? :lol how is this a problem for me?

Less prominent but looking like a bad ass character.
Diesel is a new-generation action star (F&F), Rock = Comedy-Action, Ving = Hell no! T. Crews looks like a badass ;)

Austins role isn't a big one, dude! You've read the script?
I'm talking about Stallone, Dolph, Li, Statham

Umm, dude, I'd rather have Statham's body than Stallone's. Good for Sly keeping himself in such good shape, but it's also due to steroids and HGH.

Dude, calm the fuck down. We get it, you want to have buttsekz with Sly. Sly's awesome, but he is taking HGH and steroids an' shit. And my body's pretty fucking awesome in its prime too. :P

RSTEIN said:
You're asking me if I've read the script to a movie starring Terry Crews and Dolph Lungren?
Yes ;) Sure it can't be as good as your favourite movie "Twilight" but it's still good ;)

Due to HGH! Yes! And?

Vin Diesel is new-gen but let's be real, probably the only reason he's not appearing in this movie is because of budget (or filming) constraints. He's got the perfect screen presence for a movie like this - as much as anyone else does. I feel Ving Rhames does as well. The Rock always looks a little goofy, even when acting intense, so I'm not too broken up over him. I still think he'd be a better pick than Stone Cold or Randy Couture, but again, it comes back down to the budget.

The only iconic action stars in the movie (imo) are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Stallone (& Bruce Willis if he's cast.) Lundgren is an iconic action star in the same way that Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris is - perhaps slightly more legitimate than those two. Jet Li is an iconic martial artist star. And Statham is just as new blood as Vin Diesel is, with a smaller build.

Yep! And? The difference = Lundgren has still an awesome body and Chuch&Seagal are looking like crap atm :D

True. But in my opinion, the cast's eclectic origins are part of its appeal to me. You've got Stallone and Arnie as the iconic action stars. You have Jet Li as a nod to Asian martial arts action flicks. You've got Lundgren for one-note 80s nostalgia. You've got Statham as a badass Brit, a modern action star. You've got modern real-life MMA badasses in token roles (the Nogueria brothers, and Couture. But please God, don't give Couture too many lines!)

I think that Vin Diesel and the Rock would have fit right in with this cast, though you may be right about the Rock not quite fitting the tone. Still, with the amount of awesome in this flick, we shouldn't nitpick about who couldn't make it in. Though I do wish the Governator could have a more substantial role than a cameo. :(

Before you said that Vin Diesel isn't in the movie because he's not an iconic action star. Everyone's a bit confused by this statement considering that the cast beyond Stallone and Ahnold are D list actors at best.

This movie is going to nail my balls to the theater chair for not being adequate enough, but there's no reason to get so defensive over Sly's arms.

"big battle scene 2day. jason & Sly take out Garza's army wth knives & lots o guns. jungle/rural area of Colonia. p'razzi hanging from trees"

And a little bit more from the dedicated blog:
"so we are now into week 2 here in Brazil. today we are shooting in the rural area of Colonia about 1 1/2 hours outside Rio. It is also where the mental institution is located although compared to some of our crew everyone acts pretty normal. The set is situated in the jungle which is filled with mosquitoes and ticks among other things. Factor in the extreme heat and humidity, the occasional downpour, 300 hundred crew members, hundred extras, 4 cameras, cranes, huge lighting set ups, a language barrier and the merging of two completely different ways of working (US vs Brazil) you could have a recipe for disaster. Bu we don't, thanks to Sly and his total command of the set along with the total professionalism of the cast. No whiners on this film thank God. Today is pretty cool - barney Ross (SLY) and Lee Christmas (JASON) ambush some of Garza's (DAVID ZAYES) henchmen and all hell breaks loose. I am really impressed with Giselle Itie - she is perfect for the role of Sandra. Then there's the p'razzi who are literally hanging out of the tress in the mountains trying to get a shot. One guy told me he can shoot wherever he likes cause he is a photographic lawyer. I told him I was a ballerina...that's it for now. stay tuned"
:D

So cool

If this movie is true to what I expect we won't see Jet Li in set pics. I mean, he is there but his fucking ninja skills make him invisible to our lowly eyes.

Cast/(a bit of Story) SPOILER

# Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross a.k.a. The Schizo
TRUE: Barney Ross is the de-facto leader of the Expendables, called the Schizo for his rambo-esque ability to go from nice guy to bloodthirsty at the drop of the hat. This is going to be his last mission before retirement.

# Mickey Rourke as Tool, A former Expendable
TRUE: Tool and Ross were former partners in crime, until Tool retired to become an arms dealer. He is the supplier for Ross for the upcoming mission, and has a small role. He does come into play at the end, and does have a some cool moments of badassery with Ross in a flashback.

# Jason Statham as Lee Christmas, the second in command
TRUE: Lee Christmas is an British-American Expendable who takes over Tool's spot as a the 2nd in command. He is one of the most dangerous Expendables as he has a big mouth and bigger guns.

# Jet Li as Kong Bao, a former Chinese mercenary turned Expendable
TRUE: Kong Bao is a martial arts expert. Is despised by Gunnar as he is the last recruited Expendable and isn't one of the "Tool-Ross" Era. Has the most hand-to-hand combat scenes in the movie.

# Dolph Lundgren as Gunnar Jensen, a German Expendable
TRUE: Gunnar is an Expendable with a nihilistic view of their "business". Turns on the Expendables in South America in exchange for 10 million dollars and a city to call his own.

# Terry Crews as Hale Caesar, an Expendable
TRUE: The most "philosophical" expendable with a serious ego problem. His character is written well and is Kong Bao's best friend in the group. Takes alot of damage from villains in the film, but is a strong my friend.

# Steve Austin as Dan Paine, a Sadistic Former Marine turned Bodyguard
MOSTLY TRUE: He's former black ops, and for the most part he's Monroe's protective detail. A sick my friend, although we only hear of his former work, as it is alluded he has helped Garza in the past during the Bush Sr. Era during a secret C.I.A. war.

# Robert Knepper as Richard, the "Gay" Expendable
TRUE: Small role as Tool's personal "contribution" to the Garza coup, a former Navy SEAL who went AWOL during the first gulf war and has been doing small-time bounty hunting since. Is nicknamed "The Handyman" as an allusion to his homosexuality. Has a pretty bad run in with Paine which screws over the Expendables.

# Giselle Itié as Sandra
TRUE: A woman who secretly works for a resistance against Garza, as her brother and parents were killed by Garza. Falls in love with Barney, who later asks him to not participate in the coup.

# Randy Couture as Toll Road, an Expendable
MOSTLY TRUE: Toll Road is the last Expendable of the Tool-Ross Era. Expert at demolition and responsible for half the explosions in the film. Small but spread apart role.

# Charisma Carpenter as Lacy, Lee Christmas's Fiancee
TRUE: Lacy is in fact Lee's finacee. Threatens to leave him if he left to do the coup. Morally unwavered by Christmas's actions.

# Eric Roberts as Monroe, a C.I.A. Agent bent on arresting the Expendables and preventing the coup of General Garza
MOST TRUE: He is a C.I.A. Agent who replaces Will Sands, whose role is now reduced to a small scene with Monroe and a flashback, as the head on the case of catching the Expendables. Stubborn, Dedicated and is willing to go to extreme lengths to capture Ross. Has a history with the Expendables. Hires Paine personally after seeing his black ops record. Is partnered with French INTERPOL Agent Diane Lickson for most of the movie. Both are betrayed by Paine and let the surviving Expendables escape after being rescued.

# Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Bar Patron who encounters Barney Ross and almost come to blows.
TRUE: The character is described as "Bar Brute" in the shooting script. Screen Direction says the moment with Ross has "seemingly decades of history behind it". Fun gag.

:D

# David Zayas as General Garza, The Dictator
TRUE: The Military Dictator, Alfredo Garza, although mostly the puppet master of the story. Kills Mr. Church's Friend to assure his strength over the political resistance. Gets *beep* UP. If anything needs to be cut to secure a PG-13, it's his scene with Christmas and Ross at the end.

# Brittany Murphy as Tool's Girlfriend, a Singer
MOSTLY TRUE: Is named as Amy, incredibly flirtatious bar singer who is Tool's girlfriend. Alluded that she used to be a call girl. Cameo at best, used as Eye Candy and further reason for Ross to retire like Tool.

# Gary Daniels as The Brit, a former Expendable who now works for Garza.
MOSTLY TRUE: He plays the Character of Wickham a.k.a. The Brit, who left to do more "dirty" work, including intimidation tactics for Garza. His spot was replaced by Bao, who he refers to as "Kung Phooey". Helps orchestrate Gunnar's betrayal on the group. His death causes Garza to turn to Paine for help. Small Role yet one of the cooler characters in the Ross-Tool flashback.

# The Nogueria Brothers as Garza's Henchmen
TRUE: Identified as "The Twins" in the script, are featured members of Emanuel's posse. No Dialogue.

# Scott Adkins was originally cast as Dan Paine; recast into a smaller role as Garza's Top Assassin, who kills the young man associated to Mr. Church
FALSE: The Assassin is in there, briefly at the beginning, but is not played by Adkins. Was in the running to play Paine but never cast.

So far I have no casting on Agent Will Sands, INTERPOL Agent Diane Lickson, Hector Almeida, or Mr. Church. But for some character information:

Agent Will Sands is Monroe's former senior partner and let the Expendables go in order to save the life of two children they were protecting. Sands investigation causes him to lose his job and Monroe becomes head of the case. Neurotic.

Diane Lickson is a smooth talking experienced INTERPOL agent, sent to bring in several of the Tool-Ross Era Expendables in for international crimes. Keeps Monroe in check for the most part, yet distrusts Paine from the start. Takes a pretty brutal beating from Garza during one of the end scenes.

Hector Almeida - A young south american political revolutionary, last surviving son of Mr. Church's former childhood friend, Juan Alemeida. Former friend of Sandra's and has a brief speech in the beginning of the film.

Mr. Church - a shady, gruff and scarred veteran whose childhood friend was Juan Alemeida. Made lots of money profiteering off War and had been funding Hector's campaign to overthrow Garza. Promised Juan that he'd take care of Hector, but when Hector is assassinated, he pays the Expendables millions of dollars to kill Garza. Sort've the bookend actor in both the beginning and end of the film. The email described Mr. Church's casting as a good surprise "in the works" that will "drop jaws and blow minds".
:D :D

I think Sly's stunt double is getting bored...read about Sly's wild day on the set at

So today I heard Sly say, in an understated way, he was about to do the stunt of his life. Hmmm…sounded pretty cool. I’ve seen some pretty big action dudes do some pretty tricky stunts (no disrespect to the incredible guys who risk life and limb by doing dangerous stunts for a living) so it takes a lot to impress me. well today you can color me impressed…a lot…for real…by Sly. The freakin guy is fearless and pretty much ageless. No matter how I describe what I watched him do - 6 times - it won’t even be close to conveying what it was - a classic old school mano a mano takedown. Keep in mind there were no mats on the ground and Sly was basically bareback - no pads except for on his knees - as he dove, rolled, flipped, growled and punched his way through the scene ending with him breaking a neck. Oh and did I mention the sweltering heat and the hard dusty ground he kept slamming his body into? Sly was bleeding and bruised but after watching the last take he turned around and said “that’s how you teach the children.” Then he set up the next shot while the medics tried to stop the bleeding and clean the dirt and stones out of his arm. I LOVE ACTION MOVIES!!!!
:D :D
The GREATEST :D

Ok that was a freakin long day

After the wild day on Tuesday with Sly’s stunt and Jason Statham showing just how badass he is with a knife, I was kinda hoping for an easier day today. Unfortunately that was not going to happen. We shot on the streets of Rio in what I know only as Boxing Square which I think is near downtown Rio. Eric Roberts and Steve Austin rolled through the fictitious village of Vilena with a military escort. The militia then proceeded to terrorize the locals before driving off. We also shot the scene where Barney and Lee Christmas first meet Sandra, played by Giselle Itie, in a little cantina. We had a lot of lookie loos today which was to be expected but I didn’t see any p’razzi…but I’m sure they were there. We also had the not as funny as they think they are guys from the TV show Panico following us around trying to get close to Sly so they could challenge him to arm wrestle…sheesh what a waste of braincells. At any rate we had 7 scenes to shoot at 4 different locations within the couple of blocks that make up the square. A very ambitious day but with the sunny skies and bearable heat and humidity life was good. Until the thunderstorm hit, delaying the shoot and sending us to lunch early. visitors to the set today included director Fernando Meirelles (City of God, Constant Gardner) and ultimate fighter Vitor Belfort. We wrapped around 9pm and I fell asleep writing this update…we have a late call today - back out to Colonia. Next week, our last week in Rio - we shoot nights…the big battle. one little observation - I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised to see a whole different side of Statham in this movie. Yes of course he is badass, but he and Sly have a real chemistry and the repartee between them reveals character and humor…it is fascinating to watch them together…

on a personal note, I read your comments on this blog and elsewhere and I appreciate the feedback - Sly also reads them…but to be clear, these are my observations unless otherwise posted. I try to write with a little humor and a lot of truth (even though I am a publicist) and for those who write nasty little emails calling me a racist and a hater of Brazil and Brazilians I suggest you re-read what you wrote to me…that’s where you will find the hate, not here.

You have a mancrush on Sly and you dont even know it.

I’m lovin you guys…thanks for following us…I’m gonna try to answer a few questions:

Dolph only works in Nola with Mickey Rourke ( I worked with Mick on “The Pope of Greenwich Village in 1983) Brittany Murphy and Charisma Carpenter. Terry Crews arrived today, Randy Couture tomorrow and Jet Li on Sunday. Lee Christmas (Jason) speaks with a British accent. can’t answer the rating question but I’m also interesed to know so stay tuned. haven’t posted the footage yet as there was a glitch. internet is slow cuz I’m using dial-up most of the time which takes forever, but it’s coming - I have it…we leave Brazil on April 25th and take a 2 week hiatus before resuming in New Orleans on May 11. Rogerio Nogueira plays a “red beret”
:)

siting here in the parking lot across from the beautiful Pargue Loge, an iconic spot in Rio that we are using as General Garza’s palace. Nestled just above the structure is the beautiful statue of Jesus. It’s a clear cool night and I am a happy camper. So for those of you who asked me to stop complaining about the weather…your wish is my commmand.

Sly is directing tonight - he’s not in any of the scenes. the actors all seem pleasantly surprised that he is an actor’s director. I think you will see some damn good performances. Sly is also a visionary - he knows exactly what this movie is and exactly how it should look and is confident enough to make some pretty daring choices.

i asked the art director about the seaplane and he told me it is an Albatross, built in the ’50’s. There were approximately 500 built by Gruman in the US and somewhere between 5 and 30 still fly. Originally used for search and rescue . the one we use in a way too cool scene was piloted by stunt pilot/professional Lynne Hunt. I love the fact the fuel tanks can be jettisoned in case of emergency.

Someone asked how much Sly weighs now - he lost 32 pounds since Rambo and currently weighs in at 180.

Danny Trejo us not in the film. Sly met with him and wanted him but when he rewrote the script he needed a different look.

ok I’m not a big star gazer but i am soooo excited about Jet Li. He starts work on Monday…should be lots to write about when the 3 of them are together.

they jsut called lunch (it’s 11pm) so I’m off to the food room.

here’s a shot from the set in COlonia…my talent as a photographer is a little lacking but you get the point
:)
