Deadly Premonition is a great game and would make for an amazing Endurance Run. That is, if they get into it. An endurance run full of just complaining about graphics and driving controls wouldn't be very fun, but if they can see past those minor issues and recognize the charm it'd be a lot of fun to watch.

Although....I'm not sure if they'd really be able to do a full endurance run. Maybe an extended couple looks at it, but wouldn't they have to get the cooperation of the publisher to do an entire video runthrough?

endurance run = sales

ask atlus and persona 4

I'm pretty sure if they go through with such a big undertaking they know what they're getting into. And the game is so stupid and goofy it'd be hard for guys like the GB crew to not see the charm. I don't think this is a valid concern.

That's my case. I bought P3:FES because of the endurance run. I stopped half way through the endurance so I can play P4 next. I'll resume watching it after I finish.

I think the biggest hurdle is doing an endurance run with a game that isn't strictly turn based. A lot of the fun in the P4 Endurance run was from the back and forth between Vinny and Jeff about what to do, etc. In a real time game there are decisions that are made so quickly it can become a problem for the flow of the dialog. Plus there is also the fact that the person at the controls needs to rely on reaction time and plain old skillz a lot of the time - multitasking with random banter could prove quite difficult.

But I don't know shit about this game, so I may be completely off base and I doubt GB would rush head-long into something they hadn't thought about first.

And this is all on the off chance that Jeff was actually talking about doing a "endurance run" at all and not just an elongated quick look or something like they did for that other SMT game.

Your theory on turn based stuff is interesting, but in response to that, all I have to say is:

Every Quicklook ever.

These guys don't need "turn based" games to maximize talking efficiency. Some of the funniest quick looks on the site are of action games.

They've had other Quick Looks that have gone on for almost an hour since then, though. I'd have to assume that they are actually planning something different (Whether it's multiple quick looks, a full review, or an actual endurance run) or Jeff is intentionally messing with all of us. I won't lie. I'm fine with either scenario.

This is the second I've seen of this game, the first being a video linked either from here or the official thread where the main character was talking to a few people in a waiting room. Hillbilly and Slut, I think were their names. I've gotten as far into this video as "Raises the chance of catching close ranged weapons." I now have changed my mind. I'll settle for nothing less than an endurance run of this game.

While the combat sections are fairly linear and action oriented, the exploration and investigation aspects where you basically have free reign to go anywhere and do whatever in the town seems like a perfect fit for an endurance run to discuss where to go and what to do and react to the insanity that follows.

And still no Just Cause 2 quicklook. My mind boggles. With all their expressed love of that franchise I would have expected this by now.

Do they have a review copy already? I thought they just had the demo.

I'm sitting here eating pizza watching Jeff drive home. Either my life hit a new peak or a new low... I'm not sure

Also, new giantbomb sister site: http://www.tested.com/

I've got the stream open too and just tried describing what I was watching to a friend.

Well, it's these two guys, who run a website. They're driving home. Talking about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and White Stripes. What? No, it's not a music site. Video games. Well, they're talking about games now...kinda. They're talking about drinking at a gaming conference, that's sort of related.

She didn't quite get it.

This.

Cryostasis QL has got to be the funniest thing on GB :D

Someone tweeted Brad earlier asking if they were going to do a quicklook of Deadly Premonition and he responded that they'll be "enduring the game in some fashion, yes"

enduring

ENDURING

It's be great if Brad was in the player's seat for this with the way he completely freaks in horror games. The Silent Hill one where both he and Ryan are freaking out near the end was just great.

Persona 4 was released on 12/9/2008 and the Endurance Run didn't begin until 2/9/2009. Three months later.

I personally think Giant Bomb doing an Endurance Run of game like Deadly Premonition that's only two weeks old is a bit too soon, but if the publisher doesn't mind then of course it's fine.

Hmmm, so is this going to be the Cnet to Giant Bomb's GameSpot? Like what I see so far with the site. Will definitely make sure to keep tuning into it.
Yeah, it reminds me a lot of Cnet, especially the review video, while not taking itself quite so serious. Like it. Will become a regular visitor.

I rescind my argument! There are indeed a lot of great QLs of faster games, like Cryostasis.

edit: oooooomg this fishing video is amazing.

I don't see why Mangodsoft would care. It's not like this is some huge release that they've been hyping like it's the second coming. This is going to make far more people aware that Deadly Premonition even exists.

How long is a typical playthrough of Deadly Premonition? The Persona 4 Endurance Run was part of my daily routine but it feels like that was forever ago. I can't wait for the next one.

This is a weird question but how do these guys make money? I take it it's from advertising but...
they already addressed that issue back at PAX last year. I don't remember what they said though, but go look for their pax video

Go watch Point Break they've basically modeled their business on it.

Advertising and investors in Whiskey Media. WM doesn't have a huge amount of employees so the overhead probably isn't that high.

The news came out today on PE Hub that we received an investment of $2.5 million. This investment round reflects a true family and close friends round, and we are grateful to have these folks continue to encourage and back us.

This round of funding will provide us the capital to launch more sites and hire more great people. The last two years have been an absolute blast, and we are even more excited about our next phase. We believe that we are at the center of a new wave of publishing that is socially-centered, and is also in the truest sense authentic to its category.

We believe that the media brands we have developed with our “Whiskey Powered” process and technology platform will truly change how we all enjoy media, and we’re looking forward to going to even more categories we love next year. It looks to be a great time.
+ they have adds but they choose like penny arcade, they do not want just google adds on there because it does not work if you want to have a "real" company.

WM = heads of ex cnet and they know like NO others how to set up a internet company and do well, look at how cnet has grown in 15 years.
You have to give them time, there traffic is up 200% since they started and members + viewers keep coming in.
They will be just fine and, and in no time you can't go around them anymore they will become the new "gamespot" like they where a few years back.

I dunno for sure, but I've heard that a straight playthrough of the game is about 20-25 hours, but a lot of the game is an open world area full of sidequests and minigames that can increase that time to up to 40 hours or so depending on how much of it they decide to mess around with.

I know diddly squat about Deadly Premonition, but the way everyone on GAF seems to be going on about it, i'd watch every single episode of an Endurance Run. :lol

A Demon's Souls Endurance Run with Vinny at the helm
(and Dave!)
would have been amazing though.

Sorry for the random question, but since GDC is this week,I was curious about the podcast from last year's GDC. I recall that people didn't like it for some reason?

I think the problem was that there were a billion people on it. I don't remember it too clearly, but I don't think I had any issues with it.

were those the ones with Leigh Alexander and MGS4 talk? those were fucking awesome

Will listen to them then.Idk i just remember hearing about disliking a certain episode of the bombcast or maybe I'm crazy.
It was definitely the E3 episode with Leigh Alexander which received the brunt of peoples' complaints.

Frankly I like my GB sans guests. They've got a great chemistry which is easily interrupted it seems. Alex Navarro is cool though.

Alex Navarro is more than just a guest though. He's like the man who would be bomb.
