The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

About 4 minutes into the EDF quick look right now, and so far, I think you guys are crazy. Kessler's line "The ants look like ants to me!" was hilarious and fit right in with GB humor.

Edit: got to Ryan saying that EDF2017 was 'soul-crushingly boring to play' and I am off this train.

I can kind of see that, too. But, Patrick gets more of a pass from me because I dug him in the old 1up days.

Kessler and Patrick and Alex when he was in the office all had their benefits and drawbacks when they sat in on quick looks, and I totally get why they are continually included. There just is not enough time in the day for the core four to do each quick look. That makes sense. I have no problem with any of them, but I personally just like material with the core four or Dave and Drew. The more content that has others on it just makes more Giant Bomb content that I am less interested in consuming, which I find increasingly disappointing. But that's just me. And whenever a good Ryan/Vinny quick look comes out, I forget all about the negativity and am reminded why I love the site so much.

They've ALWAYS been an asshole to Kessler on camera. It's a joke. It's a natural thing to give interns shit, they ramp it up on camera for fun. If they actually hated him that much he wouldn't be there for a second year(and Jeff asked for him back if I'm remembering right), nor be the only intern with a full review up on the site, nor be the only intern who has been in a QL, nor been the host of his own show on the GB YT channel.

And as a person who disliked kessler I think some of the awkwardness and "trying to fit in" mentality is fading and he's become more confident on camera. Remember, these guys including Patrick have been doing it for years. Look at Brad or Alex in old gamespot videos. They are soooo bad. But now they are natural in front of a cam.

Oh, I know. It's been that way since they moved into their new office; since they changed.

Of course they don't hate him, they just keep up the very unfunny tradition of being dicks to the intern.

Yeah that got me laughing too.

The only thing that really bugs me about Kessler is that his voice sounds so fake whenever he's on camera. Phony overly-enthusiastic guy kind of gets under my skin. I think I remember them saying he's a theater major, I wonder if that's where it comes from.

I really like those videos he did last summer though, they really reminded me of the older GB videos where they would just turn on a camera while they were doing something stupid, like Vinny using the iPhone T-Pain app.
 
I have no reason to dislike this Kessler guy because all I really do is listen to the Bombcast and Quick Looks. But his overly enthusiastic approach of talking nonsense was really annoying in that QL.

Well, it's Ryan. Ryan's character is he's a dick. He's a dick to Will Smith, he's a dick to Brad, he's even a dick to Vinny (to a much lesser degree). Not to mention that Kessler's character seems to be okay with the harassment, so he gets a lot more shit even than the other interns.

Eh, he doesn't get a lot of time on podcasts/videos so he's not exactly well practiced. It also doesn't help that he is being bombarded with insults. It's hard to know what his personality is.

I can't believe I'm defending Kessler. :(
 
I couldn't stand Patrick on 1up podcasts, but for some reason he fits in with Giant Bomb for me and I really enjoy him on Quick Looks.

Kessler on the other hand, I've never been entertained by anything he's ever done. Maybe he'll get better one day, but right now he's the Anti-Giant Bomb for me.
 
Kessler was very good and funny.

and at least he don't repeat his jokes over and over like Patrick Klepek.


more Kessler and less Klepek will be good to me.

I agree. I actually find Kessler fairly charming, especially when he's off-camera.

vanishing corpses and fewer insects in the waves sucks ass. I want my EDF to have all kinds of dead bodies clipping around the environment and the framerate taking a dive as 30 spiders jump around and shoot webs all over my face.
 
Very easy to spot that Kessler is trying really hard to be funny when he talks. Not a fan of him.

Don't understand the Patrick dislike. He acts exactly how he has always acted. All this talk of him copying others is silly.

Those things are out because they broke the online co-op. If you own EDF: IA and you're not playing online you're doing it wrong.
 
Kessler once admitted in a chat to loving the Hotspot podcasts back when they were hot, so it seems to me that he's basically trying to replicate their mannerisms and speech. It's probably why they pick on him the most, because it's kind of obvious. He does seem to know his shizzle but he's such a poor excuse for a copy cat that it's just really off-putting. Be your own man, man!

Also, sometimes Ryan is just a dick. Even on TNT last night, he often treated the interns in a way that didn't see jokey but just plain rude. I remember there being a couple times where he either dismissed or straight-up ignored something one of the interns said or asked. I know most of it is jokey but there are certainly moments where Ryan in particular just comes off as very unnecessarily boorish.

The thing is, the same way with Patrick, is that they don't go along with the rest of the group. The rest is like "This shit is the most stupid shit I have ever seen" and then those guys think "Wait, lets be totally serious here!". Just go with the flow and it will eventually turn into gold.
 
Does the Giant Bomb community actually like Kessler? Kessler is what I imagine GB fans are like both in terms of personality and physical presence, so it'll be ironic if he's actually hated over there.

I want to see what EDF is like because I really enjoyed the last game, but then I realised it involved Kessler. Great.

My hatred for that fucker keeps growing. I literally have to avoid videos he's in because I hate him so much. Urgh.

How many people do you think probably bought Deadly Premonition just from watching the Endurance Run, hell I did because I felt like i owed th developer due to how much enjoyment I got out of watching GB play thru the game. Albeit, my copy is still sealed and sitting on my bookshelf and will most likely remain that way... a sale is still a sale, so a GB Endurance Run is basically free promotion...

The interns are on the scrub leagues etc though. I bet you couldn't find one post complaning about them.

Point is, people have valid reasons for hating Kessler. I'm all for new blood at GB, since Patrick for the most part is fine, but I'm not for horrible human beings like Kessler ruining their content. Simple as that.
