The Halo 3 Beta Thread

ie banned from playing with the person that left the feedback ever again. I wouldn't call that useless.

unfortunately it doesn't necessarily ban you from playing with that person. it just tries to sometimes, which is why i'd said that it wasn't particularly useful.

Ugh - speaking of voice chat - I absolutely hate people that don't use a mic when playing Ranked games, no matter what game it is - and when we lose thanks to the ZERO communication in the game, they're so quick to leave the game, as if it's the rest of the team's fault...

Partied up with a random team in Team Slayer, we won some games, asked every now and then if anyone had a mic, no one answered... dead silence the entire time... till the last two games where we played against people who were obviously using teamwork... we didn't lose badly, but the point is we lost because no one warned or looked out for each other...

Really annoying... only Ramirez just came online awhile ago, no one else on my friend's list was on too...

Oh well, despite being so busy the last couple of days, I made Captain tonight... woooooo!

funny that more people avoided you than me... actually... it's funny that no one avoided me do to my ... ahem... overuse of the mic ;)

Yea I do still have 5 stars, don't really get that.

I also call for a much improved boot feature in Halo 3...

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo3.aspx?gameid=4530778&player=DaAnswer3

I don't care that I lost, he just made the match miserable and it went on alot longer than it should have had he not been a douche. He betrayed me 3 times and had countless suicides, yet I was never given the option to boot him? I know it's a beta, but Halo 2 had this problem as well. I say as soon as a guy betrays or suicides more than once within an minute or so the team should all be given a chance to vote him out or forgive him or something.

Hm. I guess they don't go down.

My % postive feedback is down to about 70, so I was expecting to lose stars, but I guess I don't have to worry about it.

You get more star power if the people who give you pos rep have lots of it themselves. Get enough, and you can run right through a turtle.

Maybe that's the reason why you have to wait so long in matchmaking. :P

No offense, but the few times I've played on your team in H2, you've been a colossal dick. :P The team usually burst out laughing after you left because of the uncontrolled screaming and anger. :lol

On CS you weren't that way, though.

Just checked...I still have 90% positive even though I've played a shitload since I got those 2 only negative reviews (one mistaken identity for "bad language" when I didn't even have a mic on...LP needs to let you identify the players who are talking). XBL rep = fuzzy math.

High Ground has become annoying now against random strangers, at least during Double Team and Team Slayer. I've encountered groups that only acquire the Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher and Shotgun, and then proceed to do nothing else but camp at the beach. No initiative to attack at all: just plain campin'.

Where's the fun in that?

Bah! The system is flawed for sure, because anyone who has played with me knows I barely talk, and I never tell someone to pick up their game or anything like that, meh.

Stop owning doods man! Jesus Christ! :lol

On that note, I watched the BTB you have on your fileshare earlier. That was some ridiculous Warthog usage and all around great playing. LOL at Dopey with the Banshee. :lol

I'm the same, if there isn't anyone I know in the server, I don't even bother pluging my mic in.

LoL, I wish the audio got saved as well, I was just trying to blow up their Banshee, and HG starts yelling "They're pouring out over the hill" *massacre ensues* :lol

I think the AR/melee thing that I constantly complain about is down to lag, which most people previously thought.

Why? I've discovered that my usual AR fire and melee combo works fine...when the other guy doesn't melee. In other words when it comes to lag, I get the short end of the stick across all game types literally all the time regardless of the timing of the other player's melee.

It sucks that I know I strike first --I can see it and hear it-- yet I get no result. Not much I can do about it really. I'm on a 2 meg connection which I realize isn't like being on a 2 meg connection in Counter Strike's heyday, but should still be sufficient. This game is really fun but the frustration caused by knowing that you beat the other guy and got nothing for it is immense and I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with it (I'm sure you're all getting weepy-eyed).

On the plus side, I've gotten really good at launching the melee attack early and from the right distance. So if this gets fixed, watch out! :p

What is the feedback for? Just curious. If its trash talking that'd be humorous. Otherwise I know sometimes when my teammates don't talk its very frustrating, although I've never left bad feedback for them. Who knows.

I'm really tired of these dickheads who kill you for taking the sniper rifle. It was funny the first time... no it wasn't. It was always awful.

Yeah, I was like wtf at that part. They just kept jumping down from the right hill and lining up to get shot. It was basically like "The lemming: Nature's retard" clip from Robot Chicken. :lol

This thread (all 296 pages of it) have been quite useful for us as we monitor the Beta. In light of that, I was wondering if I might tap you guys for some additional feedback, given that many of you have been extremely active in the Beta. The following was posted on our b.net forums, but I figure I'll put it up here too, for your consideration:
I've been experimenting with both options from day 1, but mostly have it set to PTT

Since I've yet to be in a situation where I needed to communicate with the team, but didn't have time to press the d-pad.. PTT isn't as annoying to me as I thought it would be, so I can deal with it if it does end up saving bandwidth.

I also like the practicality of having the prox chat for things like a warthog/mongoose leaving me and driving away... Or telling the sniper close to me some target locations, while not having everyone on the team spread out on other parts of the map wonder if I'm talking to them. While saving team-wide broadcasts for things like: "They're swarming the base! Get back here!" So in that regard, I almost prefer having the PTT.

I had 40% for quitting, which is odd because I've only willingly quit twice and those were both in BTB with massive lag, any other time it's been the black screen and I get booted back to the lobby after waiting. 40% more percent was for unsportsporting, and 15% for aggressive.

0 for trash talk, language, etc. :P

edit: I'm a dummy, I forgot that this all of my Live life, not just the Beta, I used to quit all the time in Gears due to lagfests, so those are probably warranted.

:lol I was just going to say that its for the life not just the beta.

Am I the only one that doesn't have to push to talk? I can communicate with the entire team still, without touching a thing.
There's a toggle option.

You can choose to do the PTT (default) or you can change it to normal team/party broadcast where you just talk without pressing anything and everyone hears you. Perhaps you just changed it to the latter and forgot?

I use the party/team setting regularly and I think I have a better time in Halo 3 than I did in Halo 2 because of it. Of course this means I appreciate not having the other team talking in ranked play as well.

It seems like the setting doesn't stick in the beta though. I have to make sure to go in and change it every session. A similar bother is the matchmaking settings like good connection and similar level don't stick between games, I have to jump in between each match to reset it to my choice.

Was playing 2 vs 4 Terrorities (which became Slayer, FYI) at Valhalla.

The team proceeded to camp in the middle with the Warthog, Laser, Sniper Rifle, chain gun, and all the Battle Rifle spawns.

One on one they were always killed, but they double teamed, ran away and called for help, or sniped from long range.

I repeat: the Warthog need to be toned down. It's really fun to drive around and tear up shit, but I got stuck twice and didn't so much as slow down. The turret is just nasty and you can circle the base and the other team will still spawn right there, falling to a hail of bullets.

And yeah, you can grab the pod or the trip, but they aren't that difficult to avoid, and a plasma stick should at the very least, take care of the occupants. Especially when you consider that at that close proximity on foot, you're toast, so why not in the hog?

I think they're main reason behind plasmas not killing the people inside is probably because it's so easy to stick the thing in the first place.

There are plenty of ways to stop a 'hog rampage on Valhalla.
Power Drainer
Mine
Laser
Missile pod
Bruteshot
Sniper
Plasma Pistol (charged)
Banshee (if available)

Or just play as an actual team and rain punishment upon it 'till it comes to a firey screeching halt. The only time it's really overpowered is if you try to take it out by yourself.

That said, I personally like to flip it over with a human grenade and just wail on the occupants with grenades/gunfire. :lol

Snipe the gunner and then ambush the hog. It is BRILLIANT to see them scared after their gunner goes down and their radar goes off.

Yeah, I was in the hog. And yeah, I got stopped. But not before racking up a number of really easy, no skill kills. Add in some players that aren't experienced, a short-handed scenario, or even a 4 on 4 slayer match where your team controls a good amount of the power weapons and the hog can be nearly indestructible. It really shouldn't be able to take three direct hits with grenades and a fair amount of AR fire and keep going.

I get what you mean, but even if a team gets every weapon on that list, there's still good old teamwork.

Every time I've seen a 'Hog go on a rampage it's because it's taking out the opposing team one or two at a time. 4-6 ARs + grenades and the 'Hog's occupants are dead men. All it takes is one person on the team be the strategist.

Plus you know... you can still jack vehicles and stuff...

Constant fire with BR's or AR's and the gunner is toast.

So, nobody else gets into any games where the Warthog just goes on a tear, ripping around the map, filling people full of holes in a manic spree? I see it pretty frequently.

I've been on the giving end, but not on the receiving. I don't even really fear people on warthogs, since there's so many ways to take them out, and it usually brings the whole team together and we quickly take it out.

One person really shouldn't stand much of a chance against a warthog, if they're out on their own with just the AR, that's their problem

people who use the warthogs are dumb...Too easy for me to stick them with a spike grenade

Where are there spike grenades on valhalla?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the mongoose, the ATV?

Well, yeah, when you have a coordinated team, they are much easier to deal with.

I'm just saying that if you stick a plasma to a hog, it should at least slow down a hair. Maybe fart out a plume of smoke or something. Anything. As it is now, there is no effect. None. It's a wasted grenade. Which is lame.
