Dude, seriously haven't you learned from what Daniel has been posting in this thread. GTFO, this thread is not for people like you. This movie will be pure, testosterone fueled 80's action nonsensical fun. Seriously don't post in this thread anymore unless you have something constructive to add.

I have an opinion to add so I'm going to post it. I don't really give a fuck if you think this movie is for people like me, because it is, I love 80s action movies. Just like you guys get to hype in this thread, I get to say my negative opinion. Constructive discussion isn't one huge circle jerk.

This movie looks like the biggest pice of shit, how anyone could want to see a bunch of washed up, out of their prime movie stars in a crappy action movie is crazy. I lked these guys old movies, and that's what I'll stick to.

Rambo (2008) got a 37% on RT and I liked that film.

Sometimes the critics don't line up with me.

Oh well.

I'm not being serious, but I just don't understand a lot from the hate aimed at this movie. Deep down I know this movie wont be a well reviewed movie and tons of people wont like it but I can't help but be excited for it. Its like a 80's action movie wet dream. I can't help but be excited when I see all these actors that I loved back in the day making a film together. I wont deny it though, everyone has an opinion and that's cool, I just wish people would save their hate for after they see the movie, not before based on reviews and trailers.

Thank you.

Totally agree with ryutaro too. Rambo was fuckin awesome. Though it did seem too short and I didn't really like how the ending just cut off. Still one of my favorite movies and the midnight showing I went to was easily the best time I've ever had at a movie. Place was going crazy. :lol

Rambo IV in theaters was soooooooooo awesome. Me and my friends went the night it came out, we were all kinda drunk by the time we got there. It was so loud and rowdy inside that theater, everyone was yelling. That's definitely the best time I've have watching a movie at the theater.

Amen. Rambo IV was the most fun I've ever had at the theater. I've seen a ton of films, but it still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy thinking how amazing the film was in the theater.

I don't get why it's fine to hype the fuck out of a film without having seen it (Inception), but the same level of passion can't be shared if its negative.

What's not to get? If you think a movie looks bad or don't have an interest in seeing it, why would you have any level of passion? There's only one reason.

Getting excited/looking for more info on something you think will be entertaing, on the other hand, is far from abnormal.

Hell yeah.

Rambo in theaters was bananas but I saw Rocky Balboa with a fucking awesome crowd as well.

We were chanting, "ROCKY!ROCKY!ROCKY!" during the fight at the end along with the screen.

It was epic.

And yeah, I was tearing up when Rocky had that heart to heart with Pauley about Adrienne.. :(

My theater was like that during Rocky IV. It was like they were watching a real fight and we were ringside. :lol They were going nuts when Rocky started beating Drago's ass.

It was awesome.

Totally. The theater I was in erupted when Rambo turned that jeep driver into spaghetti sauce. :lol

If you're a fan of 80's action and were initially hyped about the film when it was in its infancy, then chances are, you're probably passionate towards the project. And if you find the released footage incredibly disappointing, then it's perfectly understandable that you'd channel the before mentioned passion into expressing your disappointment.

Passion and hype works both ways, and to say otherwise is ridiculous. I absolutely loved the initial direction of this film, there are few things that sound better than a throwback to 80s action films with an ensemble cast of this project's stature. I wanted this film to be amazing and I still do, but nothing tangible I've seen to date is giving me reason to think that it will. I'm absolutely heartbroken that my fears could potentially be realized, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with me sharing it. From what I can tell, this is not an appreciation thread, it's a place for people to discuss the positive and negative aspects of the film in question, up until its eventual release when we can frame some legitimate opinions.

I am not sure about how this movie is going to turn out, but we have had at least three films with The Losers, Predators and A-Team that are a bit similar in concept that did not really deliver at the boxoffice. I think it would have a lot of potential if it was not surrounded by so many similar films harking back to our nostalgia for the 80's.

I think the thread would be much more receptive to negative criticism if it was constructed with a bit more care such as you've done. Instead I see snipes by others about how it is like watching a car crash, it's the biggest piece of shit, and other such hyperbole that's unfortunately done for reaction rather than the sake of discussion.

The only review of this movie that matters will be the one from Ruthless Reviews and their 80s action guide, everything else is just snobby film critics ruining it for everyone else. Get the fuck off your high horse and take a look in your pants to see if there's still balls in it or if they have already shriveled from watching too much Little Miss Sunshine and shit.

I just really don't get what the expectations of all those people now claiming to be "disappointed" by the released footage were. Sly wanted to make a 80s action movie with 80s action movie stars. That's what the footage looks like. Yeah, it's gonna be played straight complete with cheesy oneliners, obviously - did anyone really expect anything else?

What the hell should the movie look like if not like this?

I just don't get it.

Oh shit, the movie got a Premiere in Paris on August 5th, Stallone will be there and you can actually buy you ticket for the night (these event are usualy only for people who got connection/win tickets on site/radio) it's a bit more pricey than a regular ticket but it's a chance to see Stallone and the flick two weeks before the official french release.

This is the problem, the movie looks nothing like a throwback to 80s action. It literally looks like your standard contemporary action film with some of the genre's best stars sprinkled in, many of which were prominent during the 80s. Basically, we wanted an 80s action and instead got a film that simply starred 80s action stars. And while that's certainly disappointing, I wouldn't mind too much if it weren't for the fact that even as a contemporary action film, The Expendables looks like hot garbage.

This. It doesn't look like an 80's action movie. Not like a good one anyway. More like a shittastic mid-90s Sly movie

You should check out Vern. He wrote a book called Seagalogy: the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal.

His review will matter.

That's nice. Nothing wrong with that opinion.

Now, are you going to repeat this post for the next 10 pages?

And how is it supposed to look like an 80's movie? It's impossible without basically setting it in the 80's with a bunch of retrograding done to the look.

You keep making general statements of what we are getting when you haven't actually seen it. The trailers for it look like crap though, but will see. Had low hopes for Rambo with it's weak ass trailers as well which tried to appeal to a newer generation with awful numetal and shit, but the movie still rocked.

Dude, seriously.

You're becoming really fucking annoying.

If it makes 40m or 4m it's opening weekend, why are are trolling for the sake of trolling?

So you can say, "hurr, hurr, hurr, I told you so" at some point?

We get it, you want to see this movie crash and burn.

You wanna see it fail so you can reap bitter tears that I don't think your gonna see--certainly not from me.

As a huge fan of Sly as a writer/director, and as someone who loved the last Rocky and Rambo, I cant say that I'm super hyped on what has been shown so far, but I have a feeling that he is holding out on showing any of the really good stuff in the previews. I'm really curious as to how hard R this movie really is. If it has Story Of Ricky levels of gore like Rambo did, I'll be surprised.

On another note, remember that scene in Cliffhanger when Gabe impaled that one dude on a ceiling of stalactites? God that was awesome!

I get normal trolls wanting to see the movie suck. I don't get DanielPlainview trolling though. The guy's a huge movie buff, so he should be elated just to see a project where the people involved actually give a shit about what they're creating.

Yeah, a lot of people won't like it, but would you rather keep seeing schlock like the A-Team or GI Joe eat up the moviegoers dollars mere weeks after the producers admit that they don't even know what the properties are based on? The fact that a guy like Stallone believed in his idea so much that he's seeing it through from start to finish SHOULD be a breath of fresh air for mainstream Hollywood and movie-goers. But it won't be, cuz everyone will be so busy trying to say why it sucks for pegging every action movie convention that it's trying to lightly parody.

This movie is basically the cinematic equivalent to a major sports league all-star game. Everyone shows up and has their exhibition game, but it's not even about the game. Nobody watches those games for the score... they watch to see all the talent having fun with each other and doing the flashiest things that the medium allows.

Oh well. I'll go back to just perusing the thread now. Just had to speak up. :D

12-year-old kid reviews The Expendables

"it's the fucking best action movie I've ever seen."

"better than Rambo, better than Rocky, better than all the Bourne movies."

"better than I think Stallone's ever done I think."

"it was like Rambo x10."

“You will be so pumped after you watch it. I high-fived my friend like ten times in this movie.”

:lol
