The full FFXIV Stormblood trailler

I sincerely hope that they will do a better job with pacing the story. Since we are going to 2 locations in totally different regions, they should probably have the main story of the expac be in one area, and then have the story of the patches be in the other.

Don't fuck this up again.

Man, this expansion looks so rad. I quit HW really early on, so there's assloads of content I haven't touched yet. If I'm going to get Stormblood, I have a LOT of HW content to get through. @_@

no moghome and we good

If you pick up the bundle, does that one month start or do you get to use the free trail up first? Just thinking how to extend the free time as much as possible for as little as possible..

I understand what you're trying to do, but I'm afraid I'm not sure how the licensing works. So sorry about that. Maybe somebody else here knows?

You should be able to get thought the main story stuff in time. Also don't sleep on the HIldebrant saga

I was afraid that's going to be the case. Though it makes me wonder what will happen if (for example) I buy the game now since it's on sale but NOT download it to my PS4 until my trial period is over. Oh well. This isn't really helping Johnlenham so he might as well just keep that restriction in mind.

Thanks for looking it up!

save for that 6 hour stretch of moogles dicking around and literally just trolling you and wasting your time.

Protip (this goes for anyone, really): Don't waste time doing most of those moogle side quests when you're first progressing through the MSQ. Only do the ones that unlock aether currents, then move on, saving the rest for a second job/after you have flying in the Churning Mists unlocked. There are a butt load of those quests and they send you all over that map; the Churning Mists is much easier to navigate when you can fly in it. This is what I did back in 2015 when Heavensward came out and I didn't have that bad aftertaste of that area that many other players did.

This is true for every area of HW. It isn't worth your time to travel back and forth, since sidequests in those areas are like 50% story chains that constantly send you back out somewhere. When you can fly and do them all in batches before return trips, it's infinetly easier.

All I need from this game now are cute tops, maybe some skirts that aren't terrible.

Who do I have to punch to get a non-lingerie tank top-ish shirt? The glamour DEMANDS it.

I really hope they let us be more liberal with the glamours. I mean, they're freaking glamours so they don't really have to make a lot of sense! I'm a male Hyur and WHM is my main. It's already awful to see this big burly man with animation clearly intended for female characters, so why not let me wear decent stuff at least? Oh well. /rant

Still hyped for Stormblood though.

I've never played FFXIV, as an outsider that was a very boring CG trailer that doesn't get me interested in the world. The cities looked fantastical enough but the fights were very boring and there was nothing else to justify it being nearly 5 minutes. Thats a bottom tier FF trailer in general.

I've heard Palace of the Dead is the way to level now? Roulettes were what eventually had me quitting. Doing the same dungeons over and over again after a year of playing the game were a drag.

HW is good tho. :)

While it is very good, doing roulettes is not, especially after a year of playing the game. It was pretty much the only way I was going to level high enough to keep doing the story.

Palace of the Dead is where you can get really nice weapons, but it's not where you level, since it has its own separate XP/level that only applies in the Palace.

Incorrect, clearing a set of 10 in POTD grants you immense exp once you finish. Something like a half of a level from 30ish to a third and less in the 50s, ish.

I'm excited for the xpac, but as someone who loves desert areas I hope there's a lot more of More Doughna than Doma.

You should watch the Realm Reborn trailer, which shows the final battle and destruction of the FFXIV 1.0 world by Meteor, that is one of the best videos Square has made.

Good to know on weapons. I've been stuck with my relic weapon for far too long.

What about leveling? Is roulettes still the best way to go, if you're unable to continue the story due to level requirements?

You get "real" exp everytime you finish a set of 10 floors in PotD. It's a good place to level up since the queues are short, gear item level doesn't matter and the party makeup isn't rigid like regular dungeons. Most people tend to grind floors 51-60.

Daily leveling roulette still gives a nice chunk of exp. FATEs are pretty much dead.

Palace of the dead is where everyone is leveling now. There's no role restrictions for it, it just dumps the first 4 people queued for that floor set together so wait times are no less than 5 mins during most times and usually instant pop. Clearing 10 floors takes anywhere from 15 to 30 mins depending on your group and gives you a set percentage of the xp you need to lv. At 50+ you're looking at a few runs to reach your next lv.

Holy shit, that sounds so much better than roulettes. Maybe I will hop back in soon.

Good to know. Sounds like if I really want to get my next level to continue story, I should still do PoTD.

Just saw this trailer, gave me slight tears of happiness seeing sam in. Almost enough to want me to buy the games just to level it for a bit and quit. Watching people play has been quite boring, playing was very boring, but people seemed to only play the same thing over and over on twitch unfortunately.

I'll be checking out people messing around with red mage and sam if possible. I still want to see people doing stuff with Rune Fencer, and Geomancer, I still don't have much of a clue what Geo is good at. Will head to youtube to see if there are different videos of those characters now.

I linked the trailer to some CG aficionados and they were properly floored.

Having not played FFXIV in a while now - do they have other updates planned for this expansion? Old class updates? UI changes?

Yeah, I stopped playing a couple months ago, but PotD was the easiest way for me to level up my WHM to 60, and allowed me to get a decent sense of the skill set. That said, learning a class/job in PotD is not quite the same as doing actual dungeons, as I roulette'd into Gubal for my first real dungeon as WHM and ended up screwing my team.

Jobs will get specific UI elements to help them better visualize their specific mechanics (MNK's Greased Lightning, DRG's Blood of the Dragon, BLM's Enochian) instead of having to watch their buff bar as closely as they do now. On top of getting new actions, they're also cleaning up what is already there by merging actions together and removing or changing useless stuff. Some jobs are supposed to get pretty extensive reworks.

Highly unlikely. It will probably go down like this.
1) LIBERATE ALA MIHGO
2) It's too hard.
3) LIBERATE DOMA AS A DIVERSION!
4) Quick! While they are distracted, lets go back and Liberate Ala Mihgo!
5) Didn't quite liberate Ala Mihgo. We'll wrap that up in patches.

Really nice CG... FFXIV definitely has an interesting world to it. Kind of makes me want to resub. Only ever hit lv.30 + unlocked Dragoon...
... Except atm I can't remember my Squenix account password, and the email address I no longer have access to x_x (changed from a .ca to a .net account)

Ah yeah I would prefer PC but my laptop could barely run the previous version of this game!

Something to keep in mind: the 1.0 version of the game was pretty demanding technically. The devs held a GDC presentation about it where they said the old dev team made flower pots out of the same amount of polygons as player characters. It was insane. There's a decent chance the new versions runs better for you. Here's the benchmark if you'd like to try: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/

As for your questions about getting as much free time as possible, if you want to buy the game cheap now you can do so and just don't register it. Once the two weeks are up go into your account and add the game key, enabling the free month.

I really wish I could have played 1.0, but it barely ran on my PC. I'm up to Heavensward now, but I still feel like I'm missing something, having played the sequel without the original game.

I think the trailer is already enough long to be a complete version of it. For Heavensward they followed the same pattern: teaser and the full one, like they already did for Stormblood. They can add a recap of sort of the events in the main quest but this won't add anything to the incoming story of the expansion. Anyway the undersea palace remind me a lot of Okami.

The full Heavensward trailer didn't come out until after 2.55, because it contained spoilers for the MSQ, and it wouldn't surprise me if they release another one after 3.56.

Wow, good thing I don't remember anything about the trailer I must have watched way back.

Excellent, thank you.
He forgot to mention swimming.

Swimming!

Good timing since i'll finally be upgrading my PC before then. Also maybe general life stuff will calm down a bit...I havent been online in a very long time lol. I think i'm still in Azys La?

I felt similarly. The game fills in gaps regarding the Cataclysm event that opens ARR, but I still feel the game could really benefit from a codex of sorts for a quick reminder of major characters and events. Especially if only to provide some basic info on the role many had in 1.0.

Even worse, having put so much time into the game off and on with resubs over the years, I return and feel totally lost as I had forgotten so much detail surrounding characters and events. I suppose wikis exist for helpful primers, but would be nice to have something in-game.

Just a real minor nitpick as either I too often am not so motivated to look up webpages as I would a proper codex to get a refresher. (Like now as I resubbed after nearly 8mo of inactivity and may as well be skipping cutscenes given how lost I feel diving back into patch MSQ content).

This series will change your mind

Thanks for the link, I will give a watch.

Cheers for the responses guys.

Still not actually got to play it, I spent all afternoon downloading the trail, to find out that apparently I did the trail two years ago.
So I then had to make an new psn, new email and new playonline login..once all that shite was done I then hit another page that had another boat load of updates..

Hopefully in the morning it will have finished. I think ill just do the trail and see how it goes, worst case ill pay slightly more to get a hardcopy online

Be aware the game ties itself to your PSN account. So if you do the trial on an alt PSN account and want to continue playing that same character, you'll have to purchase/register the game on the alt account and will only be able to play on that account.

Yeah Ive kind of resided to the fact it will be separate but its not really a big deal .

Kicking myself for not buying the game when it was £22 for both parts on PSN... Im now hooked on the trail but ive nearly hit level 20 on Marauder and Rogue and want to upgrade/use the marketplace etc.

Now the psn copy is £40 and physical copys are £20 for one part and £15 for the other :/ Might just bitw on the first part and upgrade down the line.

I'm really late to the party, but I'm gonna throw in my hat with those complaining about the glut of DPS jobs now. Totally stupid of them to do it that way. Yeah, sure, you didn't see a whole lot of new tanks and healers with DRK and AST, but how many tanks and healers are you going to lose with the new jobs? I main warrior and really, really wanted to play samurai but now I'm going to have to suffer as DPS if I want to play it and that just really ticks me off.

Really, I think the whole game just has some really fundamental issues with the rigidity of the class roles. Wish they'd give us more stuff like the summoner/scholar split so we can play multiple roles with the same "class". Blade & Soul got it right - the same class with a different build can be a 100% focused damage dealer or an absolute tank or even just a support with lots of CC. No such flexibility here. I'm totally spoiled, I guess.

I'm still gonna want to experience the new content, but, man, that really puts a damper on my enthusiasm. Still no clue what dropping PS3 support is going to add to the game, either. I'm glad they dropped it, but some details would be nice! Ah, well. Maybe next time.
