The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

I wonder how many views those persona 4 videos are getting. Must be quite a lot as they keep pumping them out at a regular pace.

Or maybe both Jeff and Vinny are just really enjoying doing them

They do sound like they're having a lot of fun.

lol... I pretty much don't buy games without being able to play them first, ever, but that Noby Noby quick look was so utterly strange that I just have to go and get the game now.

The endurance run concept it awesome...kinda like a long format Broken Pixels. Ryan and Brad should start their own with a shorter game while they work through Persona 4. They'd probably be able to blow through 3-4 games before Vinny/Jeff finish :lol.

Is there anything else like this out there?

I doubt it's new thread worthy but the Giant Bomb redesign has gone live. The wiki aspect of the site seems to be completely removed from the home page. I like the look, but I personally would rather see the wiki popularity portion replace the forum section at the bottom.

Yup, I saw that, too. I've always thought that Giant Bomb has one of the best site layouts of any video game website out there. They're really doing a great job with the site. Lately, I've gotten sick of sites like IGN and Gamespot, and I've been visiting Giant Bomb almost exclusively.

how do they make money, i dont see a single ad on their site

Easy, they actually found a way to convert gamerpoints into currency! Now you know why they are total achievement whores!

It's actually really funny how much of an achievement whore Jeff is. :lol It almost seems like he's parodying an achievement whore.

But yeah, I've been wondering how they are making money for a while now. I mean, the site is huge, popular, and all the videos they put out are top notch in production, in my opinion. How are they affording this?

I dont know. I havent seen an AD on their site yet. They have to be making money somehow...

Unless this is part of a year-plan. They try and make the site popular at a loss and then slowly introduce money-making schemes. I really like the site, and its starting to have more relevance in my daily internet browsing than it used to thanks to their great media content, and interesting wikipedia model.

I imagine that the people there are working for an interest in the company. I'm not sure how Whiskey Media makes money... maybe they plan on selling their sites or introduce ads once they have a large user base?

Ah, yes, it looks like they do plan on selling ads. :lol

I think they also are planning to license out api access to their database for third parties.

There actually were ads on the site at one time, I remember seeing them, but that was 2008, I think.

Maybe they just get paid for advertising energy drinks or something.

They did have a bunch of ads for Gears 2 when that was coming out. They haven't had anything since then, but I imagine (especially with the new site layout) that they'll bring in some more ads soon.

Just wanted to say I think these are the best things on any gaming website right now, I hope they keep it up.

EDIT: Dead Rising looks shitty.

Giant bomb is currently my favorite all-around website for gaming.

Gamespot used to be until all the talent left and now i've completely stripped that out of my browsing lineup.

1up did have the podcast content, which i still listen to because a few people remained, but im not in love with it as much as i was.

Gametrailers has all the video content that go for, new trailers, video reviews etc

But giant bomb has all of that, plus an amazing website design.

Its the features like Quick look and Endurance runs and the bombcast which really put it over the top.

If you guys don't feel like watching the whole thing skip forward to 39:00 and watch the ending... Oh dear. I love you GiantBomb

Was not that funny, thanks for ruining it.

We're going to bring that thing back as soon as we can design a better-looking, more-functional version of it. All that mouseover stuff got pretty frustrating when you were trying to look at a specific content type.

Man, Dead Rising on Wii looks really bad. seems for every one thing they fixed, they fucked up on five other things.

They fixed something in the first place? Wow, didn't look like it in the video.

I assume generally no, they don't play. Gerstmann did comment in one of the Bombcast's that he DID complete Persona 1 way back though.

Even at Gamespot, these were generally not the guys giving review scores to RPG's(Brad occasionally, but Greg K. did most of them)
