The full FFXIV Stormblood trailler

It's a Japanese style city...

Was gonna say that. The only thing that looked remotely Chinese on that video (at least to me) were the red bridges.Add to that the fact that it's Doma and it's supposed to be where the Ninjas and Samurais are from...

Well, no. I'd bet it's a lot harder to develop a job and balance it with all the others than it is to develop a dungeon or beast tribe. We already see some jobs not balanced well and left getting left behind some, if they keep adding a bunch of classes with each expansion it's only going to get worse. I think they fucked up by having three new ones in HW, now people are going to want three every expansion and I don't think that sustainable. I feel they'll eventually start running out of jobs to make that feel unique. And then what's the point of making new ones if they'll play similar to an existing one?

Also, we're not getting less.

This. Look no further to what happened to the PLDs and WHMs. I'd prefer to have less but effective classes than have so many but seem to suffer from an identity crisis. Can't wait to see how they will fix the WHM since that's my main. Aside from that, I'm more interested with the new content and how they will follow up the amazing Heavensward campaign.

What's wrong with White Mage?

What's wrong with White Mage?

Not as bad as what happened with the PLDs, but it's not uncommon for endgame raids to specifically look for a SCH-AST combo than involve a WHM. White Mages are statistically still the biggest healers in the game but the others aren't so far behind. Where the others get the upper hand are their superior party utility. WHMs can DPS, of course, but it's limited by the fact that they need to keep an eye out for their MP pool. I've mostly gotten myself accustomed to doing exactly that, but it's still possible to run OOMP.

What's wrong with White Mage?
There's nothing inherently wrong with White Mage. When they released Astrologian as the third healing job, it was so underpowered that they had to gradually buff it to make it raid viable. The last round of buffs made it overpowered, which pushed WHM out of the meta. It doesn't help that both jobs have very similar toolkits and near identical playstyle.

True. I actually already started leveling my AST class exactly for this reason. The only thing holding me back is how to setup my hotbar (playing on the PS4) with all the AST abilities and skills. There seems to be so many, at least on first glance. I also have to familiarize myself with the nomenclature of AST skills as they're not as straightforward as the WHM's. I mean, at least you know you'll heal someone when your ability says Cure, right? LOL

I must admit that i don't like MMORPGs and don't plan to play XIV anytime soon, but goddamn if each of it's CGI trailers from the very 1.0 beginning created very belieavable worlds filled with adventures that i'd love to live.
Hats off to them, hope the speculation that some of them are working on XVI are true.

I really hope they can give Machinist a shot in the arm and make it a viable alternative to other top tier dps classes. I was so excited for that job when I first heard about it but quickly saw that by trying to walk the line between dps and support it was pretty damn mediocre at both. (Granted, ignore all the previous if it's been rebalanced in the last 9 months or so since I went on hiatus)

So glad Samurai is a DPS. Also nice it shares gear with MNK. Will have to save an extra 8 A12 tokens for Samurai when SB launches.

Did they say anything about when they'll unlock Creator Savage? Still neee my WAR weapon and both MNK Weapon/Chest

They didn't mention anything about unlocking Savage so I don't think it's going to be a thing before 3.56 at the very least.

How does this game play on the PS4? would now be a decent time to jump in? the last time I tried it was back with the intial pre reborn time.

Im kinda tempted to try it but I sunk an ungodly amount of time into their last MMO, something like a years worth of play time.

PS4 version is pretty good, populated areas though can drop the fps somewhat but otherwise it's between 30 and 60fps. I play on both PS4 and PC.

Machinist is actually pretty incredible now. It can put out fantastic numbers on its own, and its Hypercharge buff is crazy good.

And here I was hoping it'd be in 2 weeks with 3.55...

At the top end, MCH is probably the best DPS out there at the moment. In an 'optimal' setting, every group will want a MCH for Hypercharge and stuff like Rend Mind and more are very useful. As a tank main I'd pick Ninja as the first class I'd choose to play with, but Machinist would be second

This makes me happy! I'm gonna have to resub soon to take it for a spin and get ready for the expac

I'm actually considering playing FFXIV holy shit. Mostly because of Smurai but still...
Game is on sale this week across all platforms I think. There's also a 2 week trial available if you wanna try before committing.

What's wrong with PLD these days? I see a lot of people complaining about it. I main Warrior and haven't played properly since I finished HW.

Lame & corny.

Someone edit "Kirito Strife" name on top of this nerd.

He learned from the best

Do it. It's the best overall FF product this decade.

Given how it started, that feels incredible to say, but it's true.

So true. I think every FF fan should play the main quest, at least, the final boss of Heavensward was one of my greatest moment of gaming recently. A good balance of original content and FF classic elements, I hope to go back to the game soon.

I always enjoyed FF11's storys, they really were the best mmo quests at the time

It is indeed. I started last October and boy did I wish I started sooner. It's a lot of fun to play and the story, particularly Heavensward, is amazing.

Oh reaaally?

Yep, now is the best time to do so. Start with the 14-day trial then continue with the free 30 days that's included with ARR. You essentially get 1.5 months for free and that's ample time to finish ARR if you stick with the main quests only. I got to Heavensward even before my first month was done. LOL

How is it with a controller? I heard SE is making a Pro patch. My PC is kinda old.

Not aware with a Pro patch but the game runs perfectly fine on PS4. Maybe I'm just not too sensitive about it but the framerate never falls to terrible, unbearable levels even on 24-man raids.

It adds so little to the table.

Monk fell out of the meta hard, since drks have delirium which removed the only real utility monks had outside of a stronger mantra. WARs are mandatory, and since a good DRK can dish out numbers several hundred higher than a pld, it puts a bigger strain on needing healer deeps to make up the difference. Also, as a main tank, a dark has more tools to help them through magic and physical attacks. Plds also have TP issues in longer fight and are also incredibly dull to play sadly.

I hear this a lot from PLDs who still play as that, and I think it's quite sad. It's really why I'm okay with not having a new tank or healing jobs in Stormblood, because they have yet to strike a good balance between the ones that are available now. S-E can probably get away with this (for now at least) because you can hold any job with just one character.

Yes, it is.Sorry about the late response. Was writing the above when you posted yours. :-)

I wish FFXIV had the same courage on some choices about the story and lore. FFXI story, especially in the first three expansion, was enough dark like the slumbering gods backstory, Promathia/Altana and the beastmen/cities conflict.

It's famous for having the best controller play of any game of its kind out there. It plays great with a controller. About the only thing you'd want additionally is a cheap USB keyboard for chatting - you can get by without one, but a keyboard for communication helps the experience a fair bit.

It is getting a Pro patch some time between now and Stormblood launch. It still plays great as a "standard" PS4 game, though. The Pro patch will be more about increasing the number of incidental items or players on screen in crowded areas, things like that.

Yeah for sure, the first intro for the first game is still one of my favourites along with Demon Souls. The music makes em.

So free trail> basegame for a month then pick up heaven sword?

Yes. Get the 14-day trial on the PSN. The character you create here and all progress you make can be carried over once you purchase the retail version of FF XIV (ARR).

As much as I loved Heavensward, I would not recommend purchasing it right away just in the off case that you end up not liking the base game. That said, I think ARR and HW are on sale now so they might be worth picking up anyway.

Just bought Heavensward on PS4. I had pretty much every single class/job at level 50 in 1.0 but didn't really play much in ARR, coil was the newest things when I stopped playing so I have a lot to catch up on. Hope I can find a good FC on Ragnarok to give me some pointers on everything I have missed.

Hey my wife and I are on ragnarok too :)!
You can send me a pm if you want to play together

Incredible; this trailer has gotten me hyped for FFXIV in a way I have not gotten since vanilla ARR. Samurai job finally making the cut is so exciting.

What's the best way to get back in if I have lapsed since Vanilla? Should I buy Heavenward or preorder Stormblood? Understand that it comes with the Heavensward expansion as well, but can I play immediately?

I'm also considering I might switch over to PS4 since my computer is all sorts of wonky now; in that case is there some kind of full package with stormblood that lets me play now?

To anyone saying, "but new skills!" or "but they have to balance what's already there first!" Why doesn't that apply to DPS? Its my understanding that DPS classes are pretty lopsided in terms of damage and usefulness, but throwing two more jobs onto that pile is A-Okay? And everyone gets new skills, so that's hardly a reason to shut out new tank or healer jobs.

I hate this mentality that a job basically isn't a "real" job unless it's DPS. Tons of people complained that Dark Knight was stolen away from them, as if it's not a fully designed job with great animations and SFX. There's zero reason to have BOTH jobs be DPS except to placate the people that can't handle any sort of responsibility or not seeing big damage numbers. 4/6 of the new jobs added to the game have been DPS. That is in no way fair.

As a tank main, my hype just deflated like crazy. I still love the story and so want to see that, but the focus on the lowest common denominator along with the shitty excuses really pisses me off. I would've been fine with dancer as healer, and no new tank job. Feels like a slap in the face for an already catered to demographic getting a double helping of love. Why should I expect anything different next expac? Because I seriously doubt they'll do healer and tank only next time.

I think the funniest thing to come out of this is the people who have this weird view that it's wrong for tanks and healers to want something new to play. On the reddit there's a bunch of people getting hostile towards tanks and healers who express any kind of dismay over not getting a new job to play.

There is already a bundle for ARR and Heavensward available on the PlayStation Store and it's actually on sale now. Unfortunately I can't say how much it is considering how the store works if you already purchased the title previously. Here's the link for the combo (US PS4 version) if you're interested.

I don't think Stormblood will not be bundled this early so you might want to just pre-order it for the time being.

If you pick up the bundle, does that one month start or do you get to use the free trail up first? Just thinking how to extend the free time as much as possible for as little as possible..

I was expecting to see more story in the trailer, instead they showed only a bunch of locations. They're trying to sell the expansion more on exploration of new places than setting a story like they did with Heavensward.

Anyway, still don't understand why have an entire chinese styled city in a fantasy world where you can have a lot more of creative design. I think can appeal to some players but it's a trope we've already seen too many times.
I wouldn't say that style is holding the "fantasy" back. The new areas they showed look incredible IMO.

Why are they in a Chinese style city but...

Why are there these bad posts...

Man, I just rewatched the trailer and I already know that what I assume to be the main Stormblood motif at the end will be put to great use. I can't wait to hear more of what Soken has in store (and the full theme).

Not having had an Asian-influenced location when we already have the Monk and Ninja jobs would be pretty weird, even more so with the (late as hell) addition of Samurai.
