The full FFXIV Stormblood trailler

They realized that tanks and healers will put up with whatever so there's no point in developing new jobs for those kinds of players to enjoy anymore.

Just more DPS jobs from this point on.

Samurai's a DPS instead of tank, so I'm going to look into leveling that first since whatever I level to the cap first will likely be my main since I'll have the most progress on it compared to everything else. Tanks getting treated like a third wheel makes this more attractive.

Heavensward was great for tanks because we got Dark Knight which is a lot more fun to play than Paladin and arguably Warrior. For tank players looking to play a new tanking job they get nothing this expansion (same for healers).

The combat revamp is just code for some potency and cd time changes. They are not going to be drastically different from how they are now, in other words Paladin is still going to suck and you're just going to have two choices (Warrior and Dark Knight) if you want to play and have fun at the same time as a tank.

This is all silly.

Of course they are going to be making new tank and healer jobs. They just can't make four or five new jobs each expansion. We will probably see a new tank and healer next time.

What they said is that creating new tank jobs doesn't increase the number of tank players, which is to be expected. People gravitate towards the roles they enjoy playing.

And to be honest, I hope they don't mess with Paladin too much. If you find Dark Knight more fun to play, then go ahead and play Dark Knight. I love Paladin for what it is. They can make some improvements to its raid viability, but I don't want them to mess with its playstyle.

Honestly as a tanking main if they fix what needs to be done for tanks. Parry, odd timers on skills, disparity of utility skills, TP starving and general balance between the trio then fuck it. I'm 100% in.

I was never going to swap out of tanks and they realized that with DRK. Tanks from 2.0 were tanks in 3.0 as they said in the keynote. SAM tank wouldn't introduce much more tanks into the role so w/e. Give me mass changes in the 3 tank jobs I already play to death and I'm golden.

At least the next 4 years. The clouded area in the center is the big bad empire which we're supposed to face in 5.0.

Caster DPS players got nothing last expact
Support DPS players got nothing this expac

Tanks and healers will live.

It's a bummer about no new tank but then they can't keep adding three classes each expansion. Also, if tank and healer players didn't move over to DRK and AST maybe that says something more about the classes and less about the players.

The only problem with this logic is it excuses any reduction in content.

"They can't keep making three dungeons per patch"
"They can't keep making three classes"
"They can't keep making that many beast tribes."
"They can't keep making that many primals..."

This expansion supposedly had a much larger budget than Heavensward, so to get "less" is a bummer.

Paladin doesn't suck at all. It's just a class that's really good at tanking...and not much else. They're boring as hell but i personally think they're easily the best TANK in the game.

They are not going to release multiple DPS classes without Tanks or Healers. That is moronic, the queue times will be skewed to hell. That already happened once with Rogue/Ninja and it was horrible.

And the combat revamp is probably going to have something to do with the increasing amount of skills and the increasing reliability on form maintenance. (Blood of the Dragon / Enochian / Greased Lightning / whatever).

It looks so good!!!

I was hoping the new housing they were adding would be in Ishgard. New place looks really cool but Ishgard is more my cup of tea.

Haven't played XIV in a long, long time. How overwhelmed would I be if I came back into it now?

There is likely to be a lot of new content...but I think it shouldn't be too bad. Unless you haven't played since day 1 in which case you will have probably somewhere between 300-500 Main Story Quests, dozens of dungeons etc to catch up on.

Frick. I wish days had 48 hours in them to play all these games and still play this.

Really itching to get back into XIV, I played free 30 days absolutely loved it, just hard for me to play these type of games anymore.

Since there's a sale on Steam for FFXIV, If I have an account on PS4, is there any downside to getting the PC version too? Would everything transfer over? I assume it's not a cross play where you can go back and forth.

I can't remember exactly, and especially with regards to Steam, as I know there's some shenanigans there, but I think you need to make sure you apply the PC key to the same service account that your PS4 character is on in your mogstation profile. Check up on it though, as I've only ever done it the other way around (adding a PS3/4 key to a service account that I'd already been playing on PC.

But as for the cross play, you can go back and forth after you've set it up and play the same character. Not everything syncs, like macros / hotbars / UI etc.

Caucasian kungfu fighters?
Caucasian samurai jack?
Idk, too much white washing going on?
Me thinks you are a bit racist with your accusations. First of all this is a fictional world, the studio could've portrayed the characters with any colour or in game race and chose to use warrior of light for monk and what looks to be a new trainer for samurai. As for the others we see a few of the other races from Eorza in the trailer as well.

Trailer was amazing anyway, would I be able to play as red mage day 1 if only finished the main story?

Thanks. I've been meaning to get back in (still haven't touched Heavensward content, so now seems like a good time.

Unfortunately I've gotten locked out of my account because I have no idea what my registration password and have the mobile security app associated with my account. Gonna have to talk to Square's customer support.

I just finished the MSQ for the first time yesterday so it's perfect that this dropped today, made me even more excited to just keep playing, the CG was gorgeous as always. Do kinda wish they would add a new race though.

It's also on sale on the Square-Enix store, so you can still get the PC version minus all of Steam's shenanigans. Can confirm that moving between it and the PS4 version is nearly seamless (just need to set your hotbars again, that kind of thing). Everything you do on one version transfers to the other. I always get a kick from logging out on PC and then later loading it up on PS4 and seeing I'm in the same spot.

I mean, isn't that exactly what they are doing?

Just found out Samurai was DPS. Silly idea if you ask me.

Granted...it's not going to be nearly as severe as Ninja was because it's a lv50 job and not a brand new lv1 class.

But i'm awaiting the DPS apocalypse come June.

Edit:

I should mention though, in hindsight i'm actually really happy Samurai isn't a tank. It's always been a silly alignment to me...fighting style that emphases murdering people in as few strokes as possible is given the "Tank" part of "tank n spank?"

It is cross play. Everything is identical except for a few Dx11 features on PC. (and lack of an ability to parse, if you care for such things.)

It's aggravating how your hotbars, macros and gear loadouts don't get transferred, though. But it's worth it, for me to be able to play XIV over a friend's house without needing to bring my PC.

The trailer has me hyped like every other FFXIV trailer. Watching it again made me realise that Othard is the origins of the Au Ra race so I hope there's some lore about them in the game along with Yugiri's story.

That's basically where I'm at hahaha. When I left the primal people we having issues with was Garuda. :lol

They're the best tank in fights that solely have physical damage, which isn't the last fight in this raid tier that has magic only tankbusters and cleaves. So you need to bring a monk for the INT debuff. (or a dark knight, but then the dark knight is main tanking and the paladin is offtanking, defeating the purpose) this then also leads to the fact two of their cooldowns become useless in this fight, as they can't use shelltron to block the tankbusters or bulwark to help mitigate the cleaves. It's just not really optimal and places a big strain on the healers because their cooldown rotation for the fight is rather limited.

Every job is viable outside of speed kills, especially at this point in the patch cycle, but the stigma against paladin will probably continue into stormblood without a rework. (or new abilities that cover their current weakness in the meta)

do you still need materia for dungeon/raid gear? didnt play for a long time and would have no gil or craftjobs
There's plenty of ways to get materia without spending money. The ARR beast tribe quests at rank 3 offer a choice from 3 Grade IV materia at their 3rd reputation rank, and you can get Grade Vs weekly from the latest 24 man raid (Dun Scaith) as well as trade in Gelmorran Potsherds from Palace of the Dead for Grade V materia. Additionally, this is not necessary for most of the game. Story dungeons and trials will always be doable without melding materia and just meeting the item level required for the instances.

The only problem with this logic is it excuses any reduction in content.

This expansion supposedly had a much larger budget than Heavensward, so to get "less" is a bummer.
The three dungeons per patch was already addressed since they did all the experimental content in the form of Diadem and Palace of the Dead since that'd take up development/planners that would otherwise be working on other battle content (one was a success, the other was not.) while the groundwork for two jobs only was laid long ago in an interview where Yoshi said that three jobs for Heavensward was too much work. (And you look at the bandaid fixes AST and MCH got and it's obvious, while DRK received only a few adjustments)

I think you also are forgetting that ARR's patch cycle only had two new primals that didn't come from the base game or 1.0, so the amount of "new" work they did was very little.

Holy shit the amount of content that is going to be in this expansion is insane!

Just to make sure, we're getting new zones on both the main continent and this new one, correct?
