The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

Reminds me of Far Cry 2/Dead Rising/Left 4 Dead.

It's not a thing for me this year, and if they don't fix the PC version, never, but next year hopefully.

There's an embargo on Resistance 3 that goes beyond the release date? I didn't think that was possible.

EDIT: Heavy handed tutorial sequence and Patrick compares the game to Valve's games? Poor soul.

Dead Island looks like some good fun. Like a combination of Borderlands with the melee combat on Condemned, with per-limb damage.

Too bad the melee combat is not as good as Condemned. In Dead Island it feels like you're hitting packs of butter.

This roaring, squealing spider thing is weirding me out. Don't real life spiders not make any noise at all? I feel like it would be creepier if it were silent, beyond footsteps and goo spraying of course

Monsters always have to make noise, it's the rule. I do wonder whether silence could be used to enhance the intensity of the experience. I also wonder if anyone's even experimented with that. It's pretty obvious that it would be easy to do wrong and make the scenario just feel unfinished.

Oh, also, this QL finally got me interested in R3 for some reason even though I've seen most of the footage that has been released so far.

Dead Island look gross but kind of fun. I'm going to wait for them to patch it up and a sale before I check it out.

Resistance 3 looks interesting, but that's going to be a rent just to make sure. I will not be fooled a third time!

I think heavy breathing could be a good alternative.

But wouldn't that be just as weird coming from a giant spider as screeching and roaring is? I agree heavy breathing for a more humanoid enemy type could work. For example, Regenerators in RE4 (the best game).

Uhhh no, the impact of hitting zombies with blunt weapons is great. Combat is way better than condemned.

Probably! :lol I was referring more to the idea of a mostly silent monster, rather than the specific spider example. Insomniac's monster designers obviously have a back door, in that it's not a spider, it's an alien creature called a Widowmaker, that just so happens to be similar to Earth spiders. :p

Thank to all above :)

I have been playing it already (thanks to an early Euro release), and is seems more fun than everything they showed today.

I wonder why they chose not to do it as part of this package?

Is Giant Bomb ignoring Driver: San Fran?

:/

It is arguably the best game of the week, and yet nothing.

Edit: Beaten.

You know what? I take it back. A giant spider just breathing heavily would be the best thing.

Wow, amazing to think a day has come that I would purchase a driver game over an insomniac game...

I think I am sold on Dead Island. Dodge mechanic gets me excited alone lol.

Does it control like Mount & Blade on PC or something?

Man, was I he only person who thought that the coma thing was awesome? Maybe it was hearing it on Idle Thumbs that piqued my interest, but come on! I always love it when video games to crazy stuff like this!

Is it just me or do the weapons in resistance 3 lack some omph? They seem to feel like toys. The lighting is nice, but it looks very soft.

And Brad just made me feel good about my Dead Island preorder. Game looks terrific.

I was also very intrigued by the concept. The demo completely unsold me on the game. The handling doesn't feel good to me and the demo didn't compel me enough to learn it.

Wow at that Dead Island Quick Look. I generally want to kill myself in the ass any time I even hear the word zombie and I could not have been less interested in this game, but that melee combat looks amazing.

Let me tell you right now that the game proper is really, really fun. I chanced a pickup without trying the demo and I am well satisfied.

Just asking...bombcast this week? I didn't see one posted but hell they did one last week and I thought there was laes chance then.

Should be one tonight.

I'm almost completely turned around on R3, the new engine and lighting looks phenomenal, just really impressive and seems to be much more in line with FoM in gameplay.

That analog control scheme that Brad was playing around with looked disturbingly fun. Dead Island looks like it could be a sleeper. I just hope it doesn't feel too grindy.

Pfft, you guys couldn't be more wrong. Dead Island looks like it will be a boring first-person melee game within five minutes. And could that beautiful, tropical island have any worse-looking vegetation? Lemme guess: the plants got infected too?

Resistance 3 is fantastic, and I was totally skeptical. Didn't even decide to buy it until like 4 hours ago.

They couldn't be more wrong about how a game looks to them?

The QL got me interested.
