Damn, they're not even giving P3 a chance. What a bummer! What was with all of the crazy cock-teasing they were doing for the past two weeks for? Did it really take that much effort to record a quicklook?

I didn't think that I wanted another Persona endurance run, but even with Jeff being kind of negative during that quicklook, I want to see them play through that full game.

I definitively feel that taking out the cut-scenes and replacing them with radio theater does the game a severe disservice, but it's a really well made port all in all.

I am a little worried that Persona 5 is going to be on the PSP though. Atlus hasn't really been all that big on consoles this generation and with Strange Journey being a DS game and P3P I feel they might be angelin' to move most of their stuff to portables where they can keep costs down.

Persona 5 is either gonna be 3DS or XBLA/PSN.

That's probably the original Persona remake they did for PSP. Or (and this would make me happy) P3DS.

Unlikely. They also listed SMT didn't they? Are they also going to remake the original?

Likely just referred to the franchises more than any specific title.

Bear in mind that Atlus has also been "working" on a Shin Megami Tensei for PS3 for years now, so them announcing support for a system without announcing games doesn't really mean much. Atlus works in mysterious ways.

Man I kinda want to hook up my PS2 now and play through FES.
The PSP version looks too watered down. I finished the original P3 but I never touched my FES copy.

P5 will be PS3(/360).
I have no doubts about it.
They will definitely do some Megaten games on the 3DS though.

Yeah, in like 2005 they announced that

then the ps3 uh, happened, and HEY NOW IT'S A COUPLE YEARS LATER AND SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI 4 FOR DS
 
Their SMT games on the PS2 were very experimental and I think they don't have the finances or the balls/lunacy to attempt that this gen with the increased costs/risks. I'm enjoying my time with P3P, but I doubt I'll be sticking around with the series if they stay portable. Strange Journey is apparently good enough to be called SMT4, but I deride so much enjoyment out of the stuff that gets lost in the transfer from console to portable device, so I have little interest to no in it.

SMT4/Persona5 on console or bust. >:(

Why? It would sell horribly given a retail release. They might as well cut the loses and release it digitally. It's not like anyone that is a Persona fan is not on the internet, it's far from a mainstream series.

You don't understand Atlus and the Megaten fans very well.
If they are working on a PS3 Megaten fans then you can bet your life savings that it will be a retail release bundled with a soundtrack and maybe even an art book or some other sweet little packaged in goodie.
The Persona series may not be mainstream but the fans are loyal (in part because Atlus is so damn great at providing quality packaging and extra incentives) and they will want a physical copy.

Jeff's been a Debbie Downer for months now. This Quick Look, the DP Endurence Run, the RDR Thursday Night Throwdown... I like Jeff, but a bit less cynicism would be nice.

Anyway, I ordered P3 FES last week. Was gonna get P3P for the team direct commands, but the watered down presentation turned me off. I'll just deal with the AI, I suppose.

But wouldn't the fans rather want the developers to make more money and getting the chance to make even better games with more content and interesting mechanics due to them having more money available in their budget during production?

I would.
I seriously wouldn't mind a P5 in a slightly spruced up P4 engine.
I just don't want a mainline addition in the series to be like P3P.
Not to knock against P3P too much, it's certainly an awesome handheld RPG.
 
To be honest I had a hard time watching that entire P3P quick look, it's the first time I've ever felt like turning a QL off halfway through. I can see exactly where Jeff is coming from, it just didn't feel right at all - the characters were wrong, the voices were wrong, the music was wrong, the menus were wrong, everything was wrong.

When that miserable girl kept popping up to bark "YOU STRUCK THE ENEMIES WEAK SPOT" it was like there was a gaping void where a chirpy Rise should be, squealing "Oooh, nice moves Yosuke-senpai!". Even the end of battle music, I was wrongly expecting the P4 music and felt upset when I didn't hear it.

People need to stop whining.

I had the same reaction going into P4 after having played P3.
Eventually I came to love those characters on their own merrits, even though they seemed like "off" versions of the characters I had come to love at first glance.

Mitsuro is kinda too much of a debbie downer for me, but she's the best battle announcer easily.

Mitsuro>Teddie>Rise>Fuuka

I know you're saying it to be a dick, but I would be totally fine with P5 running on a souped-up version of P4's engine for Wii. Hell, they can put it on PS2 again for all I care - I just want it to be on a console and with that level of presentation. :P

No, I actually loved Rise and Teddie's squealing during battles, it was cheerful and fitting for both the style of the game and their personalities.

I think it could work on PSP but they'd hafta seriously re-do the way they present cut-scenes. Preferably just do realized polygonal environments and animate the characters, but maybe they could do something in 2D with portraits and stuff, I dunno. Just as long as it's not the P3P radio theater.

I never did. They were far far far better than Fuuka. Mitsuru was passable.
