You take this stuff way too seriously. He's a gaming journalist and he's good at that job. Whether he is good at games or not is inconsequential.Danielsan said:I think the fact that Brad always dies in quicklooks is hilarious.
That Brad isn't some elite gamer doesn't bother me.
What does bother me is that he obviously has no clue what the hell is doing.
Completely missing essential gameplay mechanics etc...
His God of War quick looks are cringe worthy. I can't believe he didn't get the clue the first time he got slammed into the wall by the colossus. :lol
Virro said:Is Brad really that bad at some of these games?
witness said:Its funny because I remember on an old episode of Listen Up when Brad was a guest and Shane saying how Brad was a gaming god and he was really awesome at any game he played. I wonder if it was some sort of inside joke or if Brad getting killed in every quick look is just a gimmick that they ran with for comedy sake.
I should be doing hw said:Yeah Brad sucks at games, don't really know why he chose this profession. :lol I take his opinions as a grain of salt in reviews when it comes to gameplay.

And whats wrong with trying to launch yourself a couple times? Not everyone is paying attention to every single developer cue - sometimes its just terrible fun doing what the game has already presented you with and getting caught up in it. Everyone is "guilty" of said things.templeusox said:You take this stuff way too seriously. He's a gaming journalist and he's good at that job. Whether he is good at games or not is inconsequential.
LCfiner said:I think it’s funny how a subset of Gaf thinks you need elite gaming skills to be a games writer as opposed to, say, the ability to write. that kind of attitude is what leads to IGN levels of writing in the industry.
As long as Brad can get through the games he’s reviewing (even if it takes a bit longer than you super players) and can clearly express his views then that’s fine.

lol literally everyone in here has said they do not want thatTen-Song said:What I find amusing is most of the time during a quick look, whoever is playing the game is playing it for the first time, yet everyone here expects them to be outstanding at playing it, like they need to 100% every level, never get hit, find all secrets, yadda yadda yadda.
Reminds me of some people I've known that get pissed off watching anyone play a video game. "No, you're doing it wrong! Turn to the left! GOD, just turn to the left and kill that guy! Fuck, just hand me the controller!"

He also did it in the Mario QL too. He needs to do fact checks and do some research. I can't stand these "journalist" and "professionals" who don't know anything. It's obnoxious and just embarrassing.

It was Brad and Ryan in the QL video and they both gave the game tons of praise. And it got 4 out of 5 stars in the review.

I don't think that quick look was very fair. Jeff was being very down on certain parts of the game which he didn't fully understand. Like how he was playing just by checking which moves would give him the most spell points... but that's a help feature which is only active in the beginning parts of the game.Stoney Mason said:That Quick Look on Gyromancer saved me 15 bucks. What complaints did he make that offends you so damn much?-PXG- said:I'm not talking about the lack of praise. That isn't the case at all. In fact, they gave the game tons of praise.
I don't know who it is, but there is ONE guy on Giant Bomb who says shit that is just plain wrong, or complains about things that are petty. He moans and groans about things that no one else seems to really mind. That or he's just trying to find things to complain about for the sake of it. I find that utterly annoying.

I'm personally still not sure whether to get the game, but that quick look said less than my own 5 minutes play of the trial. I liked Puzzle Quest, and I like Bejeweled Twist (much more so than normal Bejeweled), so I'm rather interested but I'm just not sure if it would be fun in the long run (Puzzle Quest REALLY burned me out).

I'm guessing you're talking about Brad. I can't remember Ryan being very negative in quick looks.-PXG- said:I knew someone was going to catch that. Good for you. You can use my words against me. I'm not a "professional". I'm just another douche on a fucking forumIf I knew who it was, I wouldn't be asking now would I. If not, I would have found out myself, some way, some how. Honest mistake.
Again, this person habitially makes mistakes and just makes an ass of himself from his petty complaints in the QLs. That is what annoys me.

The only kind of person who would make such complaints, is someone who hasn't played those games, or just haven't done their homework.

'this is what AC1 should have been' is the highest praise I could possibly give the gameinfinityBCRT said:I'm hoping they still get to a quick look of AC2. Would love to hear more impressions. Seems like a lot of podcasts are using the fact that "this is the game that AC1 should have been" as a way to knock it. I don't understand that logic-- they needed to learn the lessons from AC1 to figure out how to make AC2 better. And thats despite the fact that most sites are still giving it a high score. Very strange praise for the game.

I do not get the Brad hostility. He's easily my favorite Giant Bomber. By a long shot. I mean, I like them all, but Brad is just mellow, more average and balanced, and that's more like me. So I like Brad, he also tends to be into the type of game I'm more into (Uncharted 2, Infamous) so he's great for Giant Bomb. When you can't get Jeff or Ryan to even finish one of the best games of the year (Uncharted 2) and I wonder how they can even like games and not finish that game. It's crazy to me.
Even worse, in that case. I wanted to give Jeff the benefit of the doubt.I AM JOHN! said:The Gyromancer Quick Look seemed pretty self-explanatory to me and like Jeff knew fully what he was supposed to be doing, just that he was so apathetic to the game that he didn't care. If anything, I'd say that's the bigger disservice - the game looks like it could be a fun timewaster if you could let yourself get into it, but the Quick Look was so colored by their hatred of the game that one can't help but also see nothing but the bad unless they take a step back.
That's really the beauty of these Quick Looks - unless the game is really bad or broken in some way, they do a really good job of staying somewhat neutral towards the game to let you form your own opinions. Here the entire thing was negativity piled upon negativity for a game that didn't look like it really deserved it.
