The Cartel is probably one of the worst fucking games I have seen in a long time.

Totally unsurprised with how bad it looks.

Wow haven't heard voice acting that bad in a long time.
I recall the previous games having an awesomely intimidating gruff old man voice. Don't know what happened to it.
You don't wanna mess with this guy.

The Cartel looks like a rushjob with a couple of interesting ideas and not enough budget.

Rushed out the door on a despicably short dev cycle. The game was just announced for the first time 5 months ago.

why would a game be rushed out to hit… the end of July?

I’m not doubting you, btw. Just seems so dumb to rush to meet a summer date

Reading up on the TVTropes entry, I'm amazed that they stumbled into the true ending based on sheer bloody-mindedness.

The fans would not allow them to NOT get the true ending, they were hounded about it.

Because this game would sell even worse if it hit the same time as say, Resistance 3 and Gears of War 3 and Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3. It's either get it done before ~August, or wait and put it out sometime in winter.

It looks like there are some good ideas, like the secret items and agendas, but just about everything else appears to fall flat. The shooting looks limp, the fistfighting dull, and there are some weird design problems. For example, it's pretty noticeable that your co-op allies' names don't stay on the screen and appear, to identify them as friendlies.

I think it was the general consensus at the time that they totally knew exactly what they needed to do to get the true ending. They most likely looked it up in a guide, then sort of tried to play it off like they found it on their own with a wink and nod to the audience. No way after 80 hours they would settle for anything but the true ending.

Also, if you watch that specific part again, it's kind of obvious. Jeff just says out of the blue, "hey maybe we should check out Junes?" They knew.

Aw, the thing they were doing a few nights ago wasn't put up for the quicklook. It took them about 40 minutes to take the plane off in all realism, it was amazing. Hopefully it's archived somewhere.

What's really wild is reading up on the game and realizing how much content they still never got to.

Well they were never going to get to the
Margaret
fight. But it's a shame they don't seem to have gone on youtube and watched some of the stuff in the game that they missed like the last few ranks of the Kanji S.Link, the Bad Endings, and the other Christmas Eve dates.

Maybe for the two year anniversary of the end of the ER they could do commentary on some of those clips.

This. I got this from redbox and agree, good ideas but not taken far enough. Im sure they had a tight timetable getting it out.

I finally finished watching the P4 Endurance Run!

Hells yeah, what a ride
Nice. I finished it about two weeks ago. I was looking for some sort of post-mortem on the whole thing, do they talk about the ER on one of their podcasts or something? I checked the GOTY podcasts but they talked about Persona 4 for like 3 minutes.

Call of Juarez looks like it could be good if the mechanics were better. With "good" I mean like 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand-good.

Oh and I thought it was really funny how upset Brad was that they mixed up "their" and "they're" in the subtitles.

I can remember Jeff being rather "No no, do THIS." during some end parts of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if he had read up on the game so he knew how to trigger the real ending.

Playing the cartel right now actually.

The single player doesn't seem much worse than the typical BFBC/COD style affair. Still much better than shit like Homefront, Duke Nukem, and Medal of Honor though. Certainly nothing special but if you just want to shoot stuff for a few hours you can do much worse.

Did they do a live quicklook for this?

It makes me grind my teeth when I see subtitles misuse commas. I can't imagine how I'd deal with the 'your, you're' situation of Cartel.

Their is no reason to get so angry about this
You know, I wasn't always this way. I used to not care. Then one of my English professors marked off 10 points for every error. So now I can't stop reading all sentences as independent and dependent clauses.

But this! Mixing up Their, They're, there is just being dumb. Or being translated by someone who has English as a second language. They still could have afforded to pay someone better. Techland? Call me. I'll do it for free because it drives me insane.

Jesus christ at The Cartel.
I loved the first two Juarez games, I can't believe how much they fucked this one up
Indeed, CoJ were good games an I enjoyed the ride. this looks much worse in every aspect. I wonder what happened.

Awww, that takes the magic out of it :<

Dead Island happened. Cartel was not only rushed, but it was done by the B-Team, apparently.

I have to say The Cartel has some cool ideas, I actually think it looks like it could be fun if played with some friends. And obviously picked up on the cheap, it does seem like a very odd game in general though.
