Jostifer said:In any case, people would be grossly mistaken if they think the difficulty is the single thing which makes this game special.
The game is pushing the RPG boundaries further than any other game in years. Really, the games online component is borderline revolutionary. It is multi-dimensional. It's solitude in a MMO environment. The game wraps a forum over it's game world like a texture in the form of messages (that are very helpful or full of deceit) but not only that, it also stores (death) replay files on this world wrapped forum as well as game invites! And they are always to the point since they're located in the very area of interest. The idea is so incredibly brilliant and superbly elegant, it's the most ingenious new gameplay feature I have seen since I can't remember the last time. There are also the other online nuggets like seeing live specters of other gamers, being mortal or in soul form, statues of the worlds greatest players, invading another players dimension and joining up with their foes, one boss actually being player controlled...
Then you have highly addicting, highly satisfying gameplay set at a realistic pace. An item system that is all about crafting versus looting and a leveling system that lets you go in any direction you desire. The thickest, crudest and most delicious atmosphere, a hardcore RPG that scares you like the best horror titles. Terrific art, level design, demons and vision. All that backed up by rules of a harsh world with absolute zero leniency. In Demon's Souls you are what you have it in yourself to be.

Who cares. I get what the game's about. You're acting like people are too stupid to make up their own minds beyond the Quick Looks and are impulse buyers who act at the whim of Jeff and crew.FTWer said:Yeah that a pretty damn big omission to have when demoing the game. Going to a level your not supposed to for several hours. Typical Quick Look uninformed playthroughs.
Is it really a correction when he said that there was another world you could go to IN THE VIDEO? the only people confused are the ones ho couldn't sit through the quick look.Gilgamesh said:With an important correction like this I bet his entire opinion of the game has changed.

hamchan said:Vinny said it was a level higher than his character could handle, were you not listening?
No Vinny was simply mistaken. If he had made it downstairs he would have been able to switch a lever which would have opened a shortcut (for if you die). The actual lever that opens the boss gate is farther along and after pulling that lever there is still more to of the level to get through to get back downstairs infront of the gate via another shortcut.Spirit of Jazz said:The area didn't seem that huge given he said that he just had to go down the stairs and pull a leaver to fight a boss in the space of 15 minutes. Maybe I miss-head him?
It's not necessarily a level you're not supposed to go to.FTWer said:Yeah that a pretty damn big omission to have when demoing the game. Going to a level your not supposed to for several hours. Typical Quick Look uninformed playthroughs.
EviLore said:Yes, devs, please "streamline" every game for members of the enthusiast press (and their devoted minions) so that they can press A to win, saving them embarrassment when playing anything that requires a modicum of skill for their online videos.
They can be fun, for some people. Not everyone likes that level of difficulty. Hell, I have the game, rolled a thief because the scout type is typically the class I like to play in RPGs if I can. Wanted to hurl my ds3 through the screen / snap it in half, at least a dozen times in the first non-tutorial level. Eventually you just get it, that death is woven into the game as part of the gameplay.voodoopanda said:I'm used to Gerstmann dismissing some games due to learning curves. His review of BlazBlue basically reads "I didn't feel like learning how to play this game, do I didn't."
The Quick Look did intrigue me, looking past some of their attitudes. Games that are difficult in that way can be a helluva lot of fun to get through. I liked the slow, deliberate nature of the combat. Really a lot of these quick looks are exactly that, and they have no problem with giving critical first impressions, so you have to take 'em with a grain of salt or two.

I bought their App. To support them in the first place.NIN90 said:http://www.giantbomb.com/the-giant-bomb-iphone-app-commercial/17-983/
You'll need to apply it directly to your forehead, tho.

Darklord said:You are confusing streamlining with simplifying. I don't mind a complex game, hell I prefer a complex game, I get extremely bored of 1 button games, it's why I turn every assist off in a game like Forza 3, but let me use an example. ArmA 2, it's a pretty great game but has an ancient, terrible UI and command menu. If they streamlined it it would make it easier to make on the fly commands and keep on going rather than fighting with it trying to figure out where the hell a command is or how to select something.
Using old and annoying mechanics to add difficulty is absurd and a lot of developers still do it, japanese or over wise. It makes you fight the game rather than fighting difficult enemies or complex puzzles or whatever.

EviLore said:Good thing Demon's Souls doesn't have old and annoying mechanics to add difficulty arbitrarily, then.
elrechazao said:I really like the game, but you don't think the game has a poor and old fashioned ui?
Zefah said:Wait... what is wrong with the UI? I thought it was pretty intuitive. I only kind of wish it was easier to compare stats of equipment.

Protip: If you want to download embedded media, use some firefox extension that streamlines the process effectively, for example DownloadHelper.Zeouterlimits said:I download the quick looks....
This works most of the time but if not just do a save as on a media.giantbomb/etc link if you can put it on a page (try putting it into keepvid.com and then "save as" on the
"No links found on http://media.giantbomb.com/video/vf_demonssouls_ql_100909_1500.flv" etc
Yeah, that's what I normally do on my own pc, not possible on library computers unfortunately, so that's why I came up with the 'work around'.wmat said:Protip: If you want to download embedded media, use some firefox extension that streamlines the process effectively, for example DownloadHelper.
To save GiantBomb flash videos, press play on the page and then right-click, choose DownloadHelper -> Media -> something.flv -> Download
The extension also supports converters, which might come in handy if you want to convert stuff on the fly.

elrechazao said:Yeah, it's almost as if it's meant to be a quick look or something.
this thread is hilarious
FTWer said:People mentioned this before in some of the other Quick Looks, if they just outright don't know how to play the game or give out wrong information, that is not good a good indication of the game.
FTWer said:Calm down, the quick look just wasn't all that in-depth on all parts of the game.
elrechazao said:so now it's "they're bad at the game", instead of:
Keep moving the goalposts around. It would be easier to just say you don't like giantbomb since that seems to be the only consistent thought you have.
It's a quick. look. Stop crying about it not being in depth on "all parts" of the game.
