The Halo 3 Beta Thread

One small complaint: Some of the GUI icons are placed a little too close to the edge of the screen. Looks fine on an LCD/Plasma screen, but the radar has a habit of bleeding off the edge of my CRT 16:9 set. I didn't have to play around with screen geometry for any of my other 360 games..

Ughhh, I have to keep doing that temporary fix to play the beta...which means watching that painfully long Crackdown intro.

If anyone is having problems with the beta... go to the dashboard then to memory and delete any saved videos (Halo 3 saved videos) you have. It works.

IIRC, there are seven unskippable screens through to the title screen. It is literally absurd.
 
oh man, i wish this thing would launch from the dashboard and just check to see if crackdown is in rather than making us load crackdown to play.
 
Just played Valhalla for the first time. It looks so much better when actually playing it for some reason - that pretty much settles the graphics debate for me.

Oh, and placing tripmines in the mancannons works great... I don't think that many people realize what they are :lol

Solution to the Game OVER: just wait at the game over screen for a couple minutes and it will try to connect you to a party, it will either fail or succeed. if it fails, just back out and you are good!

Oh well, great to see you guys finally in, I took quick look at my friends list, and it looked insane, with 90% of the people playing Halo 3 Beta!!!

Can anyone tell me roughly how long ago the Beta went up, or how long ago the thread hit 10,000 posts? I missed both moments, and I'd like to know...

And BTW, awesome that the Beta got extended by 5 days - that's some sweet compensation right there... cool...

Gonna head back to bed for atleast an hour though, because I am STILL f'ing tired... :(

Been playing and its cool. Kinda tired of the same two maps always popping up though. Played King of the Hill only once out of like 30 matches

I am only 50% pleased this thread is so long.

Remember folks that like Halo 2, the matchmaking in Halo 3 gets better, smoother, quicker and faster the longer you play - as it builds up a better networking history. And I can't stress this one enough - if you are having real trouble finding games, look at the Networking FAQ on www.bungie.net - the info there applies to any Live game, but is especially pertinent to H3.

Make sure your NAT type is set to Open (or anything but Strict, really)
 
Now I'm getting DC'd from games constantly. Damnit, why does this game have to be so awesome! I cannot just leave it alone and be in peace!

Finally led my team in kills. Was a proud moment. GAF games > random matches.

No, I got it in Rumble a bit ago, it was a shotty/sniper match, pretty fun, and it looks much better when actually playing it than in videos for some reason (at least for me).

You mother Fracker! lol you went 21-1 in that game too! I kept laughing because every time I thought I had a clear kill; *swish* sniper round cruises by my head and on to my target:lol
 
Got it started before i left for work this morning, thought id have to turn it off and continue this evening. Nope!
20 minutes and it was done :) So now i just have to wait 9 hours till i can play!
 
So after the initial "Wow this is awesome" phase, with the exception of the current state of the matchmaking(poor servers :() this is the best shooter I've played on a console, for sure.

I cannot wait for the game. The fact that its coming in september... wow. September is close. Oh so very close.

I was hoping there would be a way for H3 to check if it's not open and warn the user, and of course provide text link to a Xbox Live Guide / FAQ letting people know how to fix the issue.

Also, THANK YOU BUNGIE for providing the option to search for good connection games in match making. Such a simple option yet it's the first time I've seen a 360 game have it.
 
once i got my download online been a breeze... i played a bit of rumble pit and it was smooth... i love the interface (the globe in the background is sweet) and i wish gears of war had the same party system... i would definitely play that game more if it did... shit... the party system is just better period... it's just non stop playing until you just feel like leaving the party... lost planet could have definitely used it.

party system for shooters

virtual arcade for fighters


these new systems have just proven to be better for these types of genre's

matchmaking is better for sports.

I'm a Lieutenant, and I've seen a lot of others popping up today. It's fairly common now, I think. You only need 100 rp.
 
This game rules. It's got this Halo 1 kinda feeling going but it just seems way more fun than Halo 2 ever did. Despite the kinda quirky matchmaking stuff (the weird downloading and the ton of loading, but I know it's a beta so all is forgiven) it rules, a lot. I'm really glad I didn't skip work to play it though!
