The First Episode of the Mandalorian > TLJ

Though I suppose it wasn’t that hard, but there I said it, I’m in the UK and I Have now seen it, it’s out there if you know how 🏴‍☠️ not waiting until March.

Even if they somehow screw up some episodes later on, they can’t take the first 40 minute episode away now.

It felt like a Star Wars on a TV show budget in places, I don’t know if it was the quality of the rip or if it how it was shot but the colour tone felt like it was from the 80’s, which is fine since it’s set after ROTJ, there was a CGI creature that made it look out of place but i’d take that cgi any day over the bullshit that was TLJ.

On one hand it sounds interesting on the other hand it sounds like more fake reboot nostalgia. It’s Not Boba Fett it’s a totally new character! It’s not IG-88 it’s a totally new character! Yes all these other bounty hunters were in that one ESB scene with Boba Fett but believe us, all totally new!

Like if they want to make a Boba Fett fan fiction I’d have more respect for them to just own it rather than these pathetic “actually...” dodges.

I mean it's not like there wasn't a series that went on for six seasons and there was an entire planet of Mandalorians...

It’s not amazing but feels good like the OT Star Wars again to me, biggest complaints I have seen is that it’s too fan servicey which at this point I will take, I wasn’t expecting anything new, if you have seen the trailers you know what you are in for a bounty hunter western that feels like it’s set in the OT era with some fan service.

Some people love it, some people meh on it, but at least so far no one has said it’s TLJ bad or Prequel era bad, so there is that.

It May just be better than what Disney have put out in the cinemas so far, though I didn’t mind Rogue One because that also feels like OT stuff.

This Werner Herzog interview is incredible!

Favreau has made some highly successful films recently; did you feel an element of pressure working with him?
I do not know what other films he has made.

You don’t?

No.

He made “The Lion King” earlier this year with Beyonce and Donald Glover.

Well I like “The Lion King,” but the animated version 30 years back or so. That was a wonderful film, the music was particularly great, Hans Zimmer’s score.

Isn't it somewhat cannon that Mandalorians wear similar armor and that IG series droids are going to look like an IG series droid? How are those "pathetic “actually...” dodges. "?

so doesnt the ending

kinda make yoda to old at 900?

being generous here but

50 is still a baby so
100 is toddler
200 is grade school
400-600 high school
600-900 is somehow prime, middle and old age

I don’t know that canon. As a casual viewer it feels the same as “it’s not the rebellion it’s the resistance!” or “Snoke is an all powerful dark sider but he’s not a Sith!” Sure, buddy

I don’t hate it I’m just pointing it out. Might just check out this show, it just feels a little too eager to please and seem hip, the Herzog casting is throwing me off, that guy I’ve loved as a weird documentary filmmaker for decades, now he’s in this, feels like meme stunt casting. Ditto with Carl Weathers.

I found out Bryce Dallas Howard directed and episode of this, yet she hasn’t directed a thing in her life. Dat nepotism at work

Honestly, I thought it was going to be badass from the trailers, but in truth, that was a pretty pedestrian episode of TV in terms of both direction and action ( The fight at the end was some A-Team awfulness). turns out Filoni directed it rather than Favreau..... butwhy.gif..

The Mandalorians always wear their helmet thing seems like big mistake because the whole reason you sign Pedro Pascal is he's a suave charming motherfucker. You kind of lose that when you stick a helmet on him which albeit might be cool on the outside is probably a complete pain in the ass to try and act in.

Tlj gets better with each rewatch and many problems I had while watching it upon reflection aren't that big of a deal anymore.

I still hate the casino world scenes though. Movie would be better off without them.

Pascal was barely on set supposedly. It's likely a double whenever you see the mask.

Better than the 2nd best Star Wars movie? Hmm...

Anyways it's got Bill Burr shooting people with lasers, so I'm in.

1. Empire
2. A New Hope
3. Return
🤔

I wouldn’t say it was better than ANH or ROTJ, but after those on the OT list, just below ROTJ yeah maybe depending how the rest of the Season goes, I could see it fourth on the list.

First episode was okay. It's about on par with TLJ (if you can even make such a comparison this early in) but without the movie budget visuals.

I'm actually keen on watching the next episode, which is something I didn't expect before going in. The bounty hunter storyline seems like it can produce some decent thrills and adventure.

kind of hard to make judgements on the series after a single 40 minute episode. for a first episode, i thought it was pretty good. Lots to like. Not much to dislike, tbh. A solid start and we'll see how it goes. Many characters still to introduce, and I highly doubt we're going to go all the way through the season without seeing him take the helmet off. Yes it ties back to Mandalore in the Clone Wars series, and while they sure loved their helmets it's not like they never took them off.

I'll add, one tidbit that i really found interesting was when he went to the armorer and had the pauldron made, I wonder if upgrading his armor over the season is going to be a theme. Like he gets rewarded with a new piece of armor every time he accomplishes something for the Mandalorians.

Started off really slow, the first 10 minutes seemed like a Star Wars short you’d expect to see on YouTube.

Last 15 minutes were really good, I’ll watch

Every SW movie that comes out seems pretty similar in marketing............. it looks serious and gritty. Then you watch the movie and half the time it's campy with jokes and characters quipping zingers at each other.

Mandalorian PR is serious and gritty.

But is the show like that too? Or is it jokes every other minute?

Serious and gritty. Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is no lack of death in this episode nor is it lack of feels.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
It was decent. Felt like a pilot for a show they've already made. Looks fantastic, but that's never really been the problem with Star Wars. I think it's definitely got potential.

I'll say this at least, I'm far more interested in the next episode of this show than I am at the prospect of Episode 9.
