The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Would releasing the Beta in the marketplace make the people like myself who payed 60 dollars for a first party Microsoft game angry?

Sure...

but ill be angryer if i have to wait till tomorow.

OMG, just got done playing my first game on High Ground. It was just standard slayer, but so awesome. Favorite moment from that match, some dude was flying through the front gate in a mongoose right at me. So I threw a grenade a few feet in front of him-it blew him and the mongoose into the air crazy barrel roll style. While he was spinning in the air, I shot him in the face with the assault rifle, killing him. It was a thing of beauty.

some of those posts on the Official boards are unreal, what's scary is most of them are likely very real, guess its to be expected.... Halo has such following to some it really is everything to them, I have a similar attachment to my Football Club.

Was Frankie expecting this not to work? Is that why he was handing out invites on Neogaf; to try and lessen the backlash? Pre-Damage Control.

There are a lot of explanations. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean it's a simple fix.

For example, it could have taken a few hours to even determine what the problem was.

Crackdown might be f'd up - they might have screwed up the programming required to enable the "Download Halo 3" button. If it is, they may need to actually contact Real Time Worlds to ask them to fix it and get them a new build for a title update. Then they need to fast-track the certification process to get it on the XBL servers.

If it's something on the Xbox Live side of things, who knows how critical it actually is? Could be something simple - or could be they messed up the whole process of enabling Crackdown to launch Halo 3 beta download.

So yeah... no one knows, but if it was an easy fix, it'd have been fixed already.

I had this horrible thought that RTW's coding or some such might be to blame as well. Which is why, you know, they should have tested this before today (maybe they had and it worked, in that case likely not RTW fault).

Lol @ at that guy:lol.

EDIT UPDATE - 12:46 p.m. EST For friend requests hit up FlashFlashRev and the latest we are still seeing is:Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the multiplayer beta of Halo 3 will debut to audiences worldwide via Xbox LIVE on May 16 at 10pm EST and run through to June 7 at 4:59pm EST.

WTF?!?!!!?!?

I think Mr. Frankie is an awesome guy especially on GAF...

...but I find it a little ironic or maybe a slap in the face that he's always posting in the H3 threads and even in this very one with information for us and just chatting in general...

..and then the shit hits the fan and he bails out and is nowhere to be found.

So I just got home from school a few minutes ago and noticed the Beta isn't up yet, but the thread grew 40 pages since I left.

I obviously can't read through all this, could someone give me a quick summary as to what's going on? Thanks in advance.

Stinkles was on not 20 minutes ago, and Luke a half hour ago. What's the matter fellas?

are you guys really suprised?
anything that is given an exact time on xbl gets delayed

remember the whole prey thing? how we had to wait like two extra weeks and everyone was going crazy

I think he's probably a little busy hammering out angry emails to MS right now

WTF man. It's been almost 5 hours since this was suppose to go down and still no PR? I have to go to work in about 30minutes and I was hoping to play at least one game. Now i'm just hoping I can start the download before I leave. They should at least give us an extra day or something with the beta to compensate for this lag time, especially for those people who did not sleep, woke up early, or ditched because of how dedicated they are.

I'm just bitching because my gamesave for crackdown was erased this morning and I sure as hell don't feel like starting over.

10pm EST would be dandy. I have to work 2-9pm. But still doesn't help that I stayed up late and set my alarm nice and early for this.

Crackdown users don't have access to the Beta and there is no official ETA.

Heres my idea.

Update Crackdown. Make it so when Crackdown starts it gives you a message that says "download Halo 3 beta: Yes No" Press Yes. It sends you to where the other people would go to download that did not use crackdown. Seems simple enough.

looks like its going up at 10pm EST tonight.

If they just release it on Xbox live...

1) It will probably crash

2) I'll be happy to actually be playing

but
3) They will have basically conned many many many many thousands of people out of 60 bucks.

That really isn't as simple as you think.

It's easy to chuckle at those fools, when you are already in the beta.

Must be nice.
No, see I don't chuckle at you guys, just the bratty 12-year-olds. Besides, I didn't get in until Sunday, but you didn't see me talking about my allowance or threatening suicide, did you?

Bolded where your logic fails. Updating Crackdown means f'ing contacting the developer, asking them to add some custom code to Crackdown (new user interface!), building, testing, and submitting to the XBL team, which has to go through certification and then issuing the title update.

Might as well fix the existing problem using the existing user interface... but still means all of the above process has to be done.
