The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Wow that's beautiful.

None of the highjackings are autokills, right? I could have sworn I jacked a Warthog gunner that instant killed him. Was quite funny being driven around for a short bit before they realized it.

Oh and Host Migration has booted me everytime since maybe Saturday. Worked fine before then. Changed routers though, so that might possibly concievably have something to do with it.

Routers have bigtime to do with recovering from host migrations. The two best ways to make sure you have fast matchmaking & a better host migration experience are:
1) Make sure you have an "Open" nat type in the dashboard xbox live diagnostic test
2) If possible, use one of the Routers reccomended at Xbox.com, as they have all been tested for live compatibility.

Honestly, I think everytime I tried ripping someone out of a warthog I ended up dead. Since it just throws the other person off and doesn't damage them, and it takes you a bit longer to get off afterward, it sorta puts you at a disadvantage. Then again, I only remember doing it like twice so far in the beta :P

Host migration never works for me, either. The worst part is that you know it's not going to work, so you just have to sit there for 5 minutes while it struggles and does absolutely nothing. It happened just now in btb, and instead of kicking me out to a solo party like it normally does, it went to a screen where it looked like everyone from the game was in the same party, and it had the countdown for the next game

Also, I get the black screen constantly after I die in BTB, sometimes for as long as 10 seconds, and the lag is ridiculous

I don't think so... I even waited for someone to get really high in the Banshee (he was trying to shake me off or something lol) before kicking them out and the fall didn't kill him. :(

That may possibly have something to do with it, but I'm pretty sure this is an issue on Bungie's end in their netcode or something. My NAT is set to open and I have one of the most common routers and cable modem (Linksys WRT54G and Motorola Surfboard SB5120). And when this happened in Halo 2 (blue screens), it's always worked for me.

Wait a second... now you can pick when to kick them out? Awesome!

When hijacking a Warthog driver, be sure to turn around immediately, so he doesn't assassinate you. Melee quickly and fire headshots. Dead instantly. :)

or maybe it was the lag, I dunno, but I was pretty high. By "wait" I meant it waited. I was holding down RB, though...gotta try it out later.

:lol Nice video, True. Reminds me of today when I got killed by a hurling Warthog. I saw it coming too and I was trying to doge it to no avail.

I'm really starting to hate grenades. There are just too many of them on the maps, you start with a couple and every battle is grenade spamming, every other kill you get ends up getting you from beyond the grave. Plus each time you die, you drop them, only adding to the spam. Getting a grenade should be a more special occurance. I throw grenades without thinking, I just assume I have them, and I always do.

It's just too much and getting stupid. I can't be the only one.

So...I hitched a ride in the passenger seat of an enemy vehicle with their driver and gunner. I proceed to throw about 15 punches to the drivers face with my left hand, but his health is not phased at all

is this by design :|

Was the same way in Halo 2. Weird and confusing cause it would always make the melee sound, yet do no damage....

Warthog, right? It doesn't hurt them.

It's funny seeing the Spartan swing at the driver in a Mongoose.

In High Ground that's common.

I like it better with two. It leaves a person to be more strategic.

lol I think that was me. I was driving with a teamate in the gun..right in the middle of the map this guy jumps in the passenger seat and starts to melee. i think i got it and killed him/you :D

I'm not sure if anybody ever talks about it, but the ONE THING I really miss from Halo 1, was the fact that the jeeps never blew up, allowing for those badass Halo jumps to see how high you can send them flying. I had always imagined how awsome it would be to do that online with 16 people but Halo 2 didn't allow it either. I think it would be cool if there were a mode to select vehicles as undestructible, so people can have fun with the physics.

Did people forget about the bad ass Halo jumps? http://youtube.com/watch?v=rOMpG91Quog

EDIT: lol yep somebody already mentioned it, that was a real cool video. Bring back the Warthog Jumps!!

You'll be happy to know that indestructible vehicles is now a selectable option in Halo 3 multiplayer :)

Hard to see but it's the choice highlighted in orange.

Somehow my girlfriend was lucky enough to receive a friends and family code but didn't find it until last night. I could have been playing two weeks ago :'(

Confess, what did you make her do?

Me too. I always get stuck and/or killed from the grave. It sucks. :(

I thought with more grenades I was playing more like I was in Halo 1 were you had to prepare when you killed someone because you knew that grenade was coming and had to position yourself accordingly.

I thought you shoved a rocket up my butthole. Don't know about grenades, probably had a couple bounce up the old bungshoot too. You bastard. :)

Something about the sounds now from those rockets that just make it so satifsying when you blindside someone with a rocket. Last night I tried saving a video but someone was near the Spartan Laser spawn on High Ground and facing down towards the back of the base. He was standing on the ledge and I had a charged plasma pistol and did the ol' shot and melee. Don't know if he got grenaded at the same time or something but he flew across the map to the back of the base.

Anyone know why you can't save films from time to time after a match?

Yeah, when the first rocket swooshed past my head, I knew I was screwed, but it did sound pretty cool.

Don't know about the videos. Isn't there a limit to how many you can save or is that just the number you can upload to your File Share?

Thats just how much you can upload to your file share. 6 files max up to 25mb I believe. Its a shame I had some keepers last night.

There are too many grenades, it's rediculous. I played last night at HIgh Ground and all I did was get grenaded.

So Bungie should listen to the QQ'ers about wanting 4 grenades back? :)

Their is a reason you can only carry 2 of each type...

Goldman Sachs is predicting 4.2m copies of Halo 3 sold in the first five days.

While Halo 3 is releasing right at the end of Microsoft's first fiscal 2008 quarter (which runs from July through September), Goldman-Sach's industry watchers are expecting the game to contribute about $170 million in revenue for the quarter, with more than 4.2 million copies shipped into the retail channel. That's nearly one copy for every three Xbox 360s in the world, going by the analysts' projections of an installed user base of 13.2 million by September.

Maybe deserves its own thread, thought I'd toss it in here.

Even then it's bad. There are too many grenade spawns on High Ground. If they removed a couple of the spawns, it'd be a lot better.

I like grenades and all you non grenade people should be killed. Preferably in a grenade blast of some sort.

I bet you're one of those guys who automatically runs away chucking six grenades at me if I start shooting you.

Oh yeah, well I bet your one of those guys that drives around in the Warthog the entire match! ;)

I am in love with the SMG. It is a dangerous affair, I'll admit, but I can't help but pick it up, to feel the cold metal through my gloved fingers, to spray out a torrent of bullets, to melee and grenade like a punch drunk fool. O, SMG, how I love thee even as we fall to the ground under a hail of Carbine fire. I'll be back soon to claim you again.

Grenades destroy my K/D ratio.. For every kill I get with a gun I get blown away right afterwards.. WTF?

It's like throwing a grenade before the fight is a must for any confrontation.. Seriously, there are WAY too many grenades.

Actually, I never drove around in the warthog. I rode in the back and gunned. But I don't do that anymore. I usually either snipe or fight close-mid range. And I die so many times from guys who just throw every grenade they have in hopes of killing me. It's like their right trigger is broken and they can only toss grenades to survive.

Yeah, if I'm getting peppered and I know it's a lost cause, I'm chucking every grenade I have in hopes that one of them will save me from death, or at least take you with me. And if I get the drop on someone, I'm usually going to try to grab their attention with a nade first. Steal a lot of kills that way.

Another gripe is the fact that the majority of Americans I play against seem to be racist against me and my race; British.

Yeah, I do hear a lot of UK hate on Xbox Live. You have that and a really slag connection. Double whammy.

What is stupid is when people throw a grenade when they are even/ahead in the damage race, and then die because they lost a second of firing their weapon. I understand the urge to get a grenade off before you die, but you can tell when your shields drop in comparison to your target. Using this information one can make an educated decision as to keep firing or toss the grenade.

I should mention I don't throw grenades very much. I never played Halo 2 multiplayer, so it's taking a while to get used to throwing grenades accurately and often.

I don't see how that's being cheap or anything... grenades are in the game and meant to be used in that way.

weakening someone with a grenade first is the smart thing to do. and when you're gonna die it's also smart to take the enemy down with you. that's why there's even a medal for it now.

I have to agree to some extent with the people saying that there a bit too many grenades...isn't a grenade supposed to be some special trick? I never seem to run out of them!

I say: less grenades spawns, but a little more power to the grenades.
