Oh my god I agree with Jeff Gerstmann on the two best things in Bodycount: Fast reload after death and weird arcadey sounds when you pick up a circle thing. I've never felt such kinship with him.

You cynical bastard.

:P

Brad blamed the controller right? They were on equal footing, but GAF best not be defending that 360 dpad, or I will take umbrage something rotten with you.

Yeah, he seemed way too concerned with getting headshots to increase his multiplier, and it wasn't even clear why that was important.

Isn't that game about running around and shooting everything up? Could be at least a little bit of fun with this partly destructible environments and the over-the-top ragdolls.

No, it was when he's complaining that his inputs weren't registering correctly period and Jeff called him out on pausing and still failing.
Let the records show he totally pulled off all the moves. The game must be broken.

How quickly he seemed to die when under fire looks to be at odds with that play style, if that's what they were going for. If the devs implement a system that rewards comboing head shots (even if it is just score based, which who knows) then I don't think a player can be blamed for playing to that system.

Also, if it is a game about running around and shooting everything. Shouldn't the movement be faster, and shouldn't enemies run towards you? Didn't seem, from the quick look, like it was trying to evoke 90's style run & gun FPS's to me.

Whats the problem about Brad this time? I am not seeing it. People are really exaggerating.

Dunno, that playstyle seems more fitting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwIruwYs2V0

It's as inevitable as wind rustling leaves or water flowing through streams, Brad will fuck up in a game and it will never be his fault.

Yes, inevitable like uppity Internet jerks scouring for their next witch hunt. I suppose you'll post an even-handed addendum when you realize the same thing happened to Jeff at the end of the video, and that plenty of other people are having the same problem? Sometimes the game is just fucked up.

Serious question: why do Brad and Jeff never respond to praise or laughter or thanks, only to the worst of the worst?

The Internet isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Your own website, believe it or not, is contained within its mysterious domain!

The rock of ages quicklook is hilarious, game wasn't on my radar at all but I might pick it up.

The online in MK looks AWFUL. You can't even see the person's gamertag while you're in a match.

Why do you ask that way, are the other guys responding to everything? I guess it would be a lot of work to respond to every post in every forum that mentions them.

Is it towards the end? I'm at 26:49, so far haven't seen anything bad. At least not anything bad from the commentary, the online in this collection looks busted as fuck.

I was mostly joking around with my comment, because as soon as Brad said "I am hitting back and then forward while blocking and the knife is not coming out" my mind immediately preceded that comment with "Let the record show..."

Where's the fun in that?

Hi Brad! Glad to see you are still around, even after the kind of embarassing 6 page SotC debacle people had here last week.

Huh? I've seen Jeff acknowledge compliments on his Formspring on several occasions. I imagine they have more important things to do than scan forums/video comments looking for compliments to respond to. It sort of makes sense they'd only say stuff publicly when people are calling them terrible players or other personal attacks.

Brad is clearly a masochist

Why else would he lurk? He lets the pain and suffering build up for hours or even days and then unleashes it in a blissful orgasmic fury of rapid typing as he responds to some dumb gaf comment

Responding to praise is a fucking nightmare, it's kinda embarassing :lol

I laughed because I knew that Brad would catch shit for it even though it probably wasn't his fault this time.

Because it would quickly become an empty platitude, even if they didn't respond to everything. How many ways can you say 'thanks', really? The better, if more easily answered, question would be why they respond to criticism.

I will echo the 'evil internet' sentiment though. I'd love to be able to bury it in my mind as what it is, but I'll be damned if some people don't make it really difficult. This convenient/easy thinking is something we're all guilty of to some extent, you can't keep track of that many people as individuals, so you look for trends or some kind of consensus, sure. But when I see people address the GAF hive-mind in some way, it really ticks me off. Especially when they point out some supposed hypocrisy, like it's an actual entity with one mind and will. All I can do is try not to jump down their throats.

I dont know but I noticed that as well. And its always for the same dumb comments,

"hey why does brad spoil stuff/suck at games", "why you so pissed off Jeff", "Kessler sucks" and "WHERE IS A NEW ENDURANCE RUN"

When Jeff posted on here during his break he only answered people bitching about Kessler or wanting a new ER.

Still waiting for a response to "hey GB why does your video out put suck so bad this summer and Why cant you make more original content like you use to" which I think is a pretty valid thing to ask giving the last few months of giantbomb where the interns are making more videos then the main staff.

I now think they have been secretly recording videos all summer and they will announce them on 9/9. we know New TANG is coming... I expect thats only the start

Maybe it's because flattery is embarrassing, criticism isn't.
I suppose that's true. It'd just be more refreshing to see "Last Post by (rudds/MonsterDunk)" on the screen and have it be positive responses of some sort to GAF's GB-loving community instead of knowing that it's always telling some ignorant jerk to fuck off.

It probably bothers me way more than it should.

Except this isn't strictly true. On one of these threads some dude made an educated guess as to what the GBers do after some idiot complained about them not doing anything, and Brad showed up to thank him for it.

The Internet isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Your own website, believe it or not, is contained within its mysterious domain!

This thread has been pretty shitty over the last few pages. Maybe they should stop checking in on it altogether. Edit: and I'm actually having trouble thinking of a situation where someone addresses Brad that is both positive and not a meme.

Nah, I agree with you. It's jarring when "oh cool, one of the GB guys is reading, he might have something interesting to say" meets the reality of "way to go, Internet".

You know from what I hear on the Bombcast, those guys let the internet sway their opinion of gamers too much. Of course the loudest voices are the assholes, doesn't mean the majority are. I just hope they don't go around thinking a significant portion of the gaming community they serve are slobbering fanboy morons. Seems to cause them stress when I hear them talk about it.

Starcraft 2.

Yeah, the last couple of pages have been Brad's trial. "Brad, you have been accused by the NeoGAF of the grievous crime of being kind of shit at games. How do you plead?" I that'll change once some of the heavy hitting QL's come down the pipeline.

I think Brad is great, I don't think it means people shouldn't complain when things like the SotC quicklook happen. He isn't above reproach because he seems like a cool guy.

He didn't show up to defend himself there, did he? And even the interns were making fun of 'let the record show' during the Doom Fear Gauntlet. That was kind of embarrassing and IMO humorous. Here we have people going 'stop making up excuses, you suck-at-games-excuses-maker'.

Eh I dunno, still seems super boring. A lot of fights taking place at fairly long distance, even in that video. Really bland weaponry and dull combat scenarios, if it is in fact trying to evoke a Doom & Quake era fast paced, twitch shooter. The new Serious Sam and Hard Reset look more like that style than this game.

If they wanted more of that they shouldn't have made it a viable strategy to hang back and pick dudes off. By including enemy types that charge you, forcing you to get into the fray.

Also yeah, skipped around the MK quicklook again. Don't think Brad did anything wrong. He was complaining about some inputs not being recognized, but the blame was placed (deservedly) upon the xbox's crap d-pad.

I'm never very serious when I poke fun at Brad blaming the controls. I just find it funny how often he does it and how miffed he sometimes gets when people call him out on it. Shoemaker's a good guy and I hope he doesn't take the "lol brad sux @ games" stuff to heart. I wouldn't.

A lot of which is just stark disbelief at how you could possibly miss this, that and whatever thing. The one that I hope is a legitimate complaint to all is when they don't bother to figure out the controls, ignore instructions or dismiss whatever other information a game conveys. In other words: Don't be the guy who thinks he can build that IKEA shelf without the instructions.

How would complaining be constructive in that situation?

And, if it's not intended to be constructive and it's just people expressing their opinion about how Brad sucks at games (read, pointless blather) then it should be fine for him express his opinion about how irritating said opinions are (read, more pointless blather).
