Ryan thumbing through Brad's wallet and saying I'm really trying here Brad was great :lol

Now bring on the 3DS unboxing video!! :D Do you think the news made it in time for the Bombcast? Do they record Monday nights or Tuesday mornings?

Can't wait to hear Ryan say Nintendo announces the DS 3..D! which will be followed by 5 minutes of hilarious confusion on what that even means

I know they recorded this one last night, it was mentioned in the uStream drive home. But sometimes they rerecord a bit and tack it on at the beginning if big news breaks after they've already recorded the regular podcast.

Also, Brad pulling a Brad while not even watching was awesome.

My god, that game seems so bad. It looked so clunky i think i actually might get nightmares about it.

It is clunky, but Jeff choosing the slow guy with the weapon with long long animations didnt help :S

i've never played a monster hunter game before, and i thought it looked awesome

maybe i'll be able to put demon's souls away for now

Ah alright. But still , damn. Also, the flexing after a potion would make me turn off the game if i died because of it :p

Why on earth did Jeff's character have to flex his muscles after drinking every single potion? I understand that MH is not meant to be a standard hack and slash and your character has realistic limits, but that just seems like Capcom is purposefully making the game as clunky and uninviting as possible.

More Monster Hunter apologists pretending the gameplay isn't a decade behind where it should be.
Absolutely this. MH has an awesome concept and looks great too. But the fighting mechanics are bad as hell. Very slow and clunky.

It's supposed to prevent spamming health potions. You have to retreat before you heal, and it's a risk-reward thing where you're leaving yourself open and hoping you're far enough away.

I've don't see anything wrong with being forced to stop moving, take out a potion and drink it since you can accept that as being realistic. Having to watch your character flex their muscles while in mortal danger though is downright pathetic, it's akin to taunting while someone is shooting you in the face.

Everything about that MH quicklook seemed horrid. He's swinging around a huge ass axe, fighting a huge dinosaur, and neither one of them cause an ounce of hit stun during the others' attack animations...

It's not about realism, it's about the game mechanics in the title and how every little bit works out.

MH indeed has a very weighty, insular design, every little move is going to be down to strategy and methodical play but it really works wonders for it and along with Demons Souls it really runs down anything else in it's genre.

Folks who want more weightless, actiony design and lock on and all the typical fare are just not going to come to grips with it. And that's fine, something different for everyone, but trying to deny the pretty vast depth in it's combat because it's not some lock, on turn on a dime, mash X to spin around and clog the screen with alpha channel effects kind 'o game is silly.

it's something you gotta play quite a bit of to really understand, and be willing to accept a deviation from the norm, but it's anything but another consume and toss title.

That looks super clunky. I'm shocked that the series is as popular as it seems to be based on that quick look.

I said the same thing after playing the PSP variants.

There's nothing good about any of the Monster Hunters (in my opinion of course). I really didn't enjoy any aspect of any of them.

I also tried MH: Freedom Unite and wasn't really into it. In theory it sounds awesome. Fighting all those monsters, collecting materials and the build more awesome weapons/armor. Everything about that is right up my alley, but than it all feels so clunky and it doesn't look like it will change any time soon.

Anyway, there are alternatives. Phatasy Star is still a viable option and if you want something that really copies Monster Hunter without the clunkyness there is God Eater.

Monster Hunter looks like the kind of game where you're supposed to be slow and deliberate. Watch animations carefully, attack at just the right time, dodge, etc. Running into a monsters face and spamming the attack button probably isn't a good idea or designed to be a lot of fun. It's a game that rewards patience and being careful.

Kinda reminds me of Metal Gear Solid, not that it's a stealth game, but how you had to be very deliberate and sneak around just right to get at a guard at the right moment. Just running into a dudes face and mashing the attack button was a terrible idea in that game too.

But the problem is that it's possible to make that kind of game fun to play. See Demon's Souls

Yeah, I love the concept of Monster Hunter but the execution leaves a lot to be desired (IMO). I really wanted to like it, but after trying the demo for Tri I was pretty underwhelmed.

Demon's Souls had a lock-on system.
Yeah I know, that's why it's more fun to play. I'm saying Demon's Souls is a lot like Monster Hunter except with a couple of more accessible gameplay features, yet it still manages to be grounded in slow/deliberate/tactical combat

I'm with Xater and vermadas a few posts up, all of the stuff about Monster Hunter sounds awesome in theory and I would love to dive into it and get all co-op and get some monster hides and make some awesome weapons and armor out of it all, but the gameplay is just eugh. This is the point where I wish they'd pair up with a great Western developer so we could have the best of both worlds

Apparently quite a lot of people find it fun to play. I don't think they're all lying.
Right, so the series should just stay exactly like it is. Forever and ever. What if Monster Hunter 4 has a lock-on feature and gets rid of the "zones" concept and finds a way to balance the risk/reward aspect of potion consuming without resorting to animation locking? Would that honestly feel like a step back to you?

man , Monster Hunter 3 look like MH1 and 2 on PS2 , horrible animations and how the dinos pop-in , bland environment and very dated lighting/shadows , did they used the same old PS2 engine for this one ?

also it's the same style of game play without any changes ( I know I know hardcore fans like it..ect ) but Hopefully Inafune and Lost Planet team take the series and fucking turn it to a current generation game with MT Framework and better controls and add new things to it.

Man, that sudden appearance of the girl doing the wii controls cracked me up. Talk about completely ruining any immersion out of nowhere.:lol

Hmm I don't know about Tri. I enjoy the Monster Hunter series with friends and it's much easier to play on the PSP if I want that. Also, graphically it doesn't look that much better than the PSP version.
Since Monster Hunter Portable 3 is coming out I think I'll just wait for that.

But is it because of the controls or in spite of them?
In spite of them, duh. MH's controls ARE pretty clunky, I'm just saying that the overreaction is pretty crazy.

Red Steel 2 looks okay. Still kinda worried about how repetitive it might be, but everything I've read and watched seems to show that the core mechanics are solid and fun.

The quicklooks on giantbomb have been loading very very slow for me the past few days. Anyone else notice this? I'm using firefox here and the Metro 2033 quicklook took like 15minutes to download.

Game looks pretty fun, but I'm always wary of downloadable multiplayer based games. They have such a short shelf life, it's really not worth getting them unless you buy day one and play the hell out of it until everybody's gone two months later.

Yeah, the game itself looks awesome (Western style is great when done right, as the recent glut of Western-style games have shown), but without a community this'll die off soon.

I missed Street Fighter :'(

Anyway, the Red Steel 2 QL was really good. I almost reconsidered not buying it xD Wasn't interested one bit before but it looked rather smashing. Kinda steep price though :(
